I posted this thread back in June 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/94066/ugh-house-backExtra kid moved out a week and a half ago, just before DS moved out. I never did make him pay rent. I figured he could use the money and we didn't need it. He is now paying rent at a friend of ours house. I think it will be a better situation all around as here he was more like my kid than a tenant. There he gets to be even more of an adult. So today I am sitting in his old room trying to figure out what I want to do with the place. We are still paying his cell phone. I would think he would say thank you, but I'll pay it anyway. At least for a year unless he tries to rack up a large bill.

I’ve discovered over the years in spite of being the notorious not scrapbook related, there are some damned nice and caring people on here. You’d be one of them. Thank you.

We had a student live with us a couple of years ago (different circumstances than yours) and while I almost never got a thank you at the time, I'm hoping that in a few years with more maturity they will appreciate all we did. It really changes the dynamics to add someone to your family. You have done a wonderful thing to help him start down the path to adulthood. He was lucky to have you and hopefully one day he will come to understand all you did and will appreciate it. Thank you!

You are so very kind to help him out. Somewhere down the road, I hope that he comes back and thank you for helping him. And I hope that if you need help that he will be there for you.

He'll remember the kindness and when he tells his kids about you, it will be in fondness. Waiting for thank yous from kids who don't belong to you can be far and in between. Some of my kids' friends thank us for every little thing and others seem to find it more difficult.
Maybe he is hoping is he doesn't talk about it, he'll keep the phone for a free year.
