Pinterest - don't know how to use, or have accounts with any other site....

I have both Instagram and Pinterest. I love the Pinterest idea, I follow many peas already too. Pinterest would be much easier to organize. Also, one of the things I hate about Instagram is the feed being one photo at a time, I love that the pinterest feed is many smaller size photos, especially since I mainly use my phone app.

NoWomanNoCry it looks like Pinterest is a go. We should probably let this thread run for a couple more days before doing anything to see if anyone throws out an even better idea. In the meantime I'll PM you to sort out some details

Pinterest! Would it be possible to have a link to it from this site? You know. So I remember to check it out, whenever I am here?

Flickr would be my first choice but Pinterest works too and seems to be the majority vote. Ditto here. Flickr has been around for a long time, I've used it for years, and isn't a trend that might go away again in a couple years. Even better, you can tag your photos (so we could tag them "twopeasrefugees" or what have you) and drop them into the group yourself, so the individuals just have to join instead of constantly being added to the account. The owners also retain control over the photos should they decide to take them down or edit something at some point. I use Flickr as a backup to store a lot of my photographs and they're so reliable I would encourage us to use them rather than Pinterest. Sometimes it's difficult to figure out what a source is from Pinterest--when things are pinned, notes are edited and information is lost about the layout--who made it, what was used, etc--and Flickr allows you to retain all of that.

I originally would have agreed with you, but I've been persuaded that Pinterest is a better option, for several reasons. 1 - Even if we had a Flickr group, I wouldn't want it to be completely open to anyone, so members would still have to be added to it. Pinterest users can remove pins they've added to a group board, so there's no loss of control there. 2 - I don't think source attribution is as much of a problem in this case, as members would only be pinning their own work, either uploading straight into Pinterest, or pinning directly from the original source. We'd also have guidelines to encourage best practice in putting info in the pin 3 - Pinterest also offers an opportunity to attract new members to join our boards here, and hopefully keep this GS board thriving. I don't think that Flickr offers the same kind of easy way to draw in other like-minded individuals. This for me is the strongest argument. I'll be back with some more discussion points soon

I don't think that Flickr offers the same kind of easy way to draw in other like-minded individuals. This for me is the strongest argument. I'll be back with some more discussion points soon I'm sorry I understand Pinterest is more popular right now, but sometimes we also need to look at what's going to endure and be there five years from now so we don't lose all of that history again like when we lost Two Peas. I think one of Flickr's biggest points is that you can tag them and search the tags so even if they are all in one group there is still some organization to them--having everyone dump all layouts on one board sounds overwhelming to me. And that's the second thing Flickr has going for it, I think--Flickr keeps things separate when you log on--our individual follows go down the main front and the groups are off to the side. I don't want to log onto Pinterest and see ONLY scrapbooking stuff miles long, and all the other people's boards I follow get lost. If the group on Pinterest continues to grow then the amount of layouts posted would continue to increase, which would overwhelm the main page. There is no way to tag on Pinterest right now or create sub-boards (which would be amazing if they finally did sub-boards!). There is a board with the top boards and some of them have 300k+ pins on their group. Now that would probably take years to handle, but even having a smaller number, like 100 layouts a day, could quickly overwhelm the main board. I've had people who pin like crazy and I unfollow them because I want a little bit of everything from everyone I follow, not one person who is going to pin 300 pins a week on a subject, no matter how much I like that subject. That's my biggest concern with using Pinterest. If there's a way to avoid having the group board show on my main page, then that would resolve that issue, but so far the only way I know to not have something to show up the main board is to make a secret board. (Would anyone know if something like that can be done?--to follow/join a group without it overwhelming your main page?)

I do believe a secret board can be made and people invited to it. I'm not 100% on this though. Again I was just originally tossing ideas out. If someone has other ideas that's great! Whatever is best for everyone else and whatever admin feels is best.

My reason for preferring Flickr over Pinterest is because I don't want to have to Pin my layouts to yet another board to share them... because I already have a scrapbooking board, and a board that I only Pin my own work to. I would prefer not to have to Pin a layout a second or third time to share it with the RefuPeas, too.
But I understand Pinterest is a popular choice.

I share secret boards with my sister, mom, and even one with my coworkers. What I'm curious about is if you can join a board and have it not show up in your feed so your feed isn't overwhelmed by that one group.

I love the Pinterest idea. Was wondering if we would be able to filter within the Refugee board to see only layouts by a particular Refugee? I'm thinking their search might allow it to work that way, but I haven't tried it to see.

I love the Pinterest idea. Was wondering if we would be able to filter within the Refugee board to see only layouts by a particular Refugee? I'm thinking their search might allow it to work that way, but I haven't tried it to see. If they include a hashtag when they upload it? #refupeajudyc for example. I don't know, just wondering if that would work. I don't post to galleries but enjoy looking at them so I'm only coming from that perspective. I would maybe post, say, photos of my SB organization or something though. Another plus to Pinterest is to those of having blogs or other sites we'd love more visitors to, Pinterest would lead our fellow refupeas there I like what admin said, too, about gaining more traffic to this board through Pinterest. I've been thinking about it and honestly if it's at Flickr, I won't visit it. I'm already on Pinterest everyday, I know how to use and view Pinterest, don't have to log in to yet another place, etc. So if there's a way to make Pinterest work, I hope we go with that.

I have to admit I'm not at all sure which way to go yet! There are pros and cons to both, and neither is a perfect solution. Ideally of course, we'd have our own custom gallery, just like we did at the bucket. I even bought a refupeas domain (during Boardgate!) that we could use, but the problem is the hosting. Image galleries are resource intensive - lots of server space, lots of bandwidth - which means they're also relatively expensive, so that's a no-go Whatever we do, I'll make sure there is an easy link from here (and whatever instructions are necessary). I also am determined that even if we end up using Flickr, we need to have some kind of presence on Pinterest, and I have a couple of ideas on how that might work. I need to spend a little more time looking at exactly how both work so I can lay it out for you all as clearly as possible. When I'm able to do that I'll start another thread to get more input from you all before making a decision. Hopefully that thread will be posted at the weekend, but if it takes a little longer please be patient with me
