Then you are being awfully shortsighted. You, and other progressives, try and make everything black and white either forgetting or purposely ignoring all those pesky shades of grey between the black and the white. And those grey shades matter and need to be taken into consideration when presenting a complete picture. Sorry, I don’t read many of your posts because with all the tweets and links mixed together , it makes it hard to navigate your posts. Half the time I don’t if it’s you or part of a tweet. There is a reason I take the time to post the entire article or distance my comments from the tweets I post and that to make it easy to read for those who chose to do so. There are a lot of problems in this country that need to be addressed , no question. But there is not just one way to solve these problems. Solving these problems in a responsible way. The debate should be how to achieve what needs to be done without cutting off our noses to spite our faces. I don't want to get into this argument again, but I've been wanting to say for a long time that your propensity for posting articles in their entirety - especially those behind a paywall - is potentially a violation of copyright, and I wish you'd stop for that reason (and because it makes the thread very difficult to read, for those of us who post on our phones). Journalists and news organizations deserve to be paid for their work, whether that's by subscription to get past a paywall or by the ad revenue generated from clicks. It's much more respectful of the journalist's work to post an excerpt and a link, and it also complies with the concept of "fair use." From Stanford University Law..
”Who is covered by fair use? In its most general sense, a fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. Such uses can be done without permission from the copyright owner.Apr 11, 2017”To me posting an excerpt and then the link to an article in a discussion that not everyone can read is really dumb. I mean why bother if not everyone can read the entire article? And based on what I am understanding from the blurb above it’s not an issue for what is done here on this board. No one is profiting from it. It is limited and contained to a specific thread. We certainly “comment about” and “criticize” the articles that are posted. But since it’s bothersome to some folks that paywall and apparently other articles are posted in their entirety and because I think it’s stupid to post links to articles not everyone can read if they want to, I won’t be posting any more articles or links.

If you read further into fair use, the law specifies that only excerpts and not works in their entireties are covered, regardless of what you plan to do with them. For me, personally, if I feel it's important, I'll try to post an excerpt that gives the main point of the article, or I'll quickly summarize the main point. If people don't want to pay for legitimate journalism and can't click through to the article, I can't control that. I'm not the copyright police. The only reason I brought it up is because you pointed to it as being better than posting excerpts and links, and I wanted to mention why some people might feel differently. Do what you want, and I'll keep doing what I want. There are plenty of folks here who agree with your more moderate views and have posted so, so I'm not sure why you're so upset to the point that you're using words like "dumb" and "shortsighted" and "stupid" to describe people who have done nothing to you except disagree with you, to the point that you're basically hairflipping out of political threads. You accuse me and Zingermack and other progressives of black and white thinking, but we're not calling you dumb or shortsighted or stupid or any names at all. We're simply not swayed by your arguments, and it seems to upset you, even though you also are not swayed by our arguments. This is silly, Fred. Vigorous discourse is essential to our democracy. That can't happen if people are continually getting butthurt and doing the digital equivalent of taking their toys and going home. But we all have to accept that some people are never going to agree with us and just go on down the road. I'm going to keep posting what I think, and you should do the same, and we'll just agree that on some things we're going to disagree, and that's perfectly OK.

I have the ultimate respect for shades of grey and abhor black and white thinking (as dozens of my posts will attest to). But thanks for the shots. How about you just put me on ignore? What I’m seeing is someone who does not have the ultimate respect for the various shades of grey. That the only way is the progressive way in your mind. Your post about not being a “real” Democrat gave you away. As to putting you on ignore, why would I? We both want the same thing but have different views on how to accomplish it. Is that what we do now, put folks who disagree with us on ignore? No wonder this country is so screwed up if we can’t listen to what the other folks have to say just because we don’t like it. When we put our opinions “out there” one of three things will happen. It will be ignored, folks will like and agree with it, or folks will disagree with it and aren’t shy in letting you know. I’ve voiced my opinion on a variety of things and on more than one occasion I’ve had my ass handed to me about it. But putting someone on ignore just because they don’t agree with me I don’t get. I have never policed the measure of “REAL” Democrats. That is something you’ve got hold of. It is a misrepresentation of my views. As is your continued insistence on me being a black and white thinker. I encourage you to read thru my posts and find many examples of me railing against black and white thinking and my firm belief that the world needs grey solutions -- and no examples of the former 'REAL' democrats posts. PS Merge . Agree w the copyright issues. Have long thought that as well. And that's exactly why I excerpt vs. copy paste full articles. Thanks for airing.

To weather impeachment hearings, White House looks to put witnesses on trialSome GOP allies of President Donald Trump are looking to the Kavanaugh hearings as a model for what they view as a successful effort to chip away at a potentially damaging witness's credibility.Nov. 8, 2019, 7:20 PM EST By Shannon Pettypiece WASHINGTON — Ahead of the first public testimony of the impeachment inquiry next week, the White House and key Hill Republicans are discussing a defense of President Donald Trump that is heavy on offense, with a focus on dismissing and discrediting witnesses whose testimony may be damaging to the president.“If folks question the motivations and credibility of the president as we go through this, it’s possible that the same standard could apply to them,” said an administration official involved in the process granted anonymity to speak candidly about strategy, who said the approach had been used during past impeachment defenses. The president's congressional backers are likely to question the standing of witnesses expected to provide the toughest assessments of his conduct in requesting the government of Ukraine investigate Hunter Biden, son of 2020 rival Joe Biden, the former vice president. Some key Hill GOP allies of the president are looking to the combative Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings as a model for what they view as a successful effort to chip away at the credibility of a potentially damaging witness, according to a person familiar with the White House’s thinking. The strategy for limiting the damage to the president from the upcoming hearings, developed by White House aides in concert with Republican allies in Congress, also includes an effort to emphasize distance between the witnesses — who include three career diplomats — and the president, according to people familiar with the discussions. The questioners are expected to emphasize that none of the witnesses providing public testimony had a direct conversation with Trump about a link between Ukraine funding and an investigation into the Bidens, said an administration official. Instead, the White House is hoping the hearings will suggest witness allegations of an explicit quid pro quo predicating security assistance for Ukraine on the public announcement of an investigation of the Bidens were based on conversations among themselves. ** Much more at the link: There are aslo several videos. www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-impeachment-inquiry/weather-impeachment-hearings-white-house-looks-put-witnesses-trial-n1079041There is no honor. they are out to destroy Fiona Hill, Lt Col Alexander Vindman, Bill Taylor.... and I guess any others who appear for us, the taxpayers!

The Republicans were so dang butthurt that the depositions were “secret” that they staged a ridiculous ambush of them. Even though 25% of the GOP House members had access to them. Approximately the same percentage as Democrats. Also, I’ve been reading that not all of them are even attending.

Paula White another con artist. "I want you to hear from God. God already spoke to me what I'm going to write out. You're going to write your checks to Paula White Ministries," White preached. "If God tells you to give $12.99, do it. Whatever the Holy Spirit speaks to you. If you need to give by credit card, do so." Apparently this was recently and while she has been working for the administration. Trump told her that she has the “it” factor. Seems that all the Grifters gave similar traits, and gravitate to each other. Blech!! I knew that this chick was a grifter when I saw her at the Inaugeration. She's been married 3 times, had bankruptcies and other legal issues and she's from FL. Great match for Trump!!! And now she's outright begging for $$.

I post this with tears in my eyes! Why is this shame being forced on us? Does everyone realize that dt can take his citizenship away by charging him with disloyalty........ this honorable man who has spilled his blood on the battlefield for ALL of us, The United States Of America. Alexander Vindman's testimony against Trump revives anti-Semitic accusations of disloyaltyIf any of us ex-Soviet Jews can claim to have selflessly served this country, it’s Lt. Col. Vindman. If his sacrifices can be erased, where does that leave us? Oct. 30, 2019, 4:37 PM EDT By Lev Golinkin During my junior year of high school, I slammed a door on my fingers. As I was hopping away cursing, the pain was replaced by an awestruck realization: I was swearing in English. That moment — undignified, indignant, graceless — was one of those precious times that I felt myself becoming American. ** For immigrants of color and ones who wear traditional garb, the reminder can come daily. For people like me, white, fluent in the language and culture, it appears less often, but sooner or later it comes, too. On Monday, the reminder came for Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a fellow ex-Soviet Jew who immigrated from Ukraine at the age of 3. Vindman’s congressional testimony about his concern over President Donald Trump’s behavior toward Ukraine led Trump’s defenders to accuse him of being un-American. ** These comments are particularly worrisome, for in addition to the xenophobia, they are tinged with anti-Semitism: the trope of a Jew being disloyal to their country. For centuries, anti-Semites and demagogues have accused Jews of secretly plotting against the very nations they live in to stoke paranoia and justify persecution. Indeed, the disloyalty smear was fundamental to Nazis’ demonization of Jews as enemies of Germany in the prelude to the Holocaust. But one doesn’t need to visit Third Reich Berlin to find blood spilled on account of the treasonous Jew slur. Last Sunday marked the first anniversary of a white terrorist murdering 11 Jews in a Pittsburgh synagogue. A few hours prior to the attack, the killer had posted a white supremacist message stating: “HIAS likes to bring invaders in that kill our people. I can’t sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I’m going in.” ** At a time of surging xenophobia and anti-Semitism, when chants of “Send Her Back” echo across stadiums, when Muslim American congresswomen receive daily death threats and the Jews of Pittsburgh mourn community members slaughtered by a man obsessed with Jewish disloyalty, commentators on Fox and CNN felt comfortable enough to spew accusations at Vindman. The shock of it was hard to absorb, even for someone like me who writes and speaks on immigration for a living. Vindman has dedicated his life to serving America from the time he graduated college — if any one of us, ex-Soviet Jews, can claim to have gone above and beyond to serve this country that gave us asylum and a new home, it’s him. And if his sacrifices and dedication can be wiped away and found wanting, where does that leave the rest of us? It appears my fellow ex-Soviet Jews heard the same message as well. It was a helluva time to get our reminder. ** The poisonous attack on Vindman is just the latest salvo in this battle. It’s a reminder — and this time, not only for immigrants. ** More t link: www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/alexander-vindman-s-testimony-against-trump-revives-anti-semitic-accusations-ncna1074201?cid=referral_taboolafeed

One of a Republican choice.
Patriotic American Ted Nugent Shit His Pants to Avoid the Draft Max Read 02/12/13 09:45AM
Guitar-slinging millionaire dipshit Ted Nugent will be attending the State of Union tonight, as the guest of Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman (former Rep). Nugent—who last year issued a veiled threat to President Obama—says he'll "demilitarize" before he goes. An interesting choice of words, as Nugent isn't himself a military man—in fact, he literally shit his pants to avoid being drafted.

O'Brien is dt's national security advisor ONLY since Sept 18, 2019, not just a person. He stated that he will also cut the dept from 250 people to 100 new people. NSC is great place to bring in ALL new people! This is OUR national security he is talking about. He replaced Bolton.

From MSNBC...
It seems the leadership of the Republicans in the House are giving Rep Jim Jordan a “plum assignment “ in the impeachment hearing next week. He will be “grilling” the witnesses.
I’m not sure how any decent person can look at Jordan and not think “he knew and yet he did nothing”. Especially when another person or is it two have come forward and said that they told him what was going on.
But yet the Republicans feel the need to put this guy front and center during the impeachment hearings. What does that say about today’s Republicans?

Newsweek.
It seems the Feds have issued a warning that not only are the Russians going to try and meddle in our elections in 2020 but they will have company in that China and Iran are expected to join the party.
Well why not, we made it easy for Russia in 2016 and have not been serious about doing anything about it since.

Daniel Dale on twitter has a question.
He is asking for a “trump translation”. Last week at the rally in Kentucky, trump rambled on about being 58-0 on Monday nights and that he likes Monday nights and that it was a pretty good record.
Anyone have a clue?

Scott Dworkin. Happy Veteran’s Day! Below is a list of decorated veteran’s trump has attacked that he see’s as his enemies. According to dt's speech before the Veteran's Day parade in NYC this morning, HE honors all veterans all the time. When people applauded for those he mentioned, he said thank you, thank you very much! They were not applauding him, they were applauding veterans! I was in the kitchen and something struck me........ As he says 'thank you, thank you very much' it sounds like the way Elvis used to say it after applause.

NPR & others.
I guess in her forthcoming book, Nikki Haley is saying that John Kelly and Rex Tillerson asked her help to “save the country “ from trump.
The fact that she didn’t and the current trump driven mess this country is in now, I would say we would have to question her judgement in any future general elections she may decide to enter.

This should scare us all, even if we don’t live near a dam.
AP is reporting after a 2 year investigation they find 1700 dams in this country are in poor or unsatisfactory condition.
In 2017, the spillway at the Oroville Dam in Ca, started to breakaway and the secondary spillway started to wash away to the point they had to evacuate 188,000 people downriver from the dam because they weren’t sure the dam would hold. It did hold and it cost I believe around $2 billion dollars to fix it.
Conditions of a lot of bridges are also suspect.
