DD (15) and I are leaving Thurs to go to Orlando with her bff and mom. I want to do a road trip goodie bag that they get to pull something out each hour (it's about a 7 hour drive). So far I have:
-makeup wipes -face mask -gummies -$5 Dunkin card
I am looking for fun things for them. Could even be something to do on the way down to pass time. $5 and under per item is what I'm shooting for. What ideas do you have?
I am also thinking of making like a snack basket for them as well. So the goodie bag doesn't necessarily have to have a ton of eats.

Is there anything you can buy that they can use at your destination? If they don’t have real waterproof phone cases, what about one like this? DH used it for a tube ride down a river, in an ocean and a pool. It’s more than you listed but if y’all will be in the water the extra money could be worth it. I’m sure there are other brands, this was a few years ago IIRC. Along the same lines, a small bottle of hair protection from the sun, oh I use a beach waves hair spray that smells like summer and I love it. Not Your Mother’s Hair Spray. The brand has several options like this. iTunes is no longer a thing, right? Are there gift cards to other music streaming services?

I bought her and I some phone cases off Amazon (they arrived today). Her friend and mom already had some (I had planned on giving them some since they came in a pack of 4). I'll checkout the hair stuff. Thanks.

I would throw in some Disney "toys" or beach toys is this is not Disney trip. That sounds like a fun trip. Matching fun sunglasses, hair accessories, socks are always fun. Walk the Dollar sections at Target, Dollar General and Dollar Tree plenty of inspiration there.

Honestly, I think I'd do this and not add to what you've listed already. If they were younger--maybe--but I don't think an every hour thing is necessary. I would do a snack basket though.. dummies, gum, pretzels, chocolate etc

I looked at Target today and didn't see anything. I will go to Dollar Tree tomorrow.

When I get together to do crafts with others we still buy a few fun little things.

I was thinking the same, just something fun. We are actually celebrating their 10 year friendaversary. We are doing makeovers at Sephora, dinner at Disney Springs (will take fun photos too). Waterpark Glow party Sat. Brunch w/Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, Ariel and Eric on Sunday. Bestie's mom got them Disney ears (dd chose Ariel and bff chose Rapunzel).

We generally meet up at the locations so we don't need trip goodie bags, but we nearly always bring each other a variety of small thoughtful gifts and funny/silly sorts of treats. It just adds a fun element! How about some sort of make-your-own bracelet kit so they could do matchy-matchy little friendship bravelets?

DD just setup an IG page to sell them. She mentioned she wanted to go get one of the large packs of thread to take with her.

I like the idea of those bracelets, I bet they sell them at the parks for a lot more, and it gives them something to do on the trip. They could make ankle bracelets too/instead.

Check out the travel size stuff at Ulta if you have one nearby. There's some cute stuff there for teens.
Lip balm, either colored or flavored with SPF. Sunburned lips are horrible.
The beach spray for hair is a good idea. If anyone has color treated or really dry hair, I'd just suggest getting a sugar spray instead of salt spray.
Hand sanitizer. Whole Foods has some clip on ones that smell really good (I have a mint mojito one right now) and Bath & Body Works always has fun ones.
Portable phone charger
Mad Libs books
Travel board games or card games
Adult coloring books/colored pencils or markers or gel pens

If you actually live near a Sephora, you can go in and get $5 gift cards, which I know is not a lot of money at Sephora, but it will offset the cost of whatever little something they might like to buy. I think you can get a sheet mask for under $5 at least. If you're willing to splurge and spend $10 on each card, that is enough for one of the Sephora eyeshadows ($8), Sephora lipstories lipstick ($8), or fancy lip balm ($6). I also think that they might give you the little mirror compacts, especially if you mention what you're picking the cards up for. If no one in your car is adverse to perfumes, you might also ask your Sephora folks if they could spare two summery perfume samples. My understanding is that they'll give you a regular carded vial sample... bonus item for the girls, no cost. I don't know what the waterpark glow party is, but ... do you need to grab them some extra glow sticks before you hit the road? I am sure they have those at dollar tree. If you're at Ulta like someone above suggested, check out their Fizz and Bubble products-- a bunch of mine were on clearance for under $5. And failing that, over in the Ulta bath section, they have some bath fizzy disks. (I am suggesting those over bath bombs because the disks are better sealed, IMO, and they're flatter, so easier to pack in the goodie bag.)

What about some of the hand crank flashlights or the the headlights that are on a headband? We used these one year and the kids really enjoyed them. They used them and booklights in the back seat so they could play games after dark.

I'm not sure I'd do this. A little trinket every hour is what you do for little kids who can't keep themselves occupied for a long time, not for (almost) adults.
The idea of wanting them to be comfortable and have fun the whole time is so sweet, though. I'd go for a snack basket and maybe a basket of magazines, and maybe a pair of fuzzy socks for everyone since the airco in cars can get so cold, and leave it at that.

See if you can find some Mad Libs (you could probably even find/print some online)! My (adult) friends and I always try to get them for road trips/vacations and they are a total riot.

Personally, I think above the age 10-12 should be able to ride in a car for several hours, sit at event, sit in a waiting room at an appointment, be in a restaurant, or visit someone's home, etc...without having to be indulged, bribed, or need a device to keep them occupied. A 15 year old shouldn't need a gift every hour to keep them occupied or help them behave during a long car ride.
If I were going to do a goodie bag for a 15 year old on a road trip, it would be a one time thing, certainly not every hour. I would do a cross body bag or fanny pack type thing , with the following: Spending money Mini Hand sanitizer Mini hand lotion Mini word search (with pen or pencil) Chapstick

I totally agree with your first paragraph. I was hoping I wasn't the only one thinking that "letting them open one item every hour" was age inappropriate. I do think the idea of doing a goodie bag as a little gift/memento of the trip is a sweet and thoughtful idea though. Have a great time!

It’s meant to just be something fun. I have no doubt they are both old enough to occupy themselves. It’s just meant to be fun. It’s a trip to celebrate their friendhip. Maybe that may seem over the top too. But it’s what we want to do.

We’re getting ready to hit the road for 8 hours with my kids (7 & 3).... they’ll each have a sling backpack (got at the family party this weekend!) and will have their devices charged with downloaded movies/shows, personalized water bottle that I’ll fill with ice water, new headphones, teddy grams bags, cheezit bags, gummy bears, granola bars, fig bars, colored pencils/coloring books (no markers/crayons in the car). I’ll have other snacks for us too. They’ll get their bags when we get on the highway.

I agree that this is a goodie bag for a celebration, not something to keep them busy or occupied. I don’t have any additional ideas, I think you’ve gotten plenty.
Have a great trip!
