I'm the outlier who is selling mine! I just prefer a hand mixer and I never used the stand mixer much. But the things that I didn't think I needed but love now is my salad spinner. I’m just the opposite. I don’t think my hand mixer has seen the light of day since we moved six years ago, and before that I hadn’t used it for years at my old house either. I recently found it buried in the back of the appliance garage on my counter where I store all my cookie cutters and thought, “Huh. Didn’t even know that was in there!” These days my right shoulder is so jacked up that I would have a difficult time mixing anything stiff like cookie dough or anything that needs to be whipped for a long time with that arm, and bread dough would be completely out of the question. I wouldn’t be able to make much of anything anymore without a stand mixer.

I was terrified of pressure cookers thanks to my mother. I got one early last December, a Farberware one. We love it. Especially great since we live at just over 6,000 feet altitude.
You will love it! Get a pretty color. I've had mine about 14 years. I was going to get lavender to match my Corelle Shadow Iris dishes but it was discontinued before I was able to order it. I wanted a darker pink than the light pink so I said to heck with it, doesn't matter if it really matches, I'm going to get a color I love since it will be on the cabinet all the time.
Over the years, I've bought accessories for it, it now has 2 small bowls, 2 large bowls, the glass bowl and lids for all... and in addition to the beater, whisk and dough hook, I have two beaters with the scraper attachment. I FINALLY got the shredder last year, didn't really need it because I got a full size KA food processor as a gift 11 years ago but this one is easier to clean the the food processor AND has more sizes. It is the newest version, the version that also has the meat grinder cost a lot more and I couldn't see needing the grinder.
And yes, I sometimes have 4 bowls messed up when cooking a lot! Rolls in one (rising), one mashes the potatoes and a cake made in the other and icing in the last! DH loves it because of the wonderful things I make in it! He gets a kick out of I have it on low mixing the butter and flour/salt/bp/soda for biscuits in the morning while I'm doing other things, even walking out of the room!
My 5 qrt kitchenaid mixer in cobalt blue, who is almost 17 yrs old, is named Sir Mix A Lot. My new 6 qrt pro mixer, who is red, is named Scarlet Rose. Yes I name my mixers LOL I finally bit the bullet and got an immersion blender. LOVE it!!! Makes creaming soups a lot easier than using the back of a spoon to smooch everything I have the Raspberry one that the blade comes off for easy washing and has 2 speeds. I had inherited a cheap version of that but the blade didn't come off. It was ok but no big deal. I got the Raspberry one last year and WOW, that thing has power!
Speaking of blenders, I've always had one but never used them as much until I got my first KA one a few years ago. I only had a choice of white, red and black and got red because I didn't want "boring" white or black! . Couldn't stand it and got a raspberry regular blender with the larger jar. The red one is in the closet in case I need it! Well, nothing matches but raspberry matches the grape purple KA stand mixer, pink mini KA food processor better!
I was hesitant about the instant pot but I am a believer now! I use it every week. I have a light pink kitchen aid mixer I have the light pink handheld KitchenAid mixer and light pink mini KA Food Processor. Raspberry immersion AND raspberry jar blender. Oh and the old KA food processor in white that isn't used as much since I have the attachment for the mixer.

Something you thought you didn't need until you actually tried it and then we're won over? I got a Kindle for Christmas from my husband not long before he died. He and my son collaborated and picked it out. I didn't know just how much I would love it once I tried it!

Aren't they great? Even though I really only use mine for holiday baking these days, I still love it. I can get so much prep/cleaning/putting away done while it's doing it's thing.

He and my son collaborated and picked it out. I didn't know just how much I would love it once I tried it! I felt this way about my Kindle fire too. I was like I have a phone and I have a laptop, what could I possibly need a tablet for? Several years ago Amazon ran a special and the fire was $40. I decided I would try it and if I didn't like it, I would give to my nephew. And I love that thing! Magazines are my favorite part! But it is the perfect size for my crochet patterns. I take it in my bag to craft night each week. It is also the perfect Gizmo to use an online recipe while I'm cooking. It was worth every penny of the $40. My battery is starting to lose the charge quickly and I'm definitely going to buy another.

I love my KA stand mixer. It's worth every penny just to shred chicken.
To answer your question: I never thought I would spend so much on a vacuum cleaner. $400 was pushing it when we bought the Silver Surfer. When it needed replaced, DH insisted we go to the vacuum cleaner store. I wasn't paying that much for a vacuum cleaner. Almost $900 later, we walked out with a Miele C3. What sold me was the beater bar part attached to the handle. I loathed fighting my old vacuum cleaner on the stairs because of the wand/pipe thing. Often wondering why it wasn't made to attach to the handle. I love my Miele! She is light and easily maneuverable. The exhaust comes out the top of the machine, so no more hair balls flying across the floor when the vacuum is turned on. With 4 critters in the house, it is used every day. When the Fibromyalgia flares, the lightness and easy maneuverability enables me to keep after the animal fur.

For $80 more you should get the 6 qrt 600 series pro. Has the highest watt motor and larger capacity. It’s a little less if you get it at Costco and don’t mind getting red or black! I think they’re $269 until Dec 24th. I bought mine right before Thanksgiving when they were $249. I love it! Named the bigger red one Mixxie and the smaller white one Minnie, LOL. Now I just need to put some custom vinyl graphics on them to make them look like Mickey and Minnie! ETA: To answer your question, I felt that way about the Instant Pot too, wasn’t sure we’d really use it but we actually do. Same with the air fryer to a slightly lesser degree. I was going to mention something in the same vein. Not all of the same size mixers have the same watts so when you are going to spring for one make sure you get one that has some power. I think the Wal-Mart and Kohls one were on the low end. BB&B plus Williams Sonoma seem to have the more powertful wattages. My brother's wife never wanted a KA mixer and she makes cookies all the time. I was able to help my brother get a great deal on one through my husband's work a few years ago. Do you know she left it in the box for 2 years and once she opened it she was so surprised, kicking herself for letting it sit. She was so cute as she told me how fast she made cookie batter. I love mine and enjoy some of the attachments.

I'm the outlier who is selling mine! I just prefer a hand mixer and I never used the stand mixer much. But the things that I didn't think I needed but love now is my salad spinner. Haha, mrssmith - we are opposite! I love my stand mixer and would never get rid of it because I use it a lot. But I got rid of my salad spinner several years ago. I hated that thing! It took up a lot of space and I found I would rather just wash lettuce in a colander (that stacks with other kitchen things).
I want to replace my old non-KA (Hamilton Beach) stand mixer with a new Kitchen Aid one but I don't know when I'm going to break down and buy it (maybe after Christmas sales...). My old one technically still works, but it's slow (only 4 speeds) and has a place in the bottom of the bowl where the paddle doesn't reach well, so I have to stop it every few minutes and not just scape it down (which I would expect), but also scrape into the very bottom of the bowl and fold the batter from that section all the way in. So, yeah I want a KA - can't quite justify it yet though...but I can rationalize it!
As for what item I didn't think I needed until I got it was my Miele vacccuum cleaner. Like another pea ( MsKnit ) said, I never thought I would spend that much for a vaccuum, but after our 3rd mid-priced one broke and needed a new motor, DH & I decided to stop spending $200 on one that breaks every few years and needs a new motor that will cost more than it's worth to repair. So, we spent more than twice that on a red Miele (forget which model#), but it's been going strong for 21 years now and it made vaccuuming so much easier in so many ways.

I have an Artisan Design KA mixer - in metallic candy apple red. I may not use it much but it makes me happy just seeing it on the counter. I wanted one for a long time, but couldn’t decide on the color; the Empire Red just wasn’t doing it for me. The minute I saw the metallic red of this one I knew that’s the one I wanted. And it looks good in our kitchen.

Yeah, a computer. In the early ‘90s my daughter and I enrolled in college. She and my husband immediately said that we needed a word processor for papers and homework. I said they were nuts and that I had a perfectly good typewriter. They laughed and bought a computer with a word processing program. Obviously they were so right. I still get razzed about wanting to use my typewriter. They will never let me live it down.

I love mine, too. I put felt pads on the feet so I can slide into the corner when not in use, the easily pull, it out again. Interesting idea. Do you find it travels when you use it?

I don't use mine regularly but it gets a good workout during Christmas. I just used it this past weekend to make a huge batch of cookies. It's a great little work horse.
ETA: I've been using the meat grinder attachment more and more. I wouldn't mind owning the ice cream attachment some day. My machine is Empire Red.

I'm a bit of a spoiled girl (but ok I DO bake for a living!!) In my cake studio I own a black 4.5 qt tilt head, a black 5 qt pro lift bowl, and a tan 7 qt pro lift bowl. I also have a 20 qt Hobart that is older than dirt that sits on the floor. Upstairs in my home kitchen I do have one very pretty aqua blue 6qt that matches my pretty kitchen. Doesn't stop me from pausing in the store to look at them wistfully though!

(We also didn't have cable TV, a VCR, an answering machine, or a cordless phone, if that gives you an idea of my parents' aversion to home technology.) My senior AP English teacher assigned multiple rewrites of our term papers based on her idea that certainly everyone could easily edit and re-print. Nope, not me. I re-typed those 12 pages at least half a dozen times, and other essays and shorter papers as well. On the upside, when I left high school I could type like 150 WPM. 😂

I recently moved to a new town and a KitchenAid mixer was one of my first purchases. I did look around for a good deal and I think Macy’s had the best price. I know it is expensive for a mixer but I just love it. My daughter has my original one. I have already used it to make cookies and a plan to get it out probably again today sometime. I am definitely a believer. Another item that I think is well worth the price are AirPods. I gave my pair to my daughter but I hope to get myself another set. They are pretty darn awesome.
I have tried numerous hand mixers before and they seem to burn up trying to get through the dough. I don’t make anything that unusual but for some reason, the handmixers just don’t seem to be able to handle it.

Since you are all mixer owners, can I ask a question about the attachments? I have the hardest time getting my attachments on and off, they don't seem to want to budge. I end up getting batter all over myself just struggling to get the attachment off.
What am I doing wrong?

I am on my second KA, my first was a smaller white one that I just wore out from making bread. I have the lift head Imperial Grey (the bumpy texture one rather then shiny smooth) and I love it so much. Make sure you get the best motor you can afford, you will amaze yourself with how much you use it and you are going to want it to last!
My thing I never thought I would really use, but I use all the time are my cast iron skillets. When we got married we got some really nice Caphalon pans but my husband had a few cast iron pans he would use. After I finally tried them I was hooked and we donated the wedding pans and we just have two nice sauce pans that are not cast iron, the rest are all cast iron, including our wok.

Yes,the same. I'm not much of a baker or a cooker. Dh does most of the cooking. I do like to do a few treats and special things on the holidays. I didn't think I would use it all that much either. It was the last one the shelf at Costco with a rebate. I got it for just a little over $100. I Knew it was a deal. We use it A LOT! Even dh bakes now. lol! He said he's not a baker, lol! He made brownies, last week! I might have him do the cookies this year. lol!
We got a few attachments ; we use the meat grinder a lot too. He wants to learn pasta.
