I did something last night I've never done... I was having an awful time falling asleep. At 1:30 am I gave up and put on my running gear and went for a 6.5 mile run. I didn't mean to run that far but it was cool and quiet. I saw not a single car or dog. I saw a couple possums, a bunch of deer and heard owls. It was by far the most pleasant outdoor run I've had in ages. I slept in, much to the frustration of my pets who were ready for breakfast bright and early. It was a good good run but I'm not sure it was a smart thing to do and probably won't do it again, but it was so pretty and really really nice.

Oh, and I added a new song to my playlist yesterday and it was a great song to run with: Daft Punk (Pharrel Williams), Get Lucky. Super upbeat song with a great bpm.

I just started couch to 5k. Has anyone done this? I'm pretty out of shape, so I thought it would be a good place to start. I'm on day 2, and it's kicking my butt.

I've done a couple of the C25k programs, and they really help. I've had to repeat days and weeks until I could do it. But that's okay, it's all better than sitting on the couch! I think it's a great place to start, just be careful that you don't hurt yourself. If you really can't keep up, do what you can and do a little bit more the next time. I had company last weekend and we walked many miles around Boston -- a beautiful weekend for it. My niece is looking at colleges. Now I want to go back to college in Boston. But now my knees hurt a lot, and I have a cold. So I've been pretty lazy since Monday.

Good to hear what everyone has been up to. I had a bad start to the week when I tripped and fell on my Monday run. Something lying across the footpath which I didn't see in the dark Thankfully I can still run with grazed hands and sprained thumb just hope they heal up quickly! Oh Crap!! That is one of my fears about running when it is dark. If I fell, I would probably fracture an ankle again or screw up the tendons in my foot again. Glad to hear that didn't happen to you.

I will just repeat days as I need it.

My last 5K was this time last year and I've been working back up to walking 3 miles at least 3 times a week, my goal is my next 5K on 10/21. I need to shed some weight so my joints don't hurt and am working on that. I know that age is only relative but it sure is taking a toll on my mind! You go girl!! You can do it!!

I have not done a C25K program because I don't run, I only power walk. My knees don't handle running well. But, I have heard of many people who have followed these programs successfully. I know one person who started with a C25K. I am not exactly sure how far she runs now but it is much further and she has dropped a lot of weight along the way. She is so much healthier now than she used to be. Like maryannscraps said, repeat weeks if you need to. I think a lot of people do that.

I have fallen TWICE in broad daylight. Once in the street with oncoming traffic when I did not realize the sidewalk ended to a slanted concrete wall. The other time, I tripped on an uneven sidewalk.

If your thumb continues to hurt, please go have it X-rayed. It is actually common to break your wrist at the outside base of the thumb when you fall this way. (I learned a lot about wrist breaks when I broke mine this way in July). I hope that it is just a sprain and that your scrapes heal quickly!

I've been enjoying my walks a lot this week because I'm re-listening to Voyager (Outlander book 3) and I'm in the really good parts. It's great "me" time and the weather has been wonderful, the leaves beautiful, and I keep finding interesting things along the path.

I love that song and I don't know why it took me so long to realize it would make a good running song. I'm still bummed we can't listen to music at the ATM.

Use music that you'll sing along too and keep your pace up. Music really helps me when I'm having a day when I struggle with my workout.

Did yours heal up ok?

I recommend BodyGlide. The stuff is amazing and pretty much mess free. You can put it anywhere you chafe. I put it under my breasts, inner arms, inner thighs, nipples, feet, between toes.
I don't run anymore due to several injuries, but I swore by that stuff when I did. It also comes packaged like deodorant. Easy peasy.

Another vote for BodyGlide - I use it daily, even when I am not out running.

Didn't get a run yesterday due to GI issues. But we did pick up our packets Wednesday evening, the T-shirts are nice, printed both sides. We like getting the glass floats in our packets:

I hope you are feeling better today. I got my 4 miles in this morning, just ahead of the rain. Even though it is still hard work, I SO prefer running when it is cool outside. I also got out early enough that I was able to listen to my favorite ESPN radio show for the whole run. Bonus!

As I sit here before going to work, not sure my GI issues are resolved Which is a good thing, because that means by Sunday a.m., I should be okay - LOL.
And good for you for getting 4 miles in, and a bonus radio show to listen too.
I would like some cooler weather, even some rain to run in. Yesterday, broke another record here at 91.

Here is a photo of DH and I prior to the start of the Ka Iwi Coast Run & Walk this morning (sorry it is so ginormous):

Here is the sunrise we were treated to at the start:

So glad the sun is behind us at this event.
Ka Iwi Coast Run & Walk - results: 903 total finishers
I placed 309th overall.
In my age group 50-54, I placed 18th out of 80 with a finish time of 47:00.9 and a pace of 11:45 per mile.
In 2013, there were 1,006 total finishers and I placed 395th. In my age group 50-54, I placed 24th out of 70 with a finish time of 50:07 and a pace of 12:32 per mile.
Loved this run this morning, had zero issues with any body parts, and felt awesome when I crossed the finished line.
