Can't believe they went through the trouble of creating a machine that looks so ridiculous.
1. Hot surface - burn issues - fire hazard 2. Laminators are already a thing and work perfectly to foil (even though I don't have one) - and are cheap and safe 3. Foiling can be done w/double-stick tape and/or double-stick foam 4. Another tool that takes up space and electricity in the craft area
I can't believe they invested in inventing and distributing something that looks so useless?!?!

I don't know...I think it looks pretty cool! It's awesome because you can use your dies and foil those impressions. It also makes an impression into the paper which makes it look more letterpressed. But then, I'm a sucker for foiling and letterpress!

Another one? I own the GoPress & Foil that looks just like it. Let’s just say I am *not* impressed. The laminator/minc works better in my opinion.
Plus, Crafters Companion just debuted another almost identical product. All of those foiling platforms are expensive, plus you have to have a compatible die cutting machine to use in conjunction with each of them.

I can't remember if this machine has to have the toner on the die cut to laminate. That would be the only reason I would like this machine. Also, you can use other die cut machines with this machine. I saw it (crafter's companion version) on HSN and it looked cool. Not in the market for it though.

At first, I thought, okay, I like it. Then I watched the video. I had this vision of me forgetting the die was hot, picking up the hot die with my fingers and ending up in the ER with third-degree burns. I'm a no. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

I like the look of foiling but I just don’t want to invest that kind of money in something I probably wouldn’t use all that often. I’m probably better off not buying an accident waiting to happen, as it would be only a matter of time before I singed my hand on that plate.

@zingermack THANK YOU for saying this. I just watched a video on it and couldn’t believe how stupid this machine is! Glad I’m not the only one who thinks so.

I am just surprised that they keep coming out with these. Anna Griffin came out with one that sold on HSN a few years ago, or at least a year ago. It did not do well. It got bad reviews, and HSN pulled the reviews off the site. I love Anna Griffin and her designs, but this machine did not look easy then, and the new ones still do not.

@zingermack THANK YOU for saying this. I just watched a video on it and couldn’t believe how stupid this machine is! Glad I’m not the only one who thinks so. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE new tools!!! But not when they're designed worse than the alternative (a laminator) and take up a lot of space to do something we already know how to do. I don't get it. I was so excited to see a video about a new tool. But as it went on, I kept getting more and more dismayed. You're going to make an open hot plate (I'm sure people w/cats will love that)? NO. The die is going to be hot? No. It only foils? NO! I wish someone would invent a tool that would print, foil, cut, emboss in-one ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) THAT I would buy!! I need less stuff on my table taking up room, not more!

It is about a foiling machine.
I think I'm going to experiment w/cuttlebug plate, my dies, and an iron on low. Will report back. Will also try debossing since I have a debossing mat for my cuttlebug.

You have to pull the hot plate with the hot die, foil, cardstock sandwich and run it through a die cutting machine?
I'm pretty sure if definitely burn myself.
In only watched parts of the vid. Did she say exactly what temperature the plate heats to?

Also, if you don't own a lot of fancy dies, then it is worthless. It is just another way of making you also invest in dies. Not something I will buy.

I'd be very cautious about the fire risk. I'll be skipping this machine.

I have this machine, and I love it. First off...you can get it at Hobby Lobby, and use your coupon, which makes the price much less than $120.
Secondly, it doesn't get hot enough to really burn anything. I would say just be careful. I think the stove provides a much bigger burn hazard than this machine does.
That said, I have a lot of dies that just got more versatile for me. I do love the letterpress look....its so professional and clean.
I also have the toner sheet stuff and a cheap laminator, but quite frankly, I think it is messy, and limiting. It provides a different look, and I believe that there is room on the market for both machines. They really are different.

Spellbinders - the Glimmer Hot Foil System. Also, if you don't own a lot of fancy dies, then it is worthless. It is just another way of making you also invest in dies. Not something I will buy. Yup, I would definitely need to buy a bunch of new glimmer plates to get any value from this thing. And that's where they're going to make their money. I can see the draw of the debossed letterpress foil look. The minc process was disappointing to me in that way - I love the look of proper letterpressed foil cards. It's very elegant. But watching Justine use it, I know I would have a lot of trouble getting that thing to my die cutter without shifting the foil and cardstock under the plate. Nothing would be lined up as precisely as I would want. I would get pretty frustrated with not being able to see where my die was or being able to secure the stack in any way. And I don't care that much about foiling to want to buy another machine and a bunch more dies to make it happen.

I really want the Gemini brand one but I don't even use my minc. I have to stop buying all these gadgets.

I really want the Gemini brand one but I don't even use my minc. I have to stop buying all these gadgets. Me too. I have so many rolls of the Minc foil too. I asked if the new Gemini Foil machine would work with this foil. I was told that it was a different kind of foil. Might have been tempted if I could have used what I already had in the house. I can’t even remember the last time I foiled something.

I watched Jennifer McGuire use it but I know I wouldn’t invest in those special dies, and also it looked hard to line up stuff. I’m too klutzy to mess with any hot craft machine but the the results were quite nice.

I watched Jennifer McGuire use it but I know I wouldn’t invest in those special dies, and also it looked hard to line up stuff. I’m too klutzy to mess with any hot craft machine but the the results were quite nice. I watched JM's video about the Glimmer machine too, and as usual she made it look fairly easy to use and not so stupid. I noticed that she used it slightly differently to the way Justine demoed it. She used bigger pieces of cardstock to do the foiling and cut them down so she didn't have to worry about getting stuff positioned just right. I would have to do that. She also got the plates positioned on top before she hit the heating timer. But I'm really wary of her making stuff look easy because she is able to get everything - new foils, new plates, no problem. She shows using her normal dies but that's an optional extra for her because she can just get all the new Glimmer plates if she wants to. She did point out a circumstance where laminators don't work so well - adding layers of foil, or sending things through more than once - but that's not something I need to worry about. I still need to try out scor-tape foiling with the supplies I already have.
