I was in it once or twice on the old board but not since.
And it was so fun to send (and especially receive them).
So today I went out and bought about 80 cards plus a cute garland made of Christmassy clothespins to hang them from.
Too bad postage stamps aren't half price lol.
Bring on the card swap 2019!!

Go read the pinned thread. Apparently there's some peas keeping track of who sends out cards and who does not....Not participating again

I also bought stuff today for next year including the card swap. Hoping the scorekeeping doesn't derail it.
Personally I have not the slightest idea if some are not sending any cards. But that's just me.
Please, if you notice someone(s) not sending cards year after year and it bothers you, feel free to not send to them. No need to bother the organizers. Consider it on your DIY list.

Leave it to some peas to try fuck up a good thing. I plan on continuing this tradition if I have to organize it myself or just use old mailing lists. I agree with PLurker. It you notice a discrepancy and it bothers you drop those peas from your list. The spirit of this project is so not about spreadsheets and score keeping.

I'm always jealous, but as a teacher in a rural area, I just don't feel comfortable giving all that information out.

Jeez, I guess that was poor timing on my part for this post.
I just read the pinned post.
I'm in anyway next year.

We had a kid in and out of the hospital the entire month of December. I mailed out as many as I could. I'm sorry I didn't live up to some people's expectations. Makes me sad.

Oh dear. I hope no ones keeping score. I was signed up and my DH was admitted to the hospital in November with kidney failure. We’ve had ongoing medical issues since then. I posted a few weeks ago apologizing that I wasn’t able to participate after all this year

I'm always jealous, but as a teacher in a rural area, I just don't feel comfortable giving all that information out. could you rent a PO Box for 6 months? they are pretty cheap in rural areas. and you wouldn't even have to give us your real/full name. just let the UPPS know on application you may be receiving mail for "freecharlie". They can't give out personal info on po boxes. and if there are those keeping score, it can't be accurate. or kind. they may be shortsighted. don't let it discourage you or be the reason you don't participate angieh1996 cat2007 or anyone else ETA to amend the can't be "kind" to may be shortsighted. any keeping score may not be trying to be unkind but there is no way they have all the info to make that judgement.

Oh ffs, people. Don't let a handful of people who throw a temper tantrum keep you from doing/receiving something that makes you happy and don't let them make you feel guilty.
Hell those with family/medical issues, if you would have posted on a blank thread or had a pea post for you that you were going through x,y, and z, you would not have been expected to send any and would have probably gotten double the cards you did.
To the peas who noticed who didn't send any, don't mail them one next year. Or better yet, keep the spirit and send one anyway and maybe make someone's winter season better.
Since it seems our Canadian peas are being called out...how do you know they didn't just send to other Canadian peas to avoid international postage. Just by reading about the swap year after year, it seems many don't send internationally or at least not as many internationally. How do you know that isn't what happened here. And if it is, why is it okay to call out one country for doing it, but not another?
I assume based on board participation that many of the addresses are US based. That means that those shipping from other countries pay a much higher price to participate.

I had to not buy pre-made cards today when I was out shopping! There are so many cute cards, but I’ll never get through my stash if I don’t use it

ITA, and I have no dog in this fight, bc I've never done the exchange, but I think I remember people posting about receiving cards after the holiday as well. The receiving of cards just might not be over is what I am trying to say.

(no way to know if anyone sent no cards at all or just not those "keeping track") "They" are therefore jumping to conclusions.

I didn't take part in the card exchange, but am wondering if the complaints aren't due to a misunderstanding? Do participants receive a list of all participants and then each person randomly decides who and how many to send to? If so, I would imagine that just like any list, the ones at the beginning would likely receive more of a response than those towards the end of the list. And perhaps others choose to send to those that live locally/domestically due to postage cost constraints?

I print all the labels then randomly pick from all the sheets so I don’t get just the beginning. I knew I would not likely get to send to everyone, so I tried to make it fair. I am sorry I did not get to everyone. I got more out than last year, though. I did not send internationally, though. If I do it next year, I am going to try to get to everyone. I think I need to start in July.

A spreadsheet with mailing info and you send to all or some. I sent 55... 40 US and 14 International.. I recall some I sent to- because they were “places” that spoke to me, or people who I’ve enjoyed on the board. Others were because whatever lol. I had no formula, nor did I keep a list. I was also part of a swap this year that a list was made and you sent to the two people above you, and as many others as you’ll like. I enjoyed both formats! Maybe if the spreadsheet keepers manage to ruin the goodwill of this swap, we adopt that small amount of structure. Either way, I think this swap between interesting and creative is fantastic and hope it continues!

This was my first year and I had so much fun! My wall is covered with cards from all over and I smile every time I look at them. I will definitely start making cards sooner this year to I can get more out next year. I was so focused on the SWAP that I completely forgot to send to our family and friends! Lesson learned, must plan better! LOL

I'm Canadian I sent all international cards all Canadian cards and one to each State listed on the list. And couple extra States randomly chosen.
I just sorted the list by State and did a random pick of names. I knew and said I wasn't going to send to all 130 people.
I know I didnt get 130 cards either. And I was never expecting 130 cards either. Just counted. I got 60 cards. And I'm grateful for all of them. And I sent about 60.

Not the same , but sending e-cards would be a way of getting around international rates and great for those who are reluctant to give out their real address.
If I were going to swap cards this is the way I would want to do it, because I have a hard time dealing with mail.

I have participated in the exchange for 2017 and 2018 but as our postal rate is $2.30au for each overseas card I cannot send to the whole list but I do send a good number and if that excludes me so be it. I have loved every every card I have received and thank those who sent them.

The complaints are about people who have signed up for several years but apparently never sent any cards. I dunno how anyone could know that, but that is the only thing being complained about, so no-one who sent some but less than the full list needs to get defensive about it.
