Can any Peas help me out with some information about the UW-Madison campus? I was wondering what chain coffee shops/casual restaurants were within walking distance of campus? A great young man who is a family friend is working with the FOCUS ministry at the St. Paul's Catholic Center on campus. I want to support him in his ministry by sending him a few gift cards for local coffee shops/casual restaurants, rather than just simply sending a check. I had thought Starbucks and Panera were pretty universal on college campuses, but wanted to check. Thanks!!

Can't you just google map it? I know Starbucks is, but definitely NOT Panera. Both my girls go to college in different areas, and neither has a Panera. Starbucks and subway though!

The campus area is getting more chains but for a long time there was not much. There is an Ancora and a Starbucks on State Street. Also a Noodles and Co. There are a number of fast food places in the Lucky building a block or two from St Paul's.

Maybe contact the school directly. They could give you ideas.

Just FYI "walking distance" in terms of the UW campus is kind of a loose term. Campus covers most of the Isthmus. What is convenient kind of depends on where you live. The closest Panera is down University Avenue, which, while on the bus route, is not walking distance for most folks on campus.

There's a Panera on West Washington and Regent, which is not RIGHT on campus, but it's two blocks from Park & Regent, where one of the newer dorms is. Starbucks is fine; I think there's one just two blocks from the Catholic Center, if the map is accurate. There is a Noodles & Co., QDoba and Chipotle. Buffalo Wild Wings. There's a local place called Nitty Gritty-- it's a bar, but it's an "iconic" place for birthdays and their food is decent.

The Gritty is just OK - The Great Dane Pub is much better. But if you are looking for chains within walking distance of St. Paul's Parish (which is on State Street), State Street is the place to go. Off the top of my head, there's Qdoba, Chipotle, Noodles and Co., Wendy's, Jimmy Johns, and Starbucks.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Trader Joes near there too; depending on what part of campus we are discussing.
