My great grandma used to make it with powdered sugar and cinnamon.
And now I know what I'm making for dinner!

I pre mix, have a mixture in a pint canning jar at all times. Follow up question, how do you make the toast? Put the cinnamon sugar butter mixture on, then broil? Make toast in a toaster first then add the butter, etc? I’m off to google Pioneer Woman to see what she does that’s so special I use Land O Lakes tub butter, scoop up a bit on a butter knife and then make dabs all over the bread. I don't bother to make sure it is all spread evenly. Then I sprinkle on the cinnamon sugar mixture and toast in the toaster oven until the sugar mixture starts to get bubbly and caramelize but before it burns (which comes very quickly!). My exH's family toasted the bread first and while I wouldn't turn it down, I prefer the caramelize sugar and pockets of butter to sweet cinnamon bread.

They were domino sugar shakers and I googled it and there are only spirts figures ( hockey - baseball- etc ) not what I remember but I’m old so maybe those don’t exist anywhere in pictures

only use premixed if Mr. Penzey gifted you a jar in your order My mom made cinnamon toast for us in the 1960's by whipping butter and powdered sugar and cinnamon -like frosting. It melts into the toast and doesn't have the sugar grit.

I don’t eat this any longer, but when I used to make it, I mixed the two together ahead of time. If you don’t ensure a good mixing, you could end up with a bite of just cinnamon, and it is nasty by itself. You also wouldn’t like a bite of pure sugar.
I just threw away away the last batch that I had in my cupboard a few days ago. I used to use it when making a baked apple for my mom, which was usually requested two or three times a week. Mom had a huge sweet tooth.

If you add them separately, does the cinnamon get powdery or does it mix with the sugar anyway when you toast it? If the latter, it doesn’t matter. I’ve always done it mixed together first. Well...if you put on the right amount of butter, it all just sort of melts/dissolves!

I don't even premix, I just sprinkle some sugar on, then sprinkle some cinnamon. In the words of a cat-i do what I want.

I grew up putting on the cinnamon & sugar separately. I feel like I can control the ratios better...like piling on the sugar & then a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Over the years I've tried mixing the two & even bought the pre-mixed cinnamon & sugar, but I still prefer them separately.
