I was going about my day and suddenly had severe pain on my right side abdomen. Like can’t stand up straight, nauseated, heating pad isn’t doing anything worst cramps of my life for over an hour. I call DH to come home from work thinking I’m dying and need to go to the hospital. While waiting for DH to get home I call the advice nurse and while I’m on hold the pain just goes away.
The advice nurse was nice but says it’s period cramps and to lie down and use a heating pad.
I’m glad I’m not dying but I am embarrassed...
I’m over periods... when does menopause start?

You never had period cramps before? Lucky you 🙂
As for menopause- it’s not so much when it starts as when it finishes!!

Lower right quadrant? I think you should at least visit urgent care.

The right side pain would make me think something other than menstrual though.
I’ve had exactly that happen to me once this past winter though, sudden onset pain can’t stand up or breathe properly, then it goes away by itself. My doc said that is often digestive, TMI but like a piece of poop that might be hard or dry and is going around a bend in the intestine.

I had that happen and it ended up being nothing more than intestinal cramping, only more severe than I've ever encountered in my life. You never know, abdominal pain could be so many things! But if it's fine I wouldn't worry about it anymore unless it returns and doesn't go away with ibuprofen.

That’s weird that it was on one side. Are you due for your period? Any chance that it’s a cyst that’s burst? That hurts like a mofo and then stops when it bursts.
But, if you’ve never had period cramps, you’re so damn lucky. Before having kids, I used to get them so bad, I’d pass out from the pain. They were ridiculous.

I once left work to go to the er, in screaming pain that I was certain was my appendix bursting. The diagnosis? I had to poop. That was stupid.

My dad took me to the doctor, thinking it was appendicitis. Nope, just needed a bloody good crap. Embarrassing!

Just be careful & get continuing pain on your right side checked an infected appendix can be very serious.
Glad your feeling better now.

If it continues, I would go urgent care. it could be something more serious. It always better to be safe, than sorry.

I never had period cramps only on one side. Was it upper or lower right side? Things that come to mind are appendix, ovarian cyst or gallbladder, but I am not a doctor.

Could be a kidney stone moving down the ureter.

I've never had anything like that on only one side. My first thought would be appendix or gallbladder. So I don't think you overreacted at all. And I'd still be suspicious of the gallbladder if you had eaten any particularly greasy food beforehand. Also the nausea goes with a gallbladder attack.

I had that kind of pain once and it was an ovarian cyst rupturing. It wasn’t appendicitis but something worse. Husband too me to the hospital but he couldn’t find anything and I felt like an idiot...

I’ve had cramps before but this was normal annoying cramps times ten. It was on the right just under my belly button.
I haven’t had cramps as much since having kids. Maybe I’m too distracted, ha ha ha.
I’ve had a kidney infection before and this was a different spot.
I will definitely get checked if it comes back/ask at my next appointment.

I hope it was just menstrual cramps. When I had crippling, right side only pain, it was a burst ovarian cyst.

I also hope it was just menstrual cramps... bearing in mind that I am not a medical professional, when you say "abdomen" I think higher up, like stomach, just under the breasts. My menstrual cramps are always much lower-- I'd describe them as being in my pelvis.
"Can’t stand up straight, nauseated, heating pad isn’t doing anything worst cramps of my life" is how I would describe what in retrospect were probably gallbladder attacks, so I echo the sentiment to get it checked out if the pain recurs.

I had those symptoms about 2 weeks ago. Went to the hospital and found out it was kidney stones. I wouldn’t wish that pain on my worst enemy!

I had that and was on my period so I thought it was period cramps. When I started throwing up and couldn't even walk without moaning, I knew it was something else. I thought I was dying but it was just kidney stones. I think it was the worst pain I've ever felt in my life.

This - I've had the same thing happen in the past. I rarely cramp during my periods (and yes, at 47 I'm totally over them, too), but I had really bad cramps on one side one month a couple of years ago. I was on the verge of heading to the ER when the pain went away. It wasn't very long before my annual check-up, so I asked the doc about it while I was there and she ran some quick tests and said it looked like I'd had an ovarian cyst that burst and that was probably the reason for the pain. I had the same type of symptoms and it was decided that it was multiple ovarian cysts bursting. I couldn't straighten up, walking upstairs was impossible, it was so bad, my doctor phoned the hospital and said I'm sending you a patient, admit her immediately. So, yeah, ovarian cysts hurt a lot.

If you figure out when menopause starts..please let me know! This is getting ridiculous.

I was sure I would be taking tampons to the nursing home. I feel your pain! I finally stopped at about 53 or so.
