I have a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. I absolutely love it. It is great for windy country roads and every type of weather.
I had a Honda Odyssey van for 10 years. The Traverse is only 2 inches wider and longer. I had no problem adapting to driving it.

It is so smooth to drive and handles like a much smaller car - the turning radius is amazingly tight.

I love my new 2019 RAV4 Hybrid. I get 40 miles to the gallon. It’s a fabulous car Agree-- we love ours too. If you need to have power to tow something you will need to research though.

I love my Subaru. It’s a smaller version - the Crosstrek - but it’s been super reliable with lots of great features.

We traded in a 2004 Honda Pilot (which I LOVED) for a 2019 Toyota Highlander. I didn't think I could love a car more than my Pilot but I do. The Highlander drives like a dream and has so much leg room my 6' 2" DH and DS can't believe it. In the Pilot I always had to pull my seat way up for DS to sit behind me. I don't have to adjust the seat in the Highlander at all. Another Toyota Highlander owner. We just bought a new 2019. love it!! there is so much room, esp in the back seats. It drives great, and I love how it is handling so far.

My mom has this and it's fun to drive. My aunt has owned different Nissan Pathfinders for several years and I know she's been happy.

We recently had to replace my beloved Honda Odyssey minivan. More than a decade of hauling stuff and kids and groceries, plus quite a few road trips...it was bittersweet to let it go (part of that was coming to terms with the fact that we really don't need a minivan anymore, with youngest kid in college). Anyway, I had to be convinced that something like a small SUV would be a good replacement. We ended up getting a 2019 Santa Fe and I LOVE it! Could not be happier with it! I also test drove a CR-V and didn't like it at all, so it was an easy choice.

I have a Subaru Forester, and I do love it. It is a great car for winter driving. I am in the northeast and work a 2nd shift job, where I can’t call out, even if we are having major snowstorms. Going home at night is often dicey and to get to my condo I have hills. This has been a game changer to my commute, and well worth the downfalls of the vehicle. The back seats do not fold flat, so while okay cargo space, I am sure there is better options if that is crucial. I have a roof rack if absolutely necessary, but have access to trucks if i have something really large to transport, so again that didn’t really play a part in my decision. It is not the smoothest riding car, but again I revert to the great winter handling as the more important option. Good luck with your purchase. Buying a car is like sticking 1000 needles in my eye as far as I am concerned. The seats on my Forester fold flat

Subaru and Toyota are good vehicles, but are expensive overall. The Honda Pilot is a great car and gives you overall the bigger bang for your buck. I would buy another if and when I decide I need a new vehicle.

My parents have a 2018, I'll have to check theirs out. There is just enough of an incline that to push something long in is kind of wonky.
The other thing that I hope they have changed is there is no obvious hash mark for the "5s" on the speedometer. It goes by 2's and they are tiny. My old eyes can't tell actually how fast I am going sometimes.

I love my Acura MDX. If you felt that was too big, I’d look at the RDX. Hinds reliability with just an extra bit of cush.

My mom has had a couple Santa Fe's over the years and has always been happy with them. She has a Tucson now. They're both nice driving cars. I have a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. It's very comfortable, but probably a little smaller than you want. I haven't driven a full size Outlander. I am not the hugest fan of the CVT transmission though. I wish I could have everything else about my car, but with a regular automatic transmission (and maybe a turbo, but I really don't need the speeding tickets). It does have paddle shifters, so I can switch it to "manual" made (I say manual very loosely ), but it does give a little more control and I can take off quicker when I need to.

I would buy another if and when I decide I need a new vehicle. The Pilot base price is less than $800 difference from the Highlander. The Pilot is great though, my other SIL has one and I’ve always been a comfortable passenger

I downsized from a Tahoe to a Ford Edge two years ago. I’m surprised no one has mentioned this one yet. I was looking at a Lincoln, but for the money the Ford was a much better value, and I still got a luxury interior and all of the features I wanted. My mechanic kept recommending the Edge, and I really love it.
We’ve taken a couple of road trips in it, all the way from So Cal to Canada last summer, and it was very comfortable for 4 adults with lots of stuff.

Thanks for all the input, ladies. We plan on test driving a few this weekend, though I kind of want to wait a bit. 2020 models should be out soon, I think, so even more to consider. I'm not a fan of car shopping......

We're SUV fans too. We like the Nissan Rogue - smaller and cute, but engine could use a little pep. I wish they still made the Toyota Venza. It was one of the first crossovers and such a great car. Love the RDX, although I think Acura's navigation system stinks. They've been slow to adapt to CarPlay as well. If I were going to buy today, I would probably go with a Toyota Highlander.

I'm not a fan of car shopping...... The good thing about that is you can get a good deal on a new 2019 as the dealerships start getting 2020's. I also forgot to mention that you can't go wrong with Hyundai's (and Kia's I believe) warranty. My son "lucked" (not the word I'm looking for really) into a deal on a 2019 Hyundai Kona several months ago when my Dad passed away. It's a great car. I drove it from Omaha to Denver, and other than the speeding ticket I got, it was a comfortable ride.

I would buy either of them.

My sister had a Santa Fe that she liked well enough, and I considered that several years ago when I was car shopping. We ended up getting a Ford Escape. It worked out so well for me that when we were looking to trade up, I got another one in 2017. I went from Volvos to a Ford Freestyle in 2004 (or 2005; can't recall!), and LOVEDDDDDDDDDDDD it!! It had all of the bells and whistles and the price was incredible. Great handling and no problems. I'd love to go back to a Ford (small) SUV if they're still decent!

Thanks Peas! I'm just checking out the 2019 Ford Edge SEL, and I'm in love!!! Looks a lot like the Ford I had 15 years ago. I'm used to excellent gas mileage though (28 city/34 highway) with my 2017 Nissan Altima...... Can't have everything.
Good luck to anyone getting a new SUV. Come back and tell us what you ended up getting. (I'm bookmarking this thread for whenever we get another car!).

My car was getting repairs a couple of weeks ago and the rental they gave us was a BMW X3 ... it was a lot of fun to drive I'm not sure if that is in your price range, but if it is, check it out
