Not that type of 'package' you dirty birds. It's time to reorder packing supplies and I'm debating how I should budget for Q3. When you order a product, does the type of bag or packaging influence your future orders and referrals at all? The orders currently get wrapped in lightly scented tissue paper and sealed with a thank you sticker before going into a pink bubble mailer and then a flat rate priority mailer or box if necessary for the mail or a plain black bag for pickups. Would getting a pretty package make any difference in future business to you? (Let's assume all products arrive safely, you love all of them and you're dazzled by my amazing personality. This is based on packaging only. ) Tell me what you think? What type of packaging do you prefer? Box? Envelope? Bag? Wrapped? Just throw my stuff in a bag and quit thinking about it? Ha

It wouldn’t matter to me, BUT...I’d appreciate the extra effort and little touches to make me think of you next time I needed to buy something.

I do like nice packaging!
I will say I ordered something from you (not you directly as I’m in Canada) and when it arrived “thank you Ashley Lastname” was written in huge black marker in the inside of the box flaps and I didn’t appreciate it at all. It felt impersonal and strangely tacky — and also drew a lot of noticeable attention to the box once it was flattened and in the recycling. So I’d rather have just received a plain box, not one with my entire name scrawled across it in sharpie.

I like getting pretty packages. I think that the thought behind it shows that you care.

While I love getting pretty packages, it wouldn’t affect my purchasing decision.

i hate waste so will say i prefer the minimum of "extras" or overpackaging.
a simple, handwritten note on a little card that said "thank you for your order, steph" would be a personal touch i appreciate but wouldn't make me feel like it was excessive or unnecessary.

I take note of companies who try to do less when it comes to packaging. I want to contribute less to landfills and that includes cardboard and paper that comes with online shopping.

A pretty package looks nice, but I also don’t like overkill on the packaging materials, as in I don’t want too much stuff to throw away/recycle.
Note: as someone sensitive to scented items, I’d prefer tissue paper NOT to be scented. It could mean an instant headache for me, or if I want to save and reuse it, the scent might transfer to other things or be a trigger for someone else.

I love pretty packaging. But I love more CAREFUL packaging with minimal waste. The first makes me think nicely of you; the second encourages me to shop with you again.

I think about a quarter of people would be oblivious, a quarter would love it especially if it could be recycled for collage or art journaling, and the other half would be like, “oh that’s nice” and then go on about their lives. I’m in the second quarter, but packaging doesn’t influence my buying decisions.

I do not care what kind of packaging it comes in unless I order it as a gift. If I order it for myself, just make sure it gets to me in one piece.

It's a nicety but very, very low on things I consider when reordering the same product and/or from the same supplier. Prompt shipment, low or no shipping costs, product as described, product a good value all rank much higher.

It wouldn't effect my future decision making at all. Just send me my package, and a follow up thank you email (less paper waste).

you packages are very pretty. idk if you are thinking more of in person packaging or via mail, or both. i think your fancy packing might be ok for in person, but for via mail, i don't think it is necessary. i think a little thank you note and maybe a "surprise" would be good. one company i know of throws candy in all their packages and people talk about it all the tine. for you, it might be something other than candy. a little lotion, or bath bomb. idk. but i don't think you need to overdo it on the packaging. would not influence my buying decision at all.

I appreciate a minimalist approach to packaging, but I think it needs to be done nicely. If I am paying my hard earned money for something special, I don't want it coming stuffed in a padded envelope and that's it. And it would likely affect my repurchase, as I have a tendency to buy something, and if I like it, I order one for my sisters, in which case I like minimalist pretty packaging.
Dh recently ordered something and it came in a very pretty tissue paper. I immediately used a piece of it on a thank you card for my mom. That's a win to me.

Due to being a scent free home, I would be turned off from the scented tissue paper. Even the lightest scent can send turn in to a migraine.

I prefer less packaging so that I have to recycle less. As long as the bag looks nice and can be recycled I'm fine. Fancy packages won't make me a return customer. Good customer service and a great product will bring me back though.
As for scent, that's a big NO. I have asthma and your 'lightly scented' could well be enough to trigger an asthma attack.

From a big box store or chain store I expect there to be very little specialty packaging. I am totally fine with amazon throwing my stuff into a box with some bubble wrap, as long as it gets to me without breaking or exploding.
I expect a little bit more with packing presentation if I am ordering from a specialty shop. Things folded into tissue paper, thank you card, aribbon tied around something, or whatever. Or even just using a box that is not the standard brown or white. It’s a small touch that sets those companies apart from the big chains.
That said, pretty packaging absolutely does not entice me to buy more from a certain place. I am not going to place an order just because someone sent me a mini bag of skittles in with my item. I am going to order more of something if I liked it and it was at a price point that I can live with.
Oh, and I will say if I ordered something that should have no scent, or has a very specific scent, and it showed up inside of packing with some other scent, I would be super pissed. To the point where I would go out of my way to avoid ordering from that vendor again. I am funny about smells. I don’t want uninvited smells in my life and home.

I love it!! But I think some (extra pretty) tissue paper (with designs) with a big pretty sticker to keep the tissue together on it would be cheaper and just as lovely. Would I order again? Maybe.. but I don't think it wouldn't really influence me that much.

My decision on what company to order from, is based on quality merchandise and cost of shipping.
While cute packaging is a nice touch, if the shipping is not free or very low in price, then I won't order.
Personally, in lieu of cute packaging, I'd rather have a dollar amount off or percent off coupon for the next purchase.

While I appreciate cute packaging, I can't help thinking about my sister in your examples pictured above. She hates chevron for some reason. Detests it. I like chevron so I kind of look at her like she's grown two heads every time she complains about it, but I'm just saying what's pretty and cute to you may not be enticing to the customer. If you want to go beyond kraft and white cardboard, I'd be very careful -- solids is all I can think of right now. I'm not a girl who goes for animal prints. 15 years or so ago I was a regular customer of a home based business distributor who put all her customer's purchases in animal print bags. It didn't disuade me from going back to her, but I also couldn't get those bags out of my world fast enough. <shrug> I just don't care for it? Anyway - my point being, if I have one, you're never going to please anyone, so I'd find an economical and easily recycleable solution.

Also meant to say that a lot of my mailed packages are left on full display on my front porch unfortunately because I work during the day. I actually get a bit nervous when the package is in a really pretty box and I see that on the doorbell camera AND I'm not planning to be home for another 7 hours. Too enticing to porch pirates maybe?

The bubble mailer and a non-descript flat rate box/black bag would be more than sufficient for me. I'd smile at the thank you sticker, but it wouldn't make me want to buy more or less from you in the future. The scented tissue paper would be a huge turnoff, though. I'm not necessarily scent sensitive myself, but I don't want my products (especially if they were the kind of products you sell) to retain a "light scent".

I don't care about "pretty touches" but discretion is important to me.
I'd prefer a box if the item being shipped is at all obviously phallic and doesn't come packaged in a straight sided box itself.
One time, many years ago, my *friend* ordered a gigantic dong from Adam & Eve.
And it arrived in a large bubble mailer.
But was easily recognizable as phallic by dirt/ink smudges the package had gotten through going through the mail, which essentially outlined this item.
But the best part was that the package was too large to fit in the mail slot, so the mailman knocked on the door, waited for *my friend* to open the door, and passed this bubblemailer dong over like a relay race baton.

I like nice packaging.
I bought a little necklace from an Etsy seller last year for a gift. It wasn't expensive but it came in a nice gift box with tissue paper and a small handwritten thank you note. I was very impressed. I remember this business now and have referred a few people. The normal Etsy/ eBay orders I do are quite faceless and forgettable.
So yes, while I don't think you need to go crazy I do think having good packaging bis important to success.

I love pretty packaging for special purchases! It’s all part of the buying experience imho and whereas it wouldn’t, in itself, entice me to buy something, it’s likely to make me think of a particular company above others when I’m next in the market for something.
There is a craft company over here called Art From The Heart. They wrap all their items in red tissue paper (reusable), tied with twine (reusable) and a little heart charm. Those little touches are enough of a memory jogger to make me think of them first every time I’m looking for crafty items. There’s another company I have used a few times that uses good quality boxes in a pretty turquoise, with hinged lids with magnetic closures and a ribbon stuck on. The boxes are pretty enough and sturdy enough to use around the home or to wrap gifts.
I wouldn’t want my vitamins from Amazon or my tin opener from the kitchen shop to be in anything other than a Jiffy bag but special purchases need special (unscented) packaging please. It’s all part of the comany’s Branding and makes me remember you.

While the gift bags are cute, they aren't something that would sway my decision to purchase again. I think you could get away with just putting the thank you sticker on the invoice, wrapping the products up in a pink tissue and skipping the bags.

The light scent tissue paper would turn me off from ordering again. Scents can trigger my migraines. The scent could linger on the product even after I threw out the tissue. I've gotten things in coloured padded envelopes, nice extra touch with no extra waste. If I was buying in person a pretty bag is nice vs a white plastic grocery bag feeling one. I wouldn't want a bunch of packaging I was just going to throw out.

Pretty paper makes me happy. I love when I get something in the mail that looks like the sender made an effort. I know, shallow. But it is just one of those things I like.
