My car was getting repairs a couple of weeks ago and the rental they gave us was a BMW X3 ... it was a lot of fun to drive I'm not sure if that is in your price range, but if it is, check it out I had a BMW X5 for years and LOVED it. Special ordered it, and had a blast. I also had a Volvo XC90 that my sister STILL has after I sold it to her many years ago. Both great cars. Love what I have now too.

I'm very pleased with our Chevy Equinox. Plenty of room and lots of extras on it like heated seats and remote start! It's my 2nd Equinox and I'd get another when the time comes.

I downsized from a Tahoe to a Ford Edge two years ago. I’m surprised no one has mentioned this one yet. I was looking at a Lincoln, but for the money the Ford was a much better value, and I still got a luxury interior and all of the features I wanted. My mechanic kept recommending the Edge, and I really love it. We’ve taken a couple of road trips in it, all the way from So Cal to Canada last summer, and it was very comfortable for 4 adults with lots of stuff. I loved my Edge and had it for 10 yrs. But to get the bells and whistles bi wanted I went with my Forester Sport. I cried when I said goodbye to Ruby. She moved all my kids to college, home and out on their own again.

We rented one this summer when we were in Seattle and it was a very nice car but I wouldn’t consider it to be a smaller vehicle. It’s quite a bit bigger than the Escape.

Love my Honda CRV. I have had it for over two years. Every time I get in it I still love it.

I have a BMW X3. I absolutley LOVE it! It's getting time for a new one and I'll for sure being sticking with BMW - Probably another X3, but maybe an X5. I just can't decide if I need more room We have also owned a Land Rover in the past. Like that car too, but once it was out of warranty, it was a fortune to maintain!

I hate the car buying process, as well
Love my 2013 CRV, before that I had a Civic for 8 years, a used Toyota station wagon (it had been in an accident-salesman had lied-and the AC was damaged), a Caravan minivan, & an Element that lasted 11 years & over 169k miles & probably would have lasted longer than ds not been the principle driver for its last 3 years.
I love Hondas. Love my dealership. We once had the CRV, the Element & the Ridgeline truck at the same time.
The CRV gets good mileage, is comfortable, and is big enough for my 2 labs to fit in the back seat. The youngest lab prefers to ride shotgun, but will share the back. It’s not so big as to be a hassle parking, either.

Best thing we did when car buying was to attend an auto show. All the makers had their newest model cars on display. No real sales people as you couldn't actually buy a car there. We could sit in a Honda, Ford, Audi, Toyota, etc and go back to ones we wanted to reconsider. It was so nice to have so many makes under one roof. Once we narrowed down our decision then we went to dealerships and did test drives.

I have a new Nissan Rogue with the pro pilot assist—a lot of safety features since I have macular degeneration. I’m ver happy with it. My husband has a 4Runner. We like it, but I prefer the smaller Rogue.

I test drove the Lincoln version of the Escape, and it was too much of a size jump for me going from the Tahoe. Maybe something smaller next time!

Thanks for all the input, ladies. We plan on test driving a few this weekend, though I kind of want to wait a bit. 2020 models should be out soon, I think, so even more to consider. I'm not a fan of car shopping...... I will echo what someone else said- incentives are fantastic on the 2019s right now. Dealerships will have to get rid of the new 2019s when the 2020s arrive. Budget would have a lot to do with narrowing down my search. Warranty is a big one, too. Volkswagen has a 6 yr/72K miles warranty for 2018 and 2019 but going to 4 yr/50K miles for 2020. Good luck!

I love my new 2019 RAV4 Hybrid. I get 40 miles to the gallon. It’s a fabulous car Agree-- we love ours too. If you need to have power to tow something you will need to research though. We just replaced my car with a 2019 rav4. I’m really loving it. Don’t go older than 2019 if you need air vents for the back seats though.

We traded in a 2004 Honda Pilot (which I LOVED) for a 2019 Toyota Highlander. I didn't think I could love a car more than my Pilot but I do. The Highlander drives like a dream and has so much leg room my 6' 2" DH and DS can't believe it. In the Pilot I always had to pull my seat way up for DS to sit behind me. I don't have to adjust the seat in the Highlander at all. We are on our 3rd Highlander, both of our current vehicles are Highlanders. Dark grey and light silver. I actually wanted the new one to be the same dark grey but DH was not on board DH is 6’5” so that is always our first concern when car buying. And we travel a lot for his triathlons, and don’t travel light so even though it is just the 2 of us we really need and appreciate the space in the Highlander. I also have back issues and the seats are so comfortable. I just drove to Boulder (14 hours) and back and Springfield (11 hours) and back with almost no issues. That’s unheard of for me. So Agnes, if you decide to look at mid-sized SUVs I would definitely recommend the Highlander. I'm another Highlander fan. On my second. DH was 6'4" and he fit comfortably in it.
