I am starting off with a No Spend January, but ideally, I'd like to keep it going and see if I can't have a low spend year.
An early win is not going out to eat for NYE tonight. DH asked if I wanted to and I told him no. I would rather stay home and cook a new recipe. We spent an obscene amount on eating out in December. We have a full pantry and freezer. I need to work on meal planning a little bit better so we don't go out to eat because we don't feel like cooking.
Also when my young adult kids were home for Christmas we went through all the streaming services DH and I pay that only the kids use. That stuff really adds up. They got cancelled and another one got moved to DS's name/payment. We are still paying for Hulu, but DH and I use it and the kids can still too.

I’m definitely in. Aside from a breakfast out with dd before she goes back to school, my plan is only spending on necessities.
I’ve already canceled a ton of subscriptions; if it becomes necessary the streaming services will be axed. We already got rid of cable so I’d like to keep Netflix & D+/ESPN/Hulu package as long as possible.

My plan is a Low Spend.
Really, I need nothing but necessities. My reading goal for 2025 is to read large books/series. These are mostly books I already own, minus King’s Dark Tower series. My hobbies should be decently covered with supplies.
There is one journal kit that will be purchased, if I like it—The Archer & Olive Halloween kit. The 2024 kit is amazing!
I have a plan, so I feel positive about the level of success.

I’m going for low spend year. I bought several streaming services during Black Friday sales and not planning to cancel any except for ones that were for only a few months.
My freezer and pantry needs to be organized and it will be easier after we use up a bit.
I am planning a low spend for crafting snd hobbies. I need to organize what I have and purge some things I don’t use. I will buy some but it will be less than I have been spending the past few years.
I need to not spend on house things. No spend on candles, blankets snd some beauty products.
I want to not spend in take out or eating out. Not completely but cut back.

I need to cut back on spending.
I stocked up on skin care and hair care during sales the past two months, so I should be set for months (skin care) and the year (hair care). I only want to replenish items.
I am not buying any Lego sets until I build at least 2 sets I already have. I do have a couple sets I have in my wishlist nearing retirement, so that gives me incentive to be productive.
I am only buying clothes as needed as I continue to lose weight. I also need to not buy clothes in my new size(s) unless I have an immediate need for them, as I purchased some nicer pants on clearance, but never had the chance to wear them before they became too big.
I did really well not purchasing stuff from Ali Edwards this year, the only thing I purchased this year was the 2025 OLW class yesterday. The last order I placed was 12/25/23, which is amazing. I need to keep it up.
I did not do so well with purchasing stuff from Scrapbook Generation. I need to keep it to sale items or free kit weekends. I'm hoping to go back to WeCreate in September (this time with an old friend from college), so I need to save up money for that. If I am able to go, I'd bank all of my purchases to receive them at the crop, so it's like a mini Christmas celebration for me.
I need to stop purchasing bags from Portland Leather Goods, full stop. I have a number of bags I need to post in the bst groups, so hopefully I can recoup at least some money.
I think those are my main triggers for unnecessary spending, so that's where I going to focus my low spending efforts on next year.

We’re going to low spend this year out of necessity. I plan on switching positions at the end of May but it comes with a HUGE pay cut. Absolutely no impulse buys. I have a list of things I’ve been looking to replace but refuse to purchase until I find the just right item. Some things have been on the list for several years😂. They just don’t make things like they used to.
I got a gift card to the scrapbook store for Christmas so that’s what I have to spend for the year in that area. There are a few things/projects we have had money set aside for like our big trip to Orlando this fall. We’ve been saving for 3 years and will splurge some but have a firm max amount we can spend. My new scrap room has had a set amount earmarked for it too. We might finally get to that project this year.
We are definitely trying to cut down the take out and fast food. That may be hardest expense to cut back for us. When you have a special needs kid and spend your Saturday and afternoon/evenings running to different therapies it’s hard to meal prep and cook at home.

We've spent most of our marriage in a low spend mode. Now we have $$ for retirement and cannot break the habit!!

My plan is low spend. My over all goal is >> spend less, save more. My number one priority is continuing to re-build my savings. It took a huge hit during the pandemic and I am still in recovering mode.
I am continuing with my many decades old plan of >> buying necessary items (laundry soap, toilet paper, etc..), only when they are on sale ad stocking up on the sale items. Why pay full price, if I don't have to.
At this late 50's stage of adulthood, I feel like I finally have my home as I want it and love it. I have replaced all the things that I wanted to replace (hand me downs, thrifted and yard sale stuff, bought because it was less expensive items). I am very selective and mindful.....of shopping and purchases. I try to always ask myself.... once, twice, ten times >> Do I love this? Do I need this? Am I having a moment of instant gratification admiration? Is there a place for this in my home and life? Do I have something similar? For me, instant admiration and desire for something is my downfall, it becomes an immediate * I want*. I try to be cognizant and mindful of instant gratification versus need, >> but it's much easier said, than done.

If I could go back I wouldn’t have bought any of them.

My goal is low spend Jan - June. This summer is when we want to purchase a new van for me. I would like to have $15,000 down. And then have my van be a trade in. So a bit under $20k.
We also want to pay more on our credit cards.
The only items we will buy are
For kids birthday's (experiences for both)
Clothes/shoes/underwear/bras as needed
Ds graduation
Our anniversary
Take out 1x a month. I cook all meals. I need that break. And it is $30 or under so not much
Regular vehicle maintenance. We are both due next month for oil changes and I need tires.
I have the goal to reduce my grocery spending by $15 a week in Jan and see if I can reduce it more. My goal is $200 a week over $250. We shall see. With our unique diets and needs that might not be able to happen. But I'm going to try.

I’m going to try to be better.
I promised DH - no makeup or candles this year. I have more than enough of both so I’m more than fine.
My goal is to focus on different things so we’ll see.

As someone whose been on the minimalist path for the past few years, I feel this thread is made for me!! I do need to be better about not eating out/take out. I have over an hour commute to work and it’s too convenient to grab breakfast or dinner on the way. Last year I bought a new vehicle that I regret buying. Interestingly, my DD who’s teased me relentlessly about being a minimalist is now becoming one herself!

I am trying for a low spend year.
The thing is, I am not particularly frivolous myself.
But the last few years' spending has been very high. A combo of vehicle and appliances failure, and immediate home repair needs.
Just came one after another.

Low spend seems more reasonable than a freeze, which I'm sure I would break after the first few weeks! We had a lot of work done on our house last year so we should be good on that front. My car is a 2008 Toyota that still runs amazingly and while I'd like to get a new car, I think I might wait, even though I do have a CD maturing in March that could pay for a new car.
I am retiring in March, so I've been a little, ok, a lot worried about health care specifically for my DH as I have always covered the insurance through my job. We are talking with a retirement specialist to help decide on the 'plans' we need to take on specifically for medications as my DH is a Type 2 Diabetic.
I did get a few of the Simon Says Diecember sales yesterday - like I needed more dies but . . . and that attitude needs to stop too - I've got more than enough craft supplies (minus adhesives of course) to last YEARS!

Low spend here
Today will be easy - we’re at the kids still and today is planned as a lazy at home day except for packing up our stuff - we leave tomorrow
Thursday and Friday should also be pretty easy - we’ll be on the road. I already have car snacks and breakfast Friday is included with our lodgings. Lunch and dinner are included in the vacation budget
Saturday will be groceries - plan is to just buy milk and produce and eat from the freezer and pantry. I’ll check back in afterwards

Hello, and Happy New Year! I'm going to do a low-spend January. My household items storage is pretty good--laundry supplies, dishwashing supplies, cleaning supplies, paper supplies--so I don't expect to need to buy anything in that area this month. My food storage is good too. I will just need to buy fresh dairy and produce. My financial goals this month are to set up the various savings accounts that will allow me to transfer money for saving (vacation, property taxes, etc. etc.). My boys need some clothes and we do have wrestling competitions to pay for but other than that, I expect to keep the expenses pretty low.
Here's to saving in 2025!

I'm going low spend. I've already cancelled several paid services-Amazon Prime, Audiobooks, Disney Plus and Apple + . I did get BritBox for the year on sale. It was 1/2 the price of a yearly Disney Plus subscription. My son with disabilities only watches one show on repeat so I bought the dvd LOL
We live frugally anyway for the most part. We don't go to movies and rarely out for dinner. But we do endulge and make great food at home.
I'm going to focus on my Kindle unread book list. I've been a sucker for .99 cent book sales and have a lot of unread books. Spotify has 15 hours of reading per month with the subscription, so I'll use this. My library holds are full.
I want to use up my craft stashes. Yes! I will do so LOL. We all say this but I'm determined to use up some of the yarn for donated projects.
I use my Walmart CC for all bills and rack up points. I pay in full each month. I use the points for groceries, yarn or gc for myself to buy at other shops like Kobo or Bass Pro.
I'm going to give myself $50 a month for discretionary spending or use at the second hand store.
My goals are to retire in June with an extra $10,000 in my account.

I really don't spend a ton on non-necessity stuff as it is, but there's always room for improvement. Ideally this year I will be able to build up some savings because there's some maintenance that I really need to do to the house but I refuse to do it unless I can pay cash. One of these days I'd like to get new living room furniture too. So that's given me a savings goal that if I stay with it month to month in 2 years I could pay for all of that without a problem. I'd feel a lot better if I had a savings cushion anyway.
My plan right now is to pack my lunch more and not always run to Taco Bell when I'm out. I have a major Taco Bell problem. This will also naturally help me lose a little weight which is actually more important than money anyway. I also want to go to Winco more often for groceries since they are so much cheaper than anywhere else around here. That will take some commitment though since they're out of my way and I hate grocery shopping.

I feel like I am already a low to no spend person. Christmas always makes me cringe with the amount of "stuff" that gets purchased. I take my coffee to work, along with my own lunch from home. My hobbies are reading and puzzles, both of which the thrift stores keep me in business. I have switched (switching) my cleaners to more sustainable products and low toxic, not using plastic storage anymore, gone to beeswax wraps and glass containers. I always cook at home so eating out is not a worry for us. This next year we will have expenses for our land. We purchased land and are planning on building. It will be huge up front cost, but in the end (after this house sells) it will be a wash and then I can spend all my money on chicken and goat feed I told my sister I have entered my hippy grandma era.

three days in and the only "spend" was the 1.99 on Google storage
tomorrow is grocery shopping - planning on making a menu based on the pantry and freezer and only buying what I actually put on my list.

I'd like to try a low spend year. I have 18 months until I will retire (can retire now, but working to get supplemental medical paid for during retirement). I'd like to try to live in 2025 with what I would make in retirement with just my SocSec and pension. I'm getting SocSec already (widow benefits) and have an estimated $$ number for my pension. If I can do that and not draw down my savings, I'll feel much better when it comes time to stop working, knowing I can do it. I'll bank/invest the rest of my salary to boost my savings. My biggest expenses right now are my cardmaking hobby and the dog. Those weekend cardmaking retreats are expensive! I'll budget for one or two, but not the 5-6 I did last year.

Back from the library and grocery stores. Did NOT buy anything from the FoL book racks. Spent $100 on groceries and $7 on a french press - DS uses it for his loose tea when making iced tea and I have a LOT of loose tea (and bagged tea) to use this year.
Stuck to my list - the only Aldi aisle of shame purchase was the (preplanned) french press. Given that my fridge and produce was EMPTY (due to being on vacation for two weeks), I think I did ok.
Next planned expense is my farm box - $28 on Monday for next Friday's box

I'd like to low spend, but January is impossible for me as there are a plethora of birthdays. So for Jan and Feb, I'm just going to cut back. March through May should be okay for low spend. This summer depends on what the kids want to do for their birthdays

I have groceries delivered to help lower the cost. King Soopers is like $59 for a year of free delivery and I got two years on sale. It definitely cuts down on impulse buys and also saves me hours of time.
