Hello All!
How is everyone doing so far this week? I've been enjoying a few quality days off - my hamstrings were so tight after that race. Must have been all those hills! I usually take a week or two off after an event, but I'm starting to feel a little itchy to get back out there, so maybe I'll head out for 3 miles tomorrow. We'll be at the beach this weekend and I'm not sure I'll be able to resist running there, either. I don't have another 1/2 planned until January, which seems really far away.

I'm going to live vicariously thru all of you for the next 2 months - enjoy your runs! I am working on the logistics of working out at a local gym while i can't run and it's proving to be more difficult than it should be. One more reason to love running - you can do it anywhere!

I have been increasing the distance of my walks by a little bit. I want to make sure I can handle the 15K when it comes around. Today though, right after the 6th mile, I started having pain in my toe like I was having a little while back. Ugh!! I still finished 7 miles with a pace of 11:54. I would have had my fastest pace if it had not been for that last mile with the pain in my toe. Oh well, I don't need to have every walk be a long walk. LOL I just get on a roll and want to keep going. Oh yes, I also have a friend that might participate in the Hot Chocolate 15K with me. It would be fun if she does. She is more of a runner but I don't think she really cares about time so she will probably run slow along with me.

I'm joining my run group today for my first run in a few weeks! Enjoy the beach yoki! I hope you have a great run tonight, Annabella! Today is a rest day, so I just did my 2 mile dog walk this morning in the light rain. I managed to get yet another blister on my bunion during yesterday's 8, so I'm more than happy to nurse it today. I'll lace up my Hoka's again tomorrow. Yoki, rest and relax as long as you can tolerate it. I'd probably run at the beach too, though.

The other runs are 3-4 miles. It helps both build up stamina AND keep chance of injury down. You may want to give it a try for your power walking too. There is nothing more frustrating than dealing with a training injury that slows you down. i hope your toe feels better quickly!

Starting Monday, 9/29: Walking-7 miles; Running-4.4 miles. I have been trying to get a run in on my lunch hour and it is still very hot here, breaking records even and zero wind. So my intended 3 miles at lunch have not happened , plus I am a total sweaty mess when I get back to work with no place to shower. DH has been sick, so I have been trying to stay clear of him, so as to not get what he has had. Picking up our packets tonight for the Ka Iwi Coast Run this coming Sunday.

LOL I don't think I would get very far if I was trying to power walk.

Elaine - do you lube up your feet with Vaseline? Learned the hard way after the marathon, that this trick should prevent blisters!

LOL I don't have a plan other than wanting to get in at least 5 miles each day. Last week, I did 6 miles all week and have increased that a bit each day. Maybe I shouldn't push it. Thing is, I have also seen the scale drop a little recently. I have been wanting to drop a few pounds for a while but they have not wanted to come off. Seeing the scale drop helps keep me motivated.

Oh!! Tell me about lubing your feet with Vaseline. Maybe that would help prevent my blisters. Does the vaseline get all over the inside of your shoes? I always wear socks but it seems like it would come through the socks onto the inside of the shoe. Maybe that doesn't matter though?

Before putting on socks, but have them sitting next to you - lube your entire foot (top and bottom), including between the toes, and put your sock on. Repeat with the other foot.
Nope, I did not find any leaching Vaseline through my socks - LOL

Nope, I did not find any leaching Vaseline through my socks - LOL I am definitely going to have to try this. I have been using mole foam between certain toes but sometimes it doesn't stay in place, like today. I am not sure if I have any vaseline in the house. I will have to look. If I don't, it is going on my shopping list.

Walking barefoot in the sand is a delight, but running in it is exhausting! (And you can never get the sand out of your shoes!)

A little Vaseline goes a long ways. The Honolulu Marathon was the first event where I saw volunteers handing out tongue depressers with a glob of Vaseline and a sign that said: "DO NOT EAT".

I got my run in today. I went to a spot I haven't been to in a while---it's some local land where they do the school cross country meets, and there's also a pond, hiking trails, gardens, etc. It's pretty quiet on weekdays, but I usually pass a few dog walkers. Well today, I swear that everyone I encountered looked like a serial killer character from the show Criminal Minds. It was bizarre.

I'll give it a try! The issue I'm having is that each blister I get on my bunion results in thickening the callus there. Then, the callus, rubbing against my shoe on long distance runs, causes a blister to form under the callus, which heals to a thicker callus, and so on. I am using a pumice to decrease the thickness of the callus, but it never completely goes away. Really gross, I know, but runners feet aren't pretty, are they?

i ran on the beach last week and it was hard work. I started out in the soft sand and that was tough, then i moved toward the water where the sand was more packed, and i was running on an angle. I did sidewalk runs the rest of the week.

Sorry sbartist you lost my sympathy on the weather when I saw you live in Honolulu! lol I ended up at the back of my run group with a fast runner who joined late and was catching up. Well since it was evening he was nice enough to stay with me as everyone else was way ahead of us. One red light of separation and there's a huge distance between you and the people ahead of you. Trying to keep up with him was hard but I was excited to see at the end that I ran 2.6 mile at 9'44 pace.

Leaving for vacation in the am, but taking my shoes with me to get a run or two in. Will be at DisneyWorld for a week!!! Have a wonderful time! According to my Garmin, my fastest 5K was a run when I was staying at Disney World in March. There is a wonderful running loop around Crescent Bay (where the Boardwalk, Beach Club and Swan and Dolphin are) and then to Hollywood Studios and back. It is nice and flat there. You will have so much fun!

Good to hear what everyone has been up to. I had a bad start to the week when I tripped and fell on my Monday run. Something lying across the footpath which I didn't see in the dark Thankfully I can still run with grazed hands and sprained thumb just hope they heal up quickly!

My last 5K was this time last year and I've been working back up to walking 3 miles at least 3 times a week, my goal is my next 5K on 10/21. I need to shed some weight so my joints don't hurt and am working on that. I know that age is only relative but it sure is taking a toll on my mind!
