i got a big container of lotion from my dermatologist. It works great but doesn’t smell very good...sort of clinical, medicine-y. Can I add something to it to male it smell nice?

Essential oils from your local Whole Foods (or whomever) or scent oils from a bath product supply company. Just be sure you don’t overdo it with some essential oils or it could irritate your skin. You can google whatever scents you might be interested in.
eta: Michael’s and JoAnn’s have scent oils in their soap making supply section.

I have a hand cream like that, and usually I just start with the heavy duty cream and then use a dollop of something I know smells good.
Since you got this lotion from your dermatologist, though, I am assuming it's because of some sort of skin issue. Unless it's just straight up super dry skin, I would be really cautious about adding things, lest you make whatever problem you're treating worse.

Definitely do a small sample mix if you add oils. Some can be very irritating.
