I get these crazy side advertisement boxes when I'm on news websites (like CNN or CBS) and a frequent one is "Gut Doctor: I beg Americans to throw out this vegetable". A few times over the past year or so I have clicked on the link and it takes you to a video that teases the answer over and over again and I only last about 3 to 5 minutes before I get frustrated and close out (I think ultimately, you have to join a "newsletter" or some other money taking scam to get to the "answer").
So, what is the answer???

My guess is corn. ETA looks like pancakes bothered to look it up.

So is it just about the high glycemic rating of corn or something else?

Okay, so given this, do you still eat corn? I like it in small quantities with mexican food but I stopped eating corn about 20 years ago because of the carbs.

I think of corn as a grain not a vegetable - do you?

I hate the way corn gets stuck in my teeth. That, coupled with its high carb/low nutritional value, has kept it off my plate for almost as long as you.

I watched that 20+ minute video once. He gives the answer at the very end, lol. It's about how corn is all GMO and bad for your gut plus the pesticides in the dirty dozen of fruits and veggies. I specifically remember that apples are pretty bad and you should definitely only buy organic apples if you eat apples. I LOVE corn but don't eat a ton of it except from the local farmer's market in the summer. I'm sure it's just as bad as grocery store corn.

I’m literally sitting here reading this whilst flossing the corn out my teeth after having it at dinner!

I love to eat corn on the cob in the summer. My dad lives near a farm in southern Wisconsin. The farmer sells the best tasting corn at his farm stand. Yes, the corn gets stuck in my teeth.

Corn, whilst being fairly high in carbs so not suitable for people with diabetes who are limiting their carbs to balance their sugar has a beneficial nutritional value as well as a fibre value. The nutrients found in fresh corn is very beneficial to healthy eyes .Corn is particularly high in lutein and zeaxanthin, two carotenoids that may prevent cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. I love fresh corn on the cob.

We've already been told that the ban will continue, thankfully, after Brexit. We've also been told by the US it will create problems on trade deals if we carry on with ban. So it's pretty certain that we won't have your GMO veggies or your chlorine washed chicken on the dinner table here as there would be uproar if they lifted the GMO ban on our food

The post title made me LOL, SweetieBugs. I've wondered, but never click through a teaser like that. Not surprised to see it is corn. I'll eat corn tortillas and do love a great grilled Mexican corn salad but stay away from HFCS.

I love corn and Im not going to stop eating it because of a spammy video! Also, in our world, corn and beans are vegetables, even though I know that is likely not the case in the plant world

Oh yeah. I'm not giving up a food I enjoy unless a physician or dietitian who knows my health status and medical history tells me that consuming it in any quantity will do me measurable harm. And as far as corn? The less processing the better, but it's not going to hurt me to add corn kernels to soups and salads, or eat corn on the cob, even on a regular basis. The dietitian I consulted with said it's not corn itself, it's heavily processed corn derived fillers and additives that cause a problem. Sweet corn (the type we eat on the cob or as whole kernels) is fine for me. Okay, so given this, do you still eat corn? I like it in small quantities with mexican food but I stopped eating corn about 20 years ago because of the carbs.

For awhile they (the gut doctor) was saying to not be bananas.
I am allergic to corn (and it is in soooo many things as a filler) so I don't have to worry about it as I don't eat it.

But it's not the same kind of corn. There is commodity corn, which is processed into fillers and other additives. There are corn varieties that are dried and ground as-is into cornmeal or dried and popped. And there is sweet corn, which is what we eat off the cob or as whole kernels. Corn, like HFCS, is in a lot more than you think.

I don't think whole, unprocessed plant foods are a big risk, unIess they're a poisonous variety.

I don't like corn in kernel/cob form. I do love it in POPCORN and CHIP form.

Corn, like HFCS, is in a lot more than you think. That’s what I’m saying. Even if you decide to avoid real corn (like corn on the cob, frozen, or in a can) you have to be careful because it’s added in some form to everything. So if you believe this is bad for you, you have to read labels, you can’t just cut it out of your veggie/grain intake.

I don't think whole, unprocessed plant foods are a big risk, unIess they're a poisonous variety. For the most part I don’t either, unless you are sensitive to the carbohydrate in them. Corn raises my glucose pretty high and while I love a good ear of fresh sweet corn it’s not necessarily a great choice for me.

And I seem to be surviving just fine on the chicken we have hereb and every other thing. My point was you sounded rather snotty, but you sometimes do on these threads. We are used to hearing "rude Americans" here but I never seem to read rude comments from Americans about other countries; it's always the other way around.
