Hi team! joyfulnana , DawnMcD , teacherlisa , cristelina , linda , AussieMeg , ComplicatedLady , Tammiem2pnc1 , @calimom2 , buggirl47 , sleepingbooty , ABCreations, lynnek , scrappykimba , Dictionary , mom , yamscraps Not to exclude the other team...you are welcome to chime in!
In previous months, we've had chats both in the PM area, and here on the boards. I feel like people like the ability to quote/like/edit that is here, and not in the PM section, so I've chosen to post this on the boards. And really, this doesn't need to be private (oooh, espionage by the Gems, yikes!)
I'm hoping in this thread to
- keep some chit chat going about daily life! Love hearing what peas are up to. - ask/answer any questions about challenges...all can ask, all can answer - encourage each other to just keep scrapping! I've been a pokey pea the past 3 months, and aim to rev it up this month, and complete ALL the sketches. I will need some encouragement I think! - remind you all that there is absolutely zero pressure to come up with big points. We're here for community and encouragement, nothing to win or lose
So, what I'd love to hear is: - do you plan to tackle the sketches? All? Some? Or not up your alley? - do you have a goal this month? A project in mind?
- how is daily life treating you? What things are foremost in your life right now?
In my mind today: middle DS starts college Tuesday, youngest DD is back to school (grade 11) : raising monarchs. Had a crysalis death yesterday that was my fault and haven't got over it yet . Had another crysalis hatch after we went to bed and it fell and now it is crippled forever. Hence, we now have a pet monarch with itty bitty wings that will not fly

Thanks for being our team leader kitbop - btw to tag me it's @ homeschoolmum not @ linda Sorry about your chrysalis death and the crippled monarch - hatching butterflies isn't for the faint of heart. - do you plan to tackle the sketches? All? Some? Or not up your alley?I do aim to tackle all the sketches - I love sketches!! - do you have a goal this month? A project in mind? Mostly to get back into scrapping after a two and half month hiatus. I'm hoping to finish up DS's Mainland Japan travel album though - how is daily life treating you? What things are foremost in your life right now? We're watching Dorian...DD19 is home from UCF as it is closed for Dorian. Dh drove down to pick her up Friday - not quite 3hrs down and more than 6 hrs back due to evacuation traffic. Our area is a staging area for power company equipment in preparation for post-storm so there are hundreds of trucks in town - our fairgrounds is full of them.

I do not have a plan to do the sketches, but I will look at them and if they catch my fancy I will use them.
I have two unfinished projects on my desk this month that are oh so close to finishing...I hope to finish them I also have a fairly new ipad i want to play with scrapbooking on.
Life is treating me well here. We are still under heat advisories here in AZ, yet my office is so cold that I have to wear a jacket lol. We are gearing up for a shift change at work ( I am a 911 dispatcher and we work 12 hr shifts). I am staying on the same shift, but am changing days off (for the better) so I will be adjusting to that.

I'm sorry to hear about your monarch's kitbop That must be a very interesting hobby though! linda stay safe! It sounds like you aren't in the direct path, is that right? I am going to take on as many of the sketches as I can manage. I don't think I did any last year (except my own lol) I know I won't get them all finished as I'm just not that quick a scrapper even with a sketch lol. Life is pretty good, work is slowing down yay!! I work in the RV industry and summer is the busy time of year for me. So I look forward to fall and the cooler weather. Video scrapped with my niece for a couple hours today so that was a nice change of pace.

Bummers on your butterflies, I appreciate anyone who takes the care to help them on their way. DH and I went to visit the Monarchs in Capitola and shocked to find out how many have decreased over the years, I came home and planted plenty of milkweed. My garden is already tripleB friendly.
Now back to our reg scheduled program
1- do you plan to tackle the sketches? All? Some? Or not up your alley? 2- do you have a goal this month? A project in mind? 3- how is daily life treating you? What things are foremost in your life right now?
1. - I say I plan to tackle all the sketches, but reality says I won't..hahaha 2. My goal is just to finish anything and everything I can. I was an avid card maker right up until end of May now my blog hosts crickets and I haven't scrapped a thing. 3. Right now sewing is my foremost thing. I attend second Saturdays for a local art show and sell kids stuff. As I attend I find things I need to add like right now are bibs, burp cloths, glass cases and wine totes so have half of all those done and working on the other half. I am not employed anymore as I ahem took an early retirement (very long story) and while I enjoy staying home you'd think I'd have more time to do all those things you'll say you'll do but don't. Until now..lol

I am going to take on as many of the sketches as I can manage. I honestly have the same thought process...but last year got swept up in the ease of using sketches and since we were given a 1 week extension to get them done at the end I was able to get them all done! So my goal this year...well...gotta reach for the stars Even tho I know I probably won't! I have faith in Linda however Glad you have DD out of harm's way tho!

joyfulnana - thank you - I suspect we'll just get some wind and rain here but I've been praying for those who aren't as fortunate Dictionary - your craft show sewing sounds super - I love to sew but my motivation ebbs and flows so I don't think I would do well sewing for a living - I do sew for charity sometimes - just finished up 2 dozen ditty bags (drawstring bags) for a local church - they fill them with toileties etc... for distribution kitbop - I love sketches and keep going back and re-visiting last year's Sketchtember ones as well as the Sketchy Saturday ones so I'm glad to have the prospect of 30 new sketches for inspiration

Hey everyone!
- do you plan to tackle the sketches? All? Some? Or not up your alley? I will probably do one or two but I doubt I do all of them.
- do you have a goal this month? A project in mind? My goal this month is to get caught up on PL (July & August). I also want to make a mini album for a trip to Malibu we took last October.
- how is daily life treating you? What things are foremost in your life right now? Things are ok. We are newly empty-nesters so life is taking some time figuring out this chapter. Right now, we are just living life. Mid Sept we have a trip to see DS2 at A&M so we are looking forward to that.

My goal this month is to get caught up on PL (July & August) I could have guessed this from the challenges you set! I copied them to my printable list of challenges, but was thinking "well, there's 2 I won't get points from!" Glad you set some challenges to help you focus on your goals!

Is there one thread where all challenges are posted? Yes, and please add your own if you want! Here is the link: challenge threadgrammadee usually "closes" the list to new challenges on the 3rd of the month (so you've got some time if you need to think. But if you wait too long you'll find somebody else will post a similar challenge! And you do get to claim a point for every challenge that you post), and then some kind pea (last month it was gramma) creates a spreadsheet or master list that you can print out for reference. I know peas each have their own way of keeping track of their points. I complete a layout, then use my master list to see which challenges I inadvertently fulfilled, and add up my points I write the total on the back of the layout because otherwise I immediately forget And don't forget to claim a point just for making a layout/card/project, and a point if you share it on the board!

Taking a break from scrapping because it's almost 8pm and the family hasn't been fed yet - oops (we did have a late lunch and we often don't eat until 7/730 or later so I've not actually starved them yet) kitbop - I also add up points after finishing a layout but then I add the points to the thread to keep track. The first couple of days when challenges are still open are always a challenge because I'm already creating and then I have to go back and add up points for multiple layouts- yikes

Hi All!
I am looking so forward to participating! I love sketches so I am going to try to do a lot of those. Hopefully at least three a week.
My goal for the month is mostly to just get in the grove of scrapping again. I kind of have been floundering this year, not sure if I want to change up my PL, or the sizes of regular pages I do, take a stab at TN, I just can’t decide. So, I have done basically nothing as a result. So, I just want to jump in and scrap. We traveled to New York at the beginning of the year so I may try to work on an album for that.
Daily life is busy, but we are getting in a school year mode. My oldest (21) is living back at home while changing up paths for his college study. My DD is 15 and crazy busy with all sorts of high school activities. Only something like 50 days before she gets her license and I can’t wait to be off shuttle duty for her. My youngest (11) is getting ready to play fall baseball coached by my husband and oldest son. He also just decided to switch instruments in band from trumpet to drums. 😀

it'll depend on how you're adding them, I think A plug for Flickr. Despite their recent changes and money grabbing subscriptions (I ONLY use the free capacity, I ONLY use it for the MB here!) I have chosen the Flickr route. It's so easy to upload, then copy to the MB at size "medium". That way, I also don't worry about filling up the capacity of the MB like we have before. I also really like zooming in on peas layouts to see details, and you can't do that with a direct upload. And, I love our 2peas gallery, and it's on flickr, so it's easy to add your photos to the gallery. I guess I'm encouraging peas to use Flickr for *my* enjoyment not sure if I want to change up my PL, or the sizes of regular pages I do, take a stab at TN, I am intrigued by TN, but I know it wouldn't satisfy me with event or daily life documentation. It wouldn't take enough photos, let me use bigger photos when there was something special, and it would frustrate me trying to scrap in chronological order. If it were a discrete trip or something I would definitely give it a go - Like your trip to NY. Maybe you could try something new for that trip and see how it feels? A different size or a TN? Oh, and drums? Have fun!

kitbop, thanks for being our fearless leader! do you plan to tackle the sketches? All? Some? Or not up your alley?I am usually not a sketch person, but I want to give some of them a try this September do you have a goal this month? A project in mind? I made a junk journal many years ago. I plan to use some of it for Shimelle's learn something new in September. I also want to keep up with my little first year of retirement album how is daily life treating you? What things are foremost in your life right now?Life is certainly different. I am a teacher (oops... that would be WAS a teacher) so retirement didn't hit me until August 19th-the first day of school in my district. Big change. Foremost in my mind is how and what to create for Teachers Pay Teachers. Lots of stuff to consider.

I am a journaler so that is one problem for me with TN’s I need more space to write, but I would like to try one somehow, sometime.

I am going to do as many of the sketches as I can. Sketches are the best motivation for me. So far I have done 4 out of 5. I know that I won't get all of them done - it's just too hard to fit in around full time work. I'll be happy if I get 20 done. Unfortunately the weather is turning bad for the weekend, but maybe that's not unfortunate at all - being stuck inside will give me plenty of time to scrap. I could have guessed this from the challenges you set! I copied them to my printable list of challenges, but was thinking "well, there's 2 I won't get points from!" Glad you set some challenges to help you focus on your goals! LOL Not even gonna lie. Totally what I did! I never get much done but atleast if I get those done, the points will add up! I was excited when I saw those challenges, so thank you!! I was the opposite to kitbop - I was thinking "Well there's 2 that I WILL get points from!"

I've almost equalled my august production in the first 5 days of September, so this"sketchtember" thing obviously works for me!!!
Christmas: I have so much Christmas to scrap but have such a hard time doing it. Why? Anyone want to posit a theory? I love Christmas supplies and have lots...
Cards: I have many people who would benefit from a card right now. But I cannot find any mojo for cards. Ever. Anyone got a solution?
|
|
|
Post by Linda on Sept 5, 2019 23:33:38 GMT
kitbop - I find Christmas hard to scrap because there's SO much of it and it gets overwhelming plus the colours in the photos don't always work with my supplies and I get tired of Christmas long before I'm done scrapping it. I think for me...I need to split it into smaller chunks and not try to get it all scrapped at one time AND I need to print fewer photos (although with my kids growing up that part may happen on its own). Of course I find the season a bit overwhelming anyway (scrapping aside). As for cards - I often find a sketch or a card to scraplift with a fairly simple design and make several with that design but perhaps different papers or colours - using up scraps. If you're mostly looking to send a card and not stress about making one - do you have a photo you've taken that you just love? or a great flower/butterfly/scenery shot? print out a dozen copies, attach to a card blank, and call it good
