Ok, so I work at a cemetery(a big one). A man called this morning to ask about a vault. We don't require the type of vault he was asking about but I told him to call the local vault company because he still wants a vault so that he can put his parents in it together. A minute later, I get a call from said vault company (we deal with them on a DAILY basis). The woman calling got VERY snippy with me and told me that they DO NOT DEAL with the GENERAL public and that he would have to go through a funeral home. Ok... I've worked here 5 years, and honestly, I haven't ever had to answer that question, so now I know. I just thought, he wants a vault, call the vault place... She went on to berate me for even THINKING that they could help him and that from now ON *I* need to make sure that they don't get that kind of call again because she gets in trouble when she has to answer that kind of call. Huh?? I mean, she was really just being a B*&^%!! I'm already emotional today because it's been a rough morning in other areas of life, and that almost pushed me over the edge... I WILL NOT CRY at work! LOL Anyway... I just needed to get that off my chest & I didn't want to put it on social media...

So you've talked to this woman before? Don't allow her to ruin your day.
Brush it off, her being a total b!tch is on her-even if she's in pain, etc., you still don't get to treat people badly. Maybe say a prayer for her.
Hugs

Wow! I wouldn't be recommending that vault company. She sure didn't have to act so nasty. Some people!

I’ll validate you. That woman was just RUDE. How were you *supposed* to know they don’t deal with the general public? Who would know that? Ugh. My vent is that after putting a lot of time and money into the custom costume that DD really wanted to wear for Halloween (and it was coming along perfectly), the forecast for Halloween night is 25° F which is not conducive to wearing said costume outside for even a short time, sigh. So now we had to quickly come up with a plan B costume that will be warm enough, from square one, less than a week before Halloween. Ugh. Which I get to do today. In my spare time, which I currently have none of.

Very rude to speak to someone the way she spoke to you. Very unprofessional too! I’m sorry that happened to you. I hope your day gets better and the rest of your week is awesome.

The vault lady's reaction sounds extreme. Sorry you had to be on the receiving end of that.
I have a man cold, I was up all night, and I don't feel like doing anything.

It’s her not you. Don’t take anything she said personally. Be thankful you don’t live in her head.

IIRC, you are the customer and she's the vendor. I would send an email to her boss. I'm sorry that you're having a yucky day.

I am having issues with some family members. Their behavior in this one certain area is very hurtful and confusing. I haven't confronted them about it yet (I have multiple times in the past). The behavior hasn't changed so I will have to develop strategies to change the way I deal with this. I have developed a plan and when the time is right, I will calmly discuss it with them (I hope! ). Seriously Dude, is it that hard to return a text?

give us the name of the vault company she works for, and we can ALL call her with random, individual questions!! Seriously, she was rude. You have NO way of knowing who THEIR company deals with or doesn't deal with.

Also what is a vault? A mausoleum?

I will bet $20 that she hasn’t been doing something that requires her to do as part of her job. This guy calling her probably brought it out into open or may be she was rude to him too and got in trouble.

Mel, she was rude! and wrong! Plus, why would she get in trouble for answering a call, she should just refer them to their funeral home. crazy4scraps, sorry about the last minute change and your already packed schedule. @peano, hope you feel better. DEX, total validation for the text thing. I have nephew who never returns a text. Even one that is only to him. -We have a family group text and he never responds on it. Fine. But when someone texts you specifically, even an emoji response to say you got it and read it would be good. My very minor vent is DD fell out of bed last Friday morning and ended up breaking her collarbone. Best bone to break as no cast is involved. Yesterday I had to call the orthopedic to make an appointment. We had it today. 5 minutes for him to say exactly what the clinic told us on Friday, with the addition of come back in 3 weeks for another xray and we will see about range of motion exercises then. This could have been said over the phone, in a text, email, whatever, but then they can't bill their portion of the $$$ they want to charge. ugh.

Is their phone number public information? I mean, could the guy have googled them and called without you having recommended he call them? I can see her being upset (maybe) if you gave out a private number. But, even so, her response shouldn't have been so aggressive/over-the-top. She could have just asked you not to give that number out again.

"So you're saying as a vendor you now want no business from me or directly from possible client either. Got it"
Is what I'd be thinking in my head but probably too stunned to even think of saying out loud.

It's a good thing they don't deal with the general public because with that type of attitude, they'd lose business! I wonder if she got into trouble herself for not knowing that they don't deal with the general public and answered questions she shouldn't have?

Thanks, everyone! crazy4scraps, I feel you too!! We are supposed to have SNOW all day on Halloween!! Ugh! I know, what the heck right? That was originally our forecast last week, but as of right now it’s going to be clear but really cold. Neither is awesome when you’re a kid and all you want to do is go collect some candy from the neighbors! We have a plan for a different costume that won’t be a ton of work. It’s just that I was really hoping I could be done going to the craft store again anytime soon and now I’ll have to convince DH to stop there tonight on our way home from dinner. Which he won’t like. I would have gone today, but our final Invisible Fence training session for our new dog was rescheduled for today. It was supposed to be yesterday but the guy got behind and didn’t bother to call me until around 3:45 (his window was from 1-3 pm, so yeah) saying he wouldn’t make it, after I sat around here all afternoon waiting for him to show up or call and then he didn’t. And then today, he was ahead of schedule so he ended up coming early, meaning I couldn’t go this afternoon either. ETA: On a positive note, at least the dog passed his training test and didn’t race past the flags to get the ball. He will still need to be trained on the fence for another couple months, but at least now he has the idea that he needs to stay in our yard.

Maybe she shouldn't be answering the phone at all if she can't be trusted to say, "I'm sorry, we only sell directly to funeral homes so you'll have to contact them for that information." But... I wonder if she got into trouble herself for not knowing that they don't deal with the general public and answered questions she shouldn't have? This makes sense. I bet she gave the customer wholesale prices for a vault and was then informed they only sell to funeral homes - so the price she gave him was actually much cheaper than what he'll end up paying.

If I’ve just handed you several hundred dollars out of no obligation what so ever and your DW has just run out for pizza, the least you can do is ask me to stay for dinner. I’m going to follow that up with, if I’ve offered to make 2 memory quilts for your very young grandchildren who’ve lost their mother and you ask me to make several more for her sisters and step children, the least you can do is to offer to pay for lunch. I swear I am going to quit being nice to people!

Hand around long enough for the pizza to appear and eat your dinner. I have made memory quilts for people before and have stated as politely as I can to say that I can only make 2 of them.
