I need ideas for something to bring with me to holiday parties at people’s houses. Are hostess gifts still a thing?

Oh yeah, I always bring a hostess gift. A floral centerpiece, bottle of wine, a nice holiday CD, (at least back in the old days!) box of Frango mints.

My latest hostess gift is a bottle of Raft cocktail syrup or bitters. It's made locally and is easy to pick up at the grocery store. They can be used in juices or sodas too. raftsyrups.com/collections/raft-syrups |

It is here (MN). I usually bring a family sized box of homemade Christmas cookies which are always appreciated since many of our friends and neighbors don’t bake like I do. We have also regifted bottles of wine that people have given us because we’re not wine drinkers but some of our neighbors are. Flowers are never a bad option, chocolates are always good too. When Costco has their big bags of Ghirardelli squares or Lindt truffles on promo, we typically get several extra bags of those to have on hand for emergencies.  |

yes..... i bring shortbread. usually one sweet, one savoury. they are beautifully packaged and always a hit. who knew savoury shortbread could be so yummy??? shortbread(canadian company so.....) |

Absolutely! This time of year, I head to William-Sonoma. They have gift items already wrapped in cellophane and they are lovely. For fall, they had a yummy pumpkin bread mix paired with pumpkin butter. Last year they had a tower with three tins of different hot chocolate flavors. I like them because it is more unique then the boring bottle of wine.

Yes. At this time of year I’d bring a bottle of wine or a potted plant like an Amaryllis, Christmas Cactus, or Poinsettia.

Yes! I usually gift a potted plant (can be small pot with a tiny succulent or two), wine, or good chocolate from local place.

I love this shortbread - soooo yummy!! I haven't been to a craft show in a couple of years and had forgotten about it but I see you can order on line! 
And on topic - gifts are definitely still a thing here too. Wine, candles, plants, food - depends on my host.

We don't drink much wine and with a cat we do not have plants out where she can destroy them. But I do love giving hostess gifts and will give something out of my craft room. I always have projects that I make just for the fun of it and it is great to have homes for them in mind.

I always take a bottle of wine when we're invited to dinner at anytime. This time of the year I usually add a potted plant or a nice box of liqueur chocolates to have with our coffee afterwards.

I hosted a dinner party for my husband’s leadership staff last week. Everyone brought a gift—most from their own country (NATO staff). DH has been talking a lot about Belgian beer, so we got a lot of beers.

I thought we were traveling for Thanksgiving so I had already picked up a hostess gift -- a pair of Thanksgiving themed linen dishtowels along with a bottle of Mrs Meyers dish soap. That seemed practical for all the holiday cleanup.
For a dinner or party at someone's home, it's usually a bottle of wine. If I'm staying over with someone, I usually do a food gift like fresh baked bread or a basket of fruits.

Wine or a nice candle. Sometimes flowers but only if you have put them in a vase. I pick up 25 cent vases at thrift stores to keep for that purpose.

Commonly I do -- cute, silly, funny cocktail size napkins. I've also purchase candal sets (on sale) for hostess gifts. Flowers (in a pinch - swing through the grocery store!), wine, candy. It is just such a nice touch!

Unless they don’t drink, we always take some type of alcohol.
That’s what I’d want if it were for me. I don’t need extra candles, or plants that will die, sitting around the house.

Marshalls has some beautiful glass plates. I will put the food I bring on the plate and tell the hostess she can keep it. They are only around $10 or $11.

I still give hostess gifts.
Depending on the person or people, I give:
Box of chocolates
Nothing Bundt cake (They come stacked and wrapped...one, two or three or the dozen mini bundtinis)
Wine or other bottle of alcohol
Basket/cellophane wrap with hot chocolate and Pepperidge farm cookies
Flowers
Jar with Hershey mini's
