I am forever changing AA batteries on these. They seem to last about 1-2 months. Do you turn off your mouse and keyboard at night? I googled "best batteries" and it's all over the place. I just bought 20 AA batteries at Target for $12.00; my DH (he did not know that I bought batteries the same day) bought 60 for about $20.00--both are "brand name" different brands, but there is "deluxe, super deluxe, etc, yada yada. Can't compare apples to apples--like buying a mattress There were also ones for 8.00 for four of them. Then there are the rechargables. What do you use/which are the best for the money? Thanks!

Hmmm... mine never burned through batteries like that. I will say that cheap batteries, especially in electronics, do not last nearly as long as "good" batteries. I use Eneloop rechargeables. (Well, actually, I don't use my Apple keyboard because I really need a keypad, so I use the Logitech solar powered one and it's awesome. No batteries!) Before I moved to the rechargeables, I used Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries in my trackpad, mouse, etc. and got nice life out of them. ETA: Here is a link to the solar keyboard. It's pretty incredible. It works off just normal room light. I love it.

I definitely don't know what the best batteries are, but I use rechargeables. I'm sure I change them more frequently, but I don't feel so bad about it. :-) I'm pretty sure I got the batteries and charger from Amazon. My mouse batteries also last at least twice as long as my keyboard batteries, so I guess I use my mouse more than my keyboard.
Edited to add: Now I really want a solar powered keyboard. I had no idea that existed!

My electronics usually have rayovac alkalines in them. And why wouldn't you turn the electronics off when you're not using them?

I would get a different mouse and keyboard. I had a Kensington wireless keyboard that sucked batteries dry WAY too fast, and the mouse was no better. I switched to a corded slimline Apple keyboard (was a gift) and a Microsoft wireless mouse--problem solved. The batteries in the Microsoft mouse last for at least six months or more. I can't remember when I had to change them last.

Keyboards and mice are not meant to need to be turned off and on under daily usage. For extended storage or something, yes, but they are not drawing power when not is use and what a total PITA to have to turn on your keyboard and mouse every time you wanted to use it.

We usually have duracell batteries and they seem to last several months in each. Have not noticed that they wear out that quickly.

I just replaced the batteries in my keyboard and mouse for the first time. I've had my computer since March 1, so that's 8 months. I probably average about an hour a day on my computer--more when I'm editing photos and less when I'm lazy and on the couch with my iPad.
And no, I don't turn them off when I'm not using them. Mama Mac goes into sleep mode 15 minutes after no use. That's good enough for me. I can't imagine turning everything off every time I get up for a drink or to let the dog out!
ETA: I use Duracell batteries that I buy in a big pack from Costco. I think they are the regular old Duracell brand.

I think (not sure, but seem to remember it from when I set up my Mac/cordless keyboard/trackpad), there is a setting for how long they stay 'on' for after last being touched/used... I'll take a peek to see if I can find it, but I was sure there was a sleep setting for the keyboard and mouse/trackpad because I remember thinking "why would them to be on longer than my monitor?"...
That said, I use rechargeables... I think they're Energizer brand, but that's just what I happened to have bought... I would guess I change out my trackpad batteries every two or three months, and the keyboard batteries every four or five (just slightly less often)...

I use longlasting (supposedly) lithium ones and I do turn off my magic mouse when I'm not using it. The keyboard turns off by itself. I think I replace the batteries every 5 or so months? Not entirely sure but it seems like I get reasonable use out of them.

I use a USB keyboard because I got sick of the short battery life on the wireless. I may also go back to a USB mouse.

I never changed mine that often (more like every 6-8 months or so with regular use). I got sick of changing batteries though and I have the same keyboard as busypea (except mine is cream and lime green) and it's awesome. I even bought the smaller portable one to use with my iPad mini for emails and journaling.

I hated my wireless keyboard. It never would work right. I do love my wireless mouse and put new batteries in every month or so. I thought that was pretty good, considering that little thing is in use most of the day.
