Growing up, every Christmas my mom made Date Nut Pudding. It is SO yummy and I would love to make it this year. I mentioned it to my kids and each one acted like they would die if fed Date Nut Pudding. Now, don’t get me wrong. I WILL make it, if I have to eat the whole thing myself. 🤣. But what struck me was that the name DATE nut PUDDING is what is turning them off! They have never tried it. They say the name alone is gross! 🤣🤣 Do you have a delicious dish that has a less than appetizing name?

Well, I guess the Brits lead the field with the pudding called Spotted Dick.

"Green Stuff" aka Pistachio Fluff aka Watergate salad minus nuts and marshmallows.
That's the only one that comes to mind at the moment

We always had a jello salad—
Either orange jello with mandarin oranges and shredded carrots and pineapple OR
LIME JELLO WITH PINEAPPLE AND CELERY!!!

English Suet Pudding. Yes, it is made with beef animal fat. My late Mother-in-law made it every Christmas. It’s supposedly is an old family recipe passed down for many generations from England. Not sure about that. It is surprisingly good.

That actually sounds good!
I love it but I've always thought the term "Dump Cake" just sounds wrong!

Well, I guess the Brits lead the field with the pudding called Spotted Dick. Our local grocery store used to have a decent size selection of foreign/ethnic food products, including some British canned items etc. They had Spotted Dick and my dd was giggly horrified when I pointed it out to her one day several years ago.

Holidays growing up, there was always Apple-Pea salad. I've made it a few times for my kids because it's tradition and I don't have a lot of family recipes...
It doesn't qualify as sounds awful tastes good though. Sounds interesting, tastes awful is more like it at least to me...
The main ingredients are: canned peas apple chunks cheddar cheese pieces part of an orange (or orange juice, or both I'd have to look it up) mayonnaise
Yum...

Corned Beef pie! I love it enough to marry it. My Grandmother always made it and I have never heard of anyone else who has had it. It is basically corned beef out of the can, tomatoes, sugar, salt and pepper and enough flour to thicken it and then pour into a pie shell and make until brown.

There's a recipe that popped up on my FB the other day. Apparently, it's delicious, but the combination of ingredients strikes me as a bit odd.
It's called Cranberry Salsa Cream Cheese Dip. It's basically a mixture of cranberries, jalapenos, green onions, cilantro and lime juice over a bed of cream cheese.
It's so weird that I will probably end up making it soon LOL

I was scared to try it, but everyone was raving about it, so I did. It was delicious! We ate it with wheat thins.
Oh, she left out the cilantro because she hates cilantro.

My mom makes a dessert called "Crunchy Pudding" - that doesn't sound appetizing since pudding should be smooth not crunchy. It is actually called that because it has a crust and that is what the church recipe book called it. Most people call the same dessert " Chocolate Delight"

Sh!t on a shingle! LOL My husband had never heard of it. I loved it growing up. Made it for him, and he took two bites and said NO lol I grew up on it too. Creamed chipped beef on toast! The Stouffers tv dinner version is pretty decent. My mom used to make creamed eggs on toast too (hard boiled eggs diced into white gravy). So good.

It was one of my favorites as a kid and I still make it every now and then.
Ours was made with chipped beef and hard boiled eggs. I love the egg part, probably more than the beef part. I usually use the entire egg but sometimes I use just the egg white part on some of the eggs because that is my favorite part...i could do without the yolk but hate to waste it.

When I was a child back in the 70s, a popular party food was “Little Boys”. It is simply cocktail frankfurts (mini hot dog sausages). I’ll leave it to your imagination as to why it was called Little Boys. I never realised at the time why it had that name, it was just what they were called. 😳

Not the name itself, but the list of ingredients in grape salad. At one point some reporter said it was a traditional Minnesota food, and this lifelong Minnesotan said, “What the what?!?” It turns out that MANY Minnesotans said something similar, almost no one had ever heard of it and people were saying that reporter was on crack.
Here you go (barf!) Grape Salad from Food Network
Ingredients 2 pounds seedless green grapes 2 pounds seedless purple grapes One 8-ounce package cream cheese, room temperature One 8-ounce container sour cream 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed 1/2 cup pecans, finely chopped
Directions Wash the grapes and dry thoroughly with paper towels. Put the dry grapes in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. In a bowl, combine the cream cheese, sour cream, granulated sugar and vanilla. Mix well using an electric mixer. Pour this mixture over the grapes and toss together until all the grapes are coated. Chill in the refrigerator. Just before serving, sprinkle with the brown sugar and pecans.
I’m sorry, NO. Just no. That’s gross.
