Or is it too much? My sister's church does an angel tree for local children. Well I think they could be adults too, but not families as far as I know. Each angel is one person.
I don't go to church, I'm agnostic. But I do like to help people out so I asked my sister to pick an angel for me. I love to read and she saw one for a 14 yr old girl who wanted a Barnes and Noble gift card. Ok, perfect. However I want to do more. I was thinking of a small gift basket with the B&N card, a throw, a mug with hot chocolate kit and some chocolates. Maybe a small Starbucks card too. Do you think that would be ok, or stupid? Also I worry that if this child has a sibling who also has an angel on the tree, it might be more than they get. Would it be better to just give the gift card?
Thoughts?

I love it! They will feel special. ❤️ Your generosity.
Often they will offer a few things to choose from and I give each item.

I think you should go for it. Yes, one child might get more, but the other one can share the cocoa, chocolate and blanket. My guess is that if two siblings are on a tree, they are looking out for one another.

I think it sounds thoughtful and lovely.

The basket sounds lovely but I would skip the Starbucks card and just add more to the Barnes and noble card. Only reason is that you don't know whether this girl has good access to a Starbucks location but, presumably, she can get to barnes and noble or she wouldn't have asked for the card.

Go for it. I assume your local B&N has a Starbucks.

Many B&N stores have Starbucks inside. My kid is in their kid’s book club and gets a free cupcake on her birthday from there. I think it’s great that OP wants to give a better gift than what the child asked for. Throwing in the Starbucks card would make the trip to the book store more of a special outing, I think.

We've done an angel tree for years. There is not a single person who gives just one thing asked for, so maybe ask your sister what they do there. For instance, my last person asked for a winter coat and underwear. I added gloves, scarf, hat, socks and a robe. This year the person I got wanted pots and pans, I added other kitchen stuff. It was Whales Tale, they help young adults get into their own homes. I often take clues from the organization that the names come from as clues to what I gift. Bottom line, If I got someone who wanted a B&N card, I would most definitely add more items.

FYI- you can not use a Starbucks gift card at a Starbucks in Barnes and Noble Cafe.

Basket sounds awesome. Is there a suggested $ amount. Our church does them $20-$25, but specifically asks that you not go over the suggested amounts because of having siblings who might not understand why they received so much more.

Unless you have a very special and unique BN store, they just sell starbucks coffees, they are not an official mini starbucks like the ones in Target. It's why all their food options are different. The cafe WILL, however, take the Barnes and Noble card as payment.

Thanks everyone. The church picks people from the area for the tress and we have a Starbucks store plus Starbucks counters in grocery stores etc. It would be easier for her to get to Starbucks than a B&N (though that's not too far either, just not in our little town).
I will go ahead and do all that then. I'm so excited to do this.

Maybe add a booklight and if it requires batteries include those as well. I remember being at age and loved reading late into the night.

I don't mean to sound like a grinch, but our church has a suggested amt also, so as long as you can keep within the total. If you want to do something simple maybe a nice bookmarker or booklite to go with the gift card.

You can use a B&N GC online too.

That's what I am struggling with. DH's work had them out and they say $25-$40. But we picked up an adult, 2 kids, and a newborn. The adult asked for an XL t-shirt, with a pair of shoes as the backup option. You better believe he is getting both! The kid's gifts were normal. The newborn one asked for a video monitor, with a diaper bag with essentials as a backup. That one I plan on doing a stuffed diaper bag.

Just an FYI- I volunteered two years at the SA Angel Tree distribution center. If someone thought a gift was too much it would be split up and spread out to other kids that didn’t get as much or weren’t selected.

If someone thought a gift was too much it would be split up and spread out to other kids that didn’t get as much or weren’t selected. I helped found and worked for 15 years with our local program. We NEVER took things from a giver’s offering for another gift. We felt like that was dishonoring their intention.
