Happy August everyone!
For this month, Meg and I thought we would just start a chat thread for all the team players rather than divide up.
Questions, motivation needs, venting, happy purchases, scrappy woes...all encouraged!
Can you believe it's August? Summer is my favourite season, so I'm hoping this month slows down.
Do you have any good plans or "must do" occurrences this month?
This weekend, my whole family is away and I'll be flying solo at home. I'm nervous! I can of course settle in and scrap/watch netflix, but I'm so used to having people around for outings.
Next weekend, we leave for another week of camping. Oooooh, the preparation needed is massive.

I like doing it here. You can like posts, where you can’t do that in messages.
I cannot believe it’s August already. We’re on our way to Austin, so I’ll have some fun pics to scrap when we get back! 😁
Have fun being solo! Do as many things that you love to do when alone, and enjoy!

I like doing it here. You can like posts, where you can’t do that in messages. That's what I was thinking too! I'm always looking for the like button in the messages >.< I love a good solo weekend, but then again I'm an introvert, so that's how my battery recharges. We have SIL + 10yo nephew and FIL + his new girlfriend in town this week so there has been a bit too much people time for me. I had to excuse myself yesterday while they played mini golf and spend the day quietly doing housework and looking for missing books at the library. We have had some fun adventures though, which means much more interesting photo opportunities, which makes me happy. I can't believe it's August either. I'm determined to make the most of every day while the sun shines. We'll be back to gloomy PNW weather so soon, I don't want to miss out on enjoying this month!

I am hoping to get some photos organized and page kits made to take along with me.

We're off out with FIL today, touristing a little bit at the Seattle Center. My nephew can't make it so it'll be a little less fun/fewer photos to take. It's going to be a gorgeous day, and hot but not unbearable. Must remember sunglasses! And granny squares for the ferry. And a book! No crafting time...

Ok, that's something I volunteered for, and I do love it but I love weekends alone too lol I'm an introvert though so I love being on my own I am a total homebody and introvert too! But I'm so used to people coming and going around me, and having someone to walk the dog with me, or play tennis with me, whenever *I* want... I think it's a fairly "spoiled" point in my life where the kids are self-sufficient yet around and involved with me still. Honestly, I don't miss the days of entertaining little people - it was a lot of work! My day has been lovely so far: drove my son to work at 6:30, and went to the (large) local farmer's market (bought Washington cherries joblackford. They are the BEST. BC cherries are good too. Ontario cherries are nowhere close). Visited Starbucks. Drank my coffee with fresh market donuts. Did laundry. Then I went to my LSS when it opened - they have the new Vicky Boutin and new Paige Evans, at least most of it (some of it is coming next week along with the new Shimelle), and visited starbucks again Now I think I might actually scrap a little! Life of leisure!

I like the chat thread here too. I like being able to edit and like posts.
Probably no scrap time this weekend for me. I did do some embroidery the other day and simple Bible art journaling yesterday. I took my homemade TN and coloring pencils out with me yesterday evening. I did a page while DD & I waited for our outdoor movie in the park to start.

I noticed that the DD 2019 thread has started. Who here does DD? Cards? When do you start?
I can't bring myself to it yet...the warm sunny skies make me think of blues and rainbows. Puffy white clouds and flowers!
However... I did notice one of the challenges this month is to go back to Aug 2018 and do a challenge from that list. Last year, Linda did a "Christmas in August" challenge. So it can be worth a point if you are ready to dig out Christmas stash!
I actually pulled up the Aug 2018 challenges and printed them all out again...I have a lot of challenges to pick from now!!!

I've already made (or half-made) a couple of hundred Christmas cards - recycled cards for donations and most of the Pea swap cards I'll need (although those aren't finished - need sentiments). I got those done months ago, especially when I found a fav paper clearanced at Joanns before they reset for the Designer Destination thing - enough for about 80 cards, I think.
And I've set up some pages for a digital December album. I'm keen to get it ready early because I get so overwhelmed by a busy December, and I think American Thanksgiving is late this year, which adds additional pressure because we travel for that holiday and I get depressed when I get home (our family is in Hawaii so it's hard to come home).
But I'm in no mood for Christmas really. It's much too lovely and I want to really enjoy this month. But I just restocked all my Halloween cards in my shop (and sold one yesterday) and Christmas is coming next. I need to work on Valentines in November and December. Doh! I should start die cutting Christmas ornament cards... but it's going to be 90 here today and tomorrow and we don't have air... ugh. Can Christmas crafting help cool me down? Probably not!

I have to spend Christmas in Hawaii and then I get depressed after... I can imagine I would too!!! Does that make it more challenging to use up the lovely Christmas papers in you DD, or do you just put tropical scenes on Christmas paper anyways?

Does that make it more challenging to use up the lovely Christmas papers in you DD, or do you just put tropical scenes on Christmas paper anyways? haha, yes, it's definitely a "poor me" first world problem! Actually we spend Thanksgiving week in Hawaii and then come home a few days later and try to use the Christmas spirit to counter the depressing darkness and endless rain. Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas helps a lot. And twinkle lights. The Hawaii folks come here for Christmas and New Years. It probably doesn't help that I grew up upside-down in NZ, so I still have trouble with having Christmas in winter. I've never gotten/had to scrap a midsummer Christmas, tickets home are too expensive, but it would definitely be challenging with some of the "let it snow" supplies. But we're used to being seasonally confused - Halloween in spring, Easter in autumn? I've sorted through my July photos and flagged and edited the good ones, but besides that I've been sitting here all afternoon and gotten very little done so I'm going to give up now. It's hot and I can't be bothered.

I can’t believe it’s already August.
My ds starts second grade on Tuesday. He had such a fun summer traveling and spending time with grandparents and other family. I have to admit though, I am ready to get back into a routine.
I worked most of the summer from home while ds was traveling and we were having our backyard redone. As a result, I’ve gotten used to sleeping in until right before I had to call into a meeting, taking it easy after work (since I’m already home but dh is still at work), and having some me time.
Starting on Tuesday, I go back into the office early so I can pick ds up from school at a reasonable time.
This weekend was busy with back to school stuff, but I still managed to get a couple pocket pages done in my every-day-in-June album. I finished the 24th and almost finished the 25th. It’ll be a fun book when it’s done. I did a 6x8 album for June with everything going on in my yard, with summer crazy schedules, and a vacation at the end of the month. Not a “typical” month, but enough going on for it to be interesting.

Thanks for starting our chat thread kitbop . I'm not sure how I missed it until now. I am so jealous of you having the whole weekend to yourself. I hope you were able to enjoy yourself and make the most of it. Can you believe it's August? Summer is my favourite season, so I'm hoping this month slows down. Winter is my least favourite season, so I'm hoping this month speeds up! Only 26 days until spring!! I like doing it here. You can like posts, where you can’t do that in messages. Good Monday morning! I have yet to scrap a thing this month. Need to unpack from last weekend’s crop and with the little guys here and the veggie garden needing work that is still not done. Printing little boy pic’s tomorrow and hope to be scrapping them by the end of the week. Have some great ones of them helping in the garden and of their cousin cutting grass to use for myboysnme’s Donna challenge. I don’t regularly do a DD. Most of our holiday activity takes place on just a few days during the month, so i usually scrap it all at once after New Years. I make Christmas cards, usually starting in October. Have a few new dies though that i’d Like to play with: the new TH one with the cute elf and some EC Christmas critters. Can’t believe kids are going back to school already. Ours don’t usually go back until at least the end of this month. Up here we need to let the kids soak up as much sun as they can before the long dark winter.

Good morning (er...afternoon) I've got a plan to clean my house, and my DD19 wants to go to HobLob later to shop for her new place. I am matching some pics with base pages and making base pages right now. Gonna mop later....so much dog hair...still shedding for the summer I guess. My girls are about to go back to school....Sr. registration tomorrow for my baby, and Thursday my oldest moves back into the dorm (phew, we were unable to find anything off campus this year). Ok well, back to work for me...have a lovely day!

My FIL and SIL are both headed home first thing tomorrow. Thank goodness!! It was nice to see them but I'm exhausted. I'm looking forward to eating on my normal schedule and having quiet time without 3 people trying to talk at once and not discussing politics at dinner. I'm going to make a list of the things that drove me crazy about the visitors (complaining about everything, ordering food you know will be disappointing, being a martyr, not listening) to remind myself of the things I do that probably annoy other people. (Does anyone else have a "things I won't do when I get old" list?)
I tried to get back to crafting today with some cards to say thank you to realtors/for realtors to celebrate a house purchase with their clients (something that people come to my shop looking for) but it was too hot and I just couldn't push myself to figure out a good design. It's at least 83 F inside the house tonight.ugh. I'm so glad our bedroom is not this hot. This laptop is cooking me so I need to get off the internet!

(Does anyone else have a "things I won't do when I get old" list?) The thing is that when you get old you either forget you had a list or think, "I KNOW I had that list SOMEWHERE, but you will never be able to find it! Seriously, though, I visited my 96 year old aunt on Saturday and was struck again by how gracefully I would LIKE to age. She is SO positive. She talks about people she met in the Seniors' lodge 20 years ago with whom she has become fast friends, and about a fun girls' day out with a couple of ladies who still have drivers' licences. She says her family doesn't get in much to see her, but explains that they are busy and talks about their accomplishments and adventures. She asks about others, how they are doing. Her eyesight and hearing are going, and she says, "It's a good thing I like my own company". I finally did a little paper crafting this month. My crop stuff is still not unpacked. Put together a quick card this morning to deliver on my way home from town today. Off to get my vehicle serviced, print some pic's, stop at the LSS (and maybe Michaels'), and run some errands. Hoping to do at least one page tomorrow. Signed up for a Sketchy Saturday this week, so maybe that will get me going again.

Her eyesight and hearing are going, and she says, "It's a good thing I like my own company". you're too funny. But your aunt sounds lovely. She must have always been a nice person to be around. The idea of keeping a list came from an article in the New Yorker I think - I clipped it because it resonated, I'm a bit of a complainer but I dislike listening to old people who complain about everything! - and they also turned their list from a litany of complaints into solid advice to themselves for how to age gracefully. Instead of "mom needs to stop driving, she's irresponsible and dangerous" they framed it as something like "I will listen to others when they advise me that I'm not up to driving any more and let go with grace and accept their help" - that kind of thing. It sounds like you're busy today. Maybe once you have all those things out of the way (and you have some new supplies) you'll be motivated to get scrappy It's misty and cool (like fall!) here this morning so I can't use the heat as an excuse for my laziness today. I'm going to try to get some household to-dos done so I can focus. I'm also allowing that my procrastination may be mental processing that's necessary for Brain to send me a creative solution to my crafty problems. If I can't make progress on the realtor/house cards today I'll either switch to a different card project or I'll work on photography and new listings.

I sorted the photos I printed today. Fingers crossed that I can use some of them on a page or two tomorrow. (If I don't go out into the garden to check, the berries and veggies will just stay in suspended animation until I get out there, right?)

I used my ScanNCut a bunch yesterday, cutting out a lot of images I'd stamped and colored in the past few months to get them ready to use in projects. I only do it a few times a year because it's noisy and sometimes frustrating and I find it easy to do lots and then out the machine away for months. So, is that organizing? I'm thinking it counts as organizing.
I have a lot more coloring to do, and I'm currently working on the floor because I suddenly decided I should recreate some Halloween cards from last year but I don't think I'm done with the cutting machine yet. I'm pretty sure I can get a "messy" photo - I think that's one of our photo prompts, unless that's an August Break one.
Oh, casserole dinner is beeping! gotta go...

I find the same thing with any of my machines, joblackford. Sometimes I will spend way too long looking for the perfect title stickers in my stash when I could have cut a title in a few minutes on my Silhouette, but unless I plan to be cutting a lot with it, I tend to just let it sit there mocking me. I scrapped!!!! Finished two pages today but can't share them till tomorrow evening (they are the sample for Sketchy Saturday). Made a good start on three more pages. Did some cutting with my Silhouette. Have the pages loosely laid out. But not ready to commit yet to exactly what they will look like. I always find that if I don't scrap for a few days I tend to overthink things on the first project or two. Hoping inspiration will come to me while I am doing other things today.

I'd been having a heck of a time getting good stamping on my Tiny Tim platform lately... lots of pressing really hard and still not getting good impressions, adding extra layers of card underneath to try to fix it. Well after a lot of strenuous effort and thinking I'd be better off just using an acrylic block I finally noticed what should've been obvious - I was using it on the rubber side instead of the clear stamp side. >>>DOH!<<<
And apparently I've been doing that for weeks... such an idiotic thing... I should've noticed!
I've been blaming the platform, the stamps, myself... but it was the most basic user error, simple carelessness.
I'm stamping skelly-critters for Halloween cards this morning. I have a great idea for a silly Halloween skeleton cat card based on a stupid song I can't get out of my head. Putting together some black cats in dark woods cards. Tidying up a bit. And I'm listening to a podcast about creativity and the perils of our productivity/busy-focused society called Hurry Slowly.

Helloooo Teamsters!!! How is everyone doing?
Have had a busy few weeks doing other stuff--having family here, harvesting the garden, general errands--but was able to finish some pages yesterday and today. Have signed up for a miniLOAD, so hoping to get at least one page finished each day for this next seven days.
Need to create an anniversary card for dh for this next weekend. Talked to my brother today--it is his birthday--and he was delighted with the card I made for him, so that makes it all seem worth while.
Hoping everyone is getting time to play and having fun.

Trying to do everything at once instead of focusing on one project at a time.

The month is already half over. ugh. I did end up making 4 layouts due to a digital designer sending out an email of a 7 day layout challenge. 4 out of 7 isn't bad. Now if I can just get them posted on the sharing thread before the end of the month. We have openings in August for Sketchy Saturday Sign-ups for anyone that wants to host or prep for Sketchtember?? My DS16 turns 17 on the 26th of the month. So I need to start getting and wrapping presents. Also not thinking about him turning 17 as it makes me want to cry.

It's hard watching kids grow up LisaDV! Bittersweet, acknowledging that we can't have them forever... my oldest turns 21 in a couple of weeks. It's so...adult. I'm really glad all 3 of mine love being at home and doing things with us. All 3 of mine still love it when I scrapbook a picture of them. Not so much gushy "I love you" pages, but pages of where they are and what they do. And they all love the albums...if I get It an old one, they will all gather round to reminisce! Makes me 🤗 Speaking of which, I have some super photos from Christmas 2018 to now (9 months worth. Uh oh.) and my laptop died. It was my photo processor with photoshop and all, and DHs laptop doesn't have space. I might have to bite the bulltet and reserve some space/time on the gaming PC in the basement! I'm pretty good with computers, but hate messing around with installing programs and moving files. Takes forever. We got home from camping Thursday and have company this weekend. Back to work Monday! And I got my first layout of the month done yesterday... 😳😊😕 LisaDV, I can take a sketchy Saturday...I'll use it to springboard into some scrapping today! Just let me know when to post.

I can take a sketchy Saturday...I'll use it to springboard into some scrapping today! Just let me know when to post. You can have next Saturday. You can have the 31st. I'll put you on the schedule tomorrow morning. Thanks. It's nice that your kids still like their scrapbook pages. I do a lot of just everyday moment pages and mine are still over it. My dd, at least can appreciate the craftiness of it, so that's a plus. I'm sorry you have to go mess with program installation and moving files. I keep my files on portable EHDs just so I can switch between my desktop and DH's laptop when need be. OK, I'm off to bed. We just got back from the county fair and lots of walking and watched the rodeo (thought of you, grammadee ). I'm whooped.
