Update: the teacher said the word should have been slit. Any spelling word I ever had on a grade 1 spelling test. My daughter brought this home tonight. ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190924/8e6e568b0a6ba275becc9e16507f0680.jpg)

There is no other possible meaning for that word. ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/surprise.jpg.gif) I want one of the kids to ask her to use it in a sentence.

Iām assuming itās some type of auto generated list or something? I canāt imagine it was intentional. Still seems kinda glaringly obvious though! Lol

I would probably be the mom that told my kid I had no idea what that word meant and then ask my kid to ask the teacher during class. Then I would sit at home giggling like a cartoon hyena thinking about how she is going to handle this. Lol

I didn't see it at first, mostly because I thought I was looking for another choice "it" word.... then it jumped out at me! ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png)

ššš Canāt wait for spelling test day when the teacher has to use it in a sentence when she says it out loud. Hereās a fun one to play... the teacher makes up one sentence for the end of the test that uses many of the spelling list words in it as is reasonable. Usually about five or so words. So, for the āat familyā the test sentence might be something like, āthe fat cat sat on the mat with a ratā. So this list could be quite entertaining in that way too. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

Oh my goodness, that is just crazy that she didnāt see that. I donāt think that was teacher generated though, but she still should have read it. Is she a first year teacher? This is why you donāt ask children to rhyme certain words and you need to be careful with word families. Never ask a child to rhyme sit, witch, luck, etc.

One day when he and his sister were toddlers I decided to sing the Name Game with our names. Got through my husband, me, and my daughter just fine. Got to my son Luckyās name and had to abruptly stop halfway through it. š¤¦āāļøš¤. We have never played that game again. š

It jumped right out at me. My mind is always in the gutter. That aside, the bonus list is just bizarre for first graders. Exposit?

And for first graders, Iām thinking ākittenā or āmittenā might be more appropriate. And actually, kitten would fit with the theme from the mono-syllable list...

I'm not even sure how to use it, to tell the truth. With that said, our 3rd-5th graders do learn 'expository' when we're teaching different types of writing.

Thesaurus won't even search. Dictionary calls it a vulgar word with no definition. So - no way out of this one.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when one of those kids says " What does that word mean Miss Smith"?

Looks like the teacher didn't actually read the word list.
I'd message her immediately to give her the heads up.
I would not be happy as a parent, but would definitely like to see how she remedies the situation.

Seems like some randomly generated list that the teacher didn't even check! Because unless she's trying to get a reprimand, or worse, she surely couldn't have written this herself. Clearly she didn't read it though. And that bonus list is ridiculous for 1st graders. Teachers at my school often give a "menu" of activities along with the new words at the beginning of every week, and the kids can choose one activity each day to work on. One of them is, of course, "write at least five sentences using at least five words". um...
