The prices seem too high. I will probably get fomo and buy an album, but at this point, i already have so so much from past years it doesn’t make sense to buy more.

Ugh. That is a STEEP price for an album. I am torn. I don't really love the white with the stars or the quote that's on the red one. Help me out: which albums have a thick spine? I can't do the simple stories/snap for this project. It's just too big. Someone posted about a simple stories with a larger spine -- I will look for that. I will NOT order from FJ again. Had no idea they didn't put a bookplate on their albums. And since they're vinyl, the stickers I just put on there (looking so tacky, btw), are going to melt off any day now. Dangit. I was hoping not to have to deal with this again. There is a red snowflake one at ACOT but god forbid these companies post sizes. Please help! Post links to big-spine 6X8 albums. Thank you! The only one I know of is the Simple Stories. As far as the FJ I saw a cute idea on their site... they wrapped jute around the spine (top to bottom) and added a tag. It could be made really cute for DD. felicityjane.com/blogs/felicity-jane/80213763-fall-memories-mini-album-evelyn-wolff?_pos=15&_sid=bbfc4f42c&_ss=rI also really liked what Sheree Forcier did with her album. http://instagram.com/p/Bo0INrUljGg

So I asked AmyGretchen what size she was doing and she says she is thinking 4x6. Ive seen comments about Ali doing 4x6 also. So is everyone really doing 4x6 or are they trying to hype them so they sale?

Here is my so crazy it might be true prediction.... they have really low stock of the 6x8 albums so a lot of people will miss out (we know theyve had supply issues). They'll push people to the 4x6 album instead on the basis of 'that's what we're doing'.

The reason I hold off on doing 4x6 is vertical photos.

I cannot imagine having a house full of kids + Christmas stuff going on and thinking a 4x6 album would work. Now, AmyGretchen's kids are almost all out of the house, so maybe she could pull it off. But Ali? I would think it would be too small. How could she be very creative with her own products in using that size? I also think its weird that there are no 4x6 transparencies if so many are doing that size. The 3x8 size would look weird. I guess people could cut down 6x8 but that seems to be wasteful.

True, but I wonder if that may have been more challenging. By sticking with 4x6, she can cherry pick all of her products even more than usual, and pick the best items from each offering. The 6x8 transparencies with a repeating pattern should be easy enough to cut down.

I’m doing either 3x8 or 4x6 this year. 6x8 is just too big for my husband and me. 4x6 sounds more doable, when it comes to photo sizing. But 3x8 will look nicer on the shelf with my 6x8s and I do like that green cloth album.

After finding a bunch of HS Christmas stuff from JoAnns from at least 2 years ago in my master bedroom closet tonight I think it's safe to say I am skipping the AE DD madness. I have albums in 4x6 and 6x8 from AE and SS to choose from as well.
I am only planning on shopping the KP release, and I will behave this year!

I went through it heavily last year and got rid of (sold) a ton, but there really is still too much. I think my problem is because I use so many different sized projects. I have stuff for a 6x8. I have 12x12 scrapbook papers. 6x6 paper pads for card making. There are 3x4 cards. And 4x6 cards. The only company I am really concerned about FOMO is Felicity Jane. But she's so late in getting her stuff sneaked that I am *afraid* to put all my eggs in her basket.

These prices are ridiculous! I didn't think I would see the day I totally stopped buying from AE but my budget just can't handle this. Add in all the headaches of the ordering process and worry that your stuff will be correct and I think this is a sign that I need to rethink my DD. Maybe I will just add in some pages to my PL.
Looking through my stash, I have lots of stuff and a small red album from Tuesday morning. I've always justified the price of this project by saying I do best getting it completed with a kit. But if I decide to do a separate album, I'm going to have to find something more budget friendly or make my own kit. FOMO may still get me this week, but I need to really think on this.

So I have gone through my DD supplies today and wow. The only 'hole' in my collection is 3x8 cards. Congrats on tackling the DD stash and figuring out exactly what you need/are missing! That's a great way to get your FOMO brain in place before all the order periods begin. So that means if I wanted to order an album only, it would be costing me AU$70. That is insane. Yeah, that's a lot of money! I was calculating and ordering a simple 6x8 album from AE this year would set me back 1/6th of my Disneyland Paris annual pass (which lasts me 16 months due to free months upon renewal) or 1/4 of my yearly opera subscription. Putting scrappy expenses in perspective with my other leisure expenses really helps to see more clearly and be less flippant about spending. I just got a couple of the FJ ones from the sale and they are SO nice. The quality is head and shoulders above the AE/SC ones. The FJ albums are $24.99 regular price, and I feel like I stole them with the sale. Glad you've found an album that will work for you and come in on budget. I don't need any more. I don't need any more. I don't need any more. I don't need any more. I don't need any more. Oh, look at all the cute stuff the peas are linking to...... I don't need any more. I don't need any more. I don't need any more. I don't need any more. I don't need any more. Oh, look at the great Simple Stories stuff. I don't need any more. Stay strong, my friend! Making your own kit is truly the way to get the stuff you already have used up so if you like whatever Christmas stash you have, I'd encourage you to play around and find what works together before all the order periods open and FOMO kicks in. I hope you can find solution that works for you. Keep us in the loop with how it's going! Ugh those prices are not looking good and the shipping charge as well. Definitely wouldn’t be worth it unless I order a heap of stuff. What's your solution, anniefb ? As an international, you're stuck in the shipping cost + delivery delay vortex. 'Tis the season, UGH.

I thought I'd share a simple DD prep for anyone feeling overwhelmed with their stash/unhappy with this year's price increase and trying to get more creative with what they already have. I'm sure many of you have already done this but just in case someone needed a reminder... DD prep: Topsy-TurvyOften, we look at the scrap supplies we already own and try to comb through them, sans direction or precise end goals. It can absolutely work but it'll take some time, vision and a lot of patience. A different way to tackle the mountain of crafty stuff is to look at it from the other side: what exactly are you looking for? This is the aim of today's exercise: figuring out precisely what you need and focusing on meeting those needs. To start, take a piece of paper, a pen and a seat. We are staying far away from the supplies at first! First, we'll answer some big questions and just let our thinking do the work. (If needed, grab more sheets of paper as you're penning things down.) Ask yourself these basic questions to begin with: 1. For my 2019 December documenting, which precise events do I already know I'll be keeping a memory of in my album? You don't have to know the exact dates for each but just what they are. Think of school plays, a cinema outing (Frozen 2 will be released in late autumn), Christmas party at work/school/organisation or charity you're part of, Christmas Eve with your in-laws, Christmas Day at home with your own family etc. 2. Which December traditions do I already know I want to document? Think about picking up + decorating the tree, a holiday beverage at Starbucks, an outing to the city or local mall to see the window displays, wrapping the gifts, the Advent calendar, home décor, Christmas morning pyjamas, etc. 3. Which and how many photos per event? Take your old DD/JYC albums/LOs and look to see if you gravitate naturally towards a certain format for certain events and traditions. Do you usually take horizontal photos at the Christmas play at your kids' school? Do you like to blow up a bokeh photo of your Christmas tree lit up? Do you stick to smaller photos for your office Christmas party because you're just grabbing some on your phone in a not-so-greatly lit room? This is the part where we figure out how much space will likely be allocated to each memory in the album and the type of page protector we're most likely to use.
Once you've scribbled all of this down, the colourful fun begins! We're going to do some colour-coding. Get your highlighters or coloured pens and start by associating each colour with a Christmas aesthetic and/or embellishment type. Categories you may consider: gift-shaped embellishments (or gift pattern paper), tree-shaped embellishments (or tree pattern paper), 3x4 PL card, grinchy/grumpy sentiment, star embellishment (or start pattern paper), bows, etc. You're allowed to colour-code an event with different ideas/options in mind. This is about getting a good feel of how many embellishments, chipboard pieces about the magic of Christmas (or whatever), etc. you realistically need to finish this album, not about stunting your creativity or sense of improvisation and fun. Take a fresh piece of paper and write down a list of actual supplies you need to make this year's album happen: a handful of star embellishments + a star pattern paper, at least 3 gift-shaped embellishments (dimensional and flat), at least one large tree embellishments, gold embossing powder that is fine enough to work with smaller-sized sentiment stamps, stamp sentiment that says "Currently watching" and "Currently eating/drinking", X amount of page protectors with all 3x4 slots, etc. Just figure it out as a general guide. No need to fuss and be super precise! If you really like to add written sentiments to your pages, consider keeping track of the amount of sentiments you'd need in whichever form (PL card, chipboard piece, die-cut, stamp) through a key word system ('magic', 'Santa', 'city', 'family', 'snow' and so on).
Give yourself a much-needed and deserved break. And when you're up for it, go shopping (your stash, obviously)! Try putting together a cohesive kit using your chipboard pieces, ephemera packs, papers and whatnot. Fill your kit and cross items off as you go. Allow yourself to mix up styles and perhaps even make two or three different kits if you like it this way: a vintage Christmas kit, a bright and colourful kit, a modern minimalist kit, etc.
It's a lot of work, especially if you have a large amount of stuff but...

I had considered buying a kit this year but I haven't loved anything enough to take the plunge so I'll be in the using my stash camp. I placed an order last week and added this Pink Paislee paper which I'm thinking I'll pair with pale pink and the leftover navy scraps from Pinkfresh's line last year to make my own kit. I had been waiting to see the full reveal of Ali's albums but I don't love them enough to pay the asking price, and I ordered the FJ grey polka dot album in the recent sale for an undetermined future project so will just use that. Honestly, I kind of love using my stash on this project.

I was hoping someone cleverer then me was going to post the KP sneaks, should have known our dear sleepingbooty was on the case! Aren’t they divine? I love the one about bingeing baking shows being an act of self care. Yep, anything I kind of thought was cute from Ali just went right out the window. KP has knocked it out of the park. Those colors are to die for!!!! She was smart to release such a good sneak right before Ali is set to release her overpriced and sure to crash the server kits. KP and FYC are getting all my disposable income for DD this year. I don’t do my album until after Christmas I may just tell my husband to order me all the things and wrap it up under the tree. There is not a blessed thing I need or want and he has a hard time shopping for me. This may be just the ticket.

This is useful, beautiful and definitely a "sparks joy" item. I'm on board with you asking for this under the tree this year! She was smart to release such a good sneak right before Ali is set to release her overpriced and sure to crash the server kits. Very smart. Perfectly timed. I'm impressed. There is enough to see to make us salivate and focus all our attention on her offer. Gold star for KP. nicolep Totally agree. If I'm spending any DD cash this year, it'll be with one of the indies and Crate Paper if I like their line. Album from Simple Stories. Boom, done.

I love sleepingbooty 's idea of starting w/"what do I want" and then finding it/making it from my stash and tools. In my JYC, I will make a few pages for some traditions that aren't in there yet: 1. A cookie party we go to every year (probably using snow & cocoa stuff) 2. A holiday fair we go to almost every year (using more traditional PL cards or the EP ephemera) 3. One or two pages on my childhood holiday memories BUT, I always end up picking up a few things. That's OK. As long as I get them for a good price and they give me a little something new to play with. Like everything in life, it's a balance that often works best.

I probably told this story last year but I’m telling it again. When I was around 12, my mom bought this super market cookie recipe book put out by some manufacturer like pillsbury or something. We made all of the cookies in the book and it was such a fun memory. I could only remember one kind of cookie, jammy Fantasia. So I just googled and found the recipe! So this one goes on my holiday baking list! My sil used to bake us treats and ship them to us from Texas. Last year she couldn’t because my brother was sick, and he died on the 22nd of December. I think maybe this year I’ll take over the baking tradition and mail her a box of treats instead. Her kids and grandkids would love that too. www.smuckers.com/recipes/jammy-fantasia-bars-1010
