I have often wondered what this house is like inside. Now I know. What do you think? I imagine Tom Hanks' "grown-up" Josh character in "Big" would love it. Iconic Estate (Scroll down for photos).

very cool place and would be lots of fun to live in!!
some stuff seems a bit dated and would struggle to pay $4.5 million to live next to a highway, but looks like those trees and landscaping would offer some privacy. look like a resort!!

I could work with this place! Not sure I would like being so close to a highway, but for the right price, I could deal.

It’s a little close the highway for my taste and you better be VERY comfortable with your significant other to use the master bath, but other than that I’d absolutely live there.

It's such an odd location for an "estate"; it doesn't fit the style/price range of the rest of the neighborhood at all. The side opposite the freeway backs up to the neighborhood elementary school (you can see the track in one of the overhead shots.) And all of this time I never knew it had a lagoon out front!

Not a fan of the location (though I guess that does make it convenient to get places fast) but what is up with all the area rugs? If you're gonna have that many rugs why not just get carpet

Why would you put a piano so close to all the moisture?

You certainly need a full time window washer on the payroll for that place.

It would be a fun place to have a big family. I don't love all the open space - I'd be hiding out in my room a lot for a bit of coziness, I think! But that's a personal thing. I do love the dining room with all the built-ins and seating for 12. That would make up for the lack of walls elsewhere!

Not for me. I'd feel like I was at the rec center, not home. It looks like a commerical building.

While I would love an indoor pool, I would not want it to be so openly accessed by the rest of the house. The smell of the chlorine would be awful.

exactly my thought first off, the outside didn't feel like a home.. rec center is more like it. The lagoon thing is cool, but all in all it didn't do much for me. BUT I always love a cool house posting!! Thanks!

I don't like it at all. That ginormous outdoor pool/lagoon is cool but stupid in Portland. And I really really hate indoor pools. Too much humidity and too much chlorine smell. The whole thing feels like a commercial space, not a residence.
It's just not for me.
ETA: Of course I want to go drive by it now because I am on 217 all the time and have never noticed that place lol.

I know the feeling, love seeing the inside of homes I've driven by for years, thanks for sharing one of yours! Not for me. I'd feel like I was at the rec center, not home. It looks like a commerical building.
This is what I was thinking. Fun place for a large, casual get together for sure! But I wouldn't want to live there. It looks commercial and dated. While I would love an indoor pool, I would not want it to be so openly accessed by the rest of the house. The smell of the chlorine would be awful. They might use a different chemical, I think it's called bromide. My PT center uses it and the smell doesn't bother me much, if at all. DH gets sick for 24 hours at most indoor pools that use chlorine (esp Lifetime!) but my PT pool works well for him even though it is in a small room and not as well ventilated. You know, in case you were considering the purchase otherwise

It seems to me if you are going to stage a property that expensive for real estate photographs, you would : - remove plastic trash cans from being front & center of master bedroom photos - actually make the beds; not just a lumpy attempt at throwing the covers up - put actual decorative linens on the beds and not basic pillowcases - not have the bare box springs showing in the master bedroom and remove the unsightly cardboard box sticking out from under the bed - what's with the weird row of potted plants out front? and is that a hose or a cord all strewn about the front entrance? - there's a spray bottle of insecticide or plant food next to the pool I'll stop now, but really?

OMG, we have some weird-ass homes on the market around here right now. This is a whole lot of look. It's a pretty sweet home gym, but other than that... I'll pass.

I couldn't live with an indoor pool in the main living area. If there was a toddler in the house, you couldn’t take your eyes off them for a second. Plus, the humidity would drive me nuts as well.

With all those rugs--my guess is that the owner made his/her money as a rug dealer.
Really, who puts Oriental rugs under exercise equipment?
It feels too much like a commercial building--a rec center or such with the pools and gym set up.

Not a fan either. Too close to a highway and it feels more "commercial" than "residential".

I saw all of that and thought--people REALLY DO live in this home--it is not just staged for the real estate listing. In the kitchen, I noticed the cook books were not neatly on the shelf. But, I agree--the simple bed linens do not match the opulence of the house...and I would have removed that box from under the bed. I think a bed skirt or something to hide the bed frame would be essential.
The outside photos were not made on the same day....That line of potted plants is not in one of the photos. Odd that the wheelbarrow is in the photos. You would think that would have been removed for the photo shoot.

Did they forget they live in Oregon? When is warm enough for that outdoor pool?

It is called a lagoon on the listing. That implied (to me) that it is not planned as a pool but as a "water feature."

I pretty much hate this whole thing. It looks like the first home you build in the Sims, before you get the hang of it all. Right down to the excess of Oriental rugs and potted plants with the boring plain beds in a cavernous space.
