My doctor has recommended Novasure (ablation) for my heavy, painful periods. Can you tell me about your experience, especially your recovery time? My doctor only does them on Wednesdays and I'd like to do it the day before Thanksgiving since I'll have off the rest of the week from work. We don't host Thanksgiving (just go to MILs house locally) so I don't think it would be a big deal but my husband is concerned about how I will feel.
TIA!

It's hard to say because everyone is so different, but I can share my experience. I was pain-free after 6 hours and was on the treadmill the next day.

I had an ablation a long time ago. It was no big deal. I was tired for the rest of the day because of being sedated that morning but otherwise was fine. By the time I woke up the next morning, I was fine to do pretty much whatever I wanted to do. My doctor told me that many times, he had a hard time getting in touch with his patients when he would try to call the evening of the ablation. Many of his patients weren't home because they were out to eat or doing other things.

Mine was a piece of cake!
Went in on Tuesday and was back to work on Thursday. I work 12 hours shifts too. I could have easily gone back the next day but Wednesdays are my off days. I had a little discharge which is normal but it was painless. I was also running 2-3 days later.

I had one in my late 30s, best decision I've ever made! I'd suffered through near hemorrhage periods for years until one day I stood up suddenly at the conclusion of one of my kid's soccer games from sitting on aluminum bleachers and the flood gates opened...it looked like someone had been murdered. My ablation took what had been super heavy flow for 5 days to a light period of about 3 days. Total game changer. I actually had mine on Christmas eve of all days (they had a cancellation!) and took it easy that day and following weekend but really didn't have any official downtime per se', just hung with the fam. Do it, you won't be sorry. I wish I'd done it earlier!

I had no problem with mine ... it was a gazillion years ago but I'm sure I was up and about the next day, if not that same evening. (I do have a high tolerance for pain.) It also worked like a charm and I never had another period.

Same as above. One day of rest and you should be able to get back to work/play.
It worked wonders in my life!

I had one with a D&C and took a couple days off afterward. There wasn't much pain, but I just wanted time to take it easy before I went back to work. It sound like the Wednesday before Thanksgiving would be a perfect time. You wouldn't have to host people and if you got uncomfortable, you could go home. I hope everything turns out well!

I had mine done on a Thursday, was cooking supper that night, and ran six miles the next morning. It was seriously no big deal. That was five years ago, and I have a little bit of blood every month, but that's it. SO WORTH IT.

I actually just had a local anesthesia and some pain killers when my Dr. did mine. I watched it on the monitor while she explained what she was doing! I had no problems what so ever and was back to work the next day.

Similar experience for me-easy recovery. I think I had very mild cramping post op. Best thing ever! It was affecting my quality of life.

Don't know anything about it myself, but a couple friends had it done and I don't remember any complaints. You should do it when it works for you, and not worry about what anyone else's schedule.

I took it easy for the day, I felt a little wonky due to the anesthesia but I was fine the next day. My life is so much better since, one of the best things I've done for myself.

I had one about a year and a half ago. Piece of cake. It took several months for the period to stop. I sometimes get a little spotting around that time but usually not much at all. I am happy I did it!!

Also back to work the next day or the day after that. It was a number of years ago so I don't really remember it well. It didn't eliminate my periods (they came back after 3 months) but they are so much lighter. Good luck!

Like others, I was tired that evening from the anesthesia but other than that just mildly discomfort like a bad period for about a day or two. Nothing that held me back. I didn't even need the pain killers the Dr. prescribed. Best decision ever! Had it about 3 years ago and not a drop of blood since!
Good luck with yours! Karen

I was taken back from the waiting room at 6:45. I was in the OR at 8 and by 9:30, they were pushing me out the door. I was home by 10 and in my nice warm bed with a heating pad. I was totally fine about three days after, but I took the full week off work and milked it as long as I could at home. I was off the vico by day 2 and only took the occasional advil after that.
Unfortunately, I'm part of the small percentage of women who don't have dainty or no periods afterwards. I still have heavy periods, only they're seven days instead of 12. GYN is suggesting IUD or hysterectomy to eliminate the issue. I don't like the chemical solution (IUD) and surgery terrifies me now (due to a difficult different procedure.)

I didn't have that much pain, but being put under really wiped me out for a couple of days.

I'm getting this procedure done in a couple of weeks and glad to hear the recovery time isn't too long. OTOH, I fully plan to "milk it", as another person posted. I don't know when the last time was that I had a small break in my routine, so I have NO plans to be going on a treadmill, long walks, do housework, etc, as some other people did. I'll just crash in my room and try to catch up on the some of the shows I never seem to have time to watch anymore. Good luck to you OP!

I was totally out of it the first day. By the second, I don't remember much pain. I went out of town one week later though and that was a bad idea. Completely overdid it and was really exhausted. I have some additional health problems so that probably contributed. Mine has been a complete success. No bleeding for a year.

I had Novasure about 4 years ago. I was put fully under and was completely out of it for the rest of the day. But sedation knocks me out and I have a hard time coming back around. I was fine the following day but was super tired again the next day. Nothing big, I just felt weakened a bit.
Mine was a technical success as my horrendous periods were taken care of, but I still get a period every 28 days and recently it's been streachi9ng out to 10 days long. Very light. It just doesn't seem to stop. I am so ready for menopause.

I'm so glad to see this thread. I go for my consult Monday.
A coworker just had it done with a d&c last week and she's been pretty sore. I'm hoping since I'm just getting the EA my recovery will be more like most of yours.

Recovery time, about 3 days. Some cramping that required painkillers, that's all. One of the best things I ever did.

Thank you everyone for your responses- they really make me feel better. I've scheduled the procedure for the day before Thanskgiving.
