I'm reposting this so everyone can see and read it . And we wonder why people are losing hope.. 27% cuts: -Social Security Administration this would not be a killer for me, although it would hurt a bit. It will be devastating for some people, particularly children , disabled and seniors... The following could cost lives, but definitely will hurt families, again particularly Children!! The pro-life party is showing their total lack of caring for others. Life truly does not matter to them nor their followers!! -Nutrition assistance for poor newborns -Money to ensure our drinking water is safe -Most federal education money -Federal cancer and stroke research News Flash: The “Pro-life Party says “Fuck You” to newborns, anyone who drinks non-bottled water, anyone going to public schools, and everyone with cancer.”

Guess the bubble has burst for Prime Time ~ Oregon beating Colorado 42-0. We switched from the game at halftime to watch Bama/Ol Miss because it was out-of-hand. But, Colorado’s story has been good for college football - it has generated a lot of excitement and hope, which is what makes the sport so addictive.

I mean... I guess? We already went through one Presidential election where Biden was the candidate and his stutter/speech/age/mental faculties were a major issue. The stutter, his gaffes and his struggle with public speaking were talked about ad nauseum. And if you weren't paying attention during the election of 2020 when the very future of our nation was on the line, why are you suddenly paying attention today, 9 months before the general election season officially kicks off? ETA: You as in general you, not you as in cindyupnorth. I know you've been paying attention, lol! In defense of those who didn't know/remember, for many of us, 2020 was a long time ago. I do recall his stutter coming up quite a bit during the election, now that you mention it, but since that election, I've had my mother fight and beat breast cancer, my father fall ill and die from ALS, been a primary caretaker for my grandpa until his death, had a job change, currently undertaking a huge house update in preparation for a move. My brain opted to dedicate storage and processing to my own life's challenges instead of remembering the speech impediment of a president. 🤷♀️ I just want to say that I am sorry you have had such an incredibly hard road with your family these past three years. I am sorry for your losses and proud of your mom! (((Hugs)))

I’ve been struggling with several 6th graders in my class who are homophobic and angry because I won’t validate their view that “there are only 2 genders.” The irony being that they are people of color (the only white people in my classroom are myself and one student). They showed their disgust when I put up a Pride flag this week - which includes the additional colors for gender and POC. We had a class discussion during morning meeting about ALL people being WELCOME in our classroom and that we welcome them for who they are. I saw this shirt in a photo that another psychologist was wearing and went and hunted it down and ordered it. Will wear it to school regularly. I am hoping that it comes in in time for a “longest table” event that a Korean church is holding at my school next weekend. nicefrogtees.com/product/fortunate-others-build-longer-table-not-taller-fence-shirt/6ht graders are still quite young and most are not "worldly" or live in some sort of bubble, especially if they are from a different ethnic group. Calling them homophobic is rude as you are the teacher. Tolerance also means to accept those who may not be as evolved as you are. They are in grade 6, still little kids. I have never told them that they are homophobic, so I am not sure how that is rude. 🤷♀️ The statements they have made reflect that they are currently afraid of people who are LGBTQ+ and who are non-cis. Your definition of tolerance is the one that the right conveniently uses to try to get others to support their own intolerance (usually when tantruming against pushback on bigoted statements made and want to remain out-there unchallenged). Tolerance does NOT equal unquestioning acceptance. I can accept my students as people (including these two) without tolerating anti-LGBTQ+, racist, sexist, anti-Christian, anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic, classist, etc., beliefs and statements that they might make. It isn’t a hard concept. Frighteningly, 6th graders, for the most part, are worldly. ☹️ More worldly than me in some things. The internet, cell phones, and social media - especially Tik Tok - have blown away any kind of bubble. We even had an issue with 5th grade students sexting each other in a school in our district a couple of years ago which I know out about because a friend teaches there.

Have a blast! I can’t wait to hear about it.
We are taking our 6th graders to a local camp that has a ropes course, archery, and a zip line in a couple of weeks. It is only for a very long day, however (we don’t get back to school until 7 pm). Teachers don’t have to do anything but hang out and be there “in case.”

Love the shirt but I'd NEVER put up a pride/poc/gender flag in my room nor would I wear that particular shirt for school. It opens up a can of worms that I won't touch with a 10 foot pole because I value my job and don't need to become a target of those who see differently. Instead I make sure that I am aware of what my kids are saying/doing to others and I call them out when they aren't being kind in general. I accept all my kids as they are and have conversations with them and a few others at a time if they want/need to talk. My kids know I'm a safe space without me needing to put it out there to possibly become a target of pissed of repubs. Our school district, thank heaven, has recently (within the past month) taken a vocal stand supporting LGBTQ+ students pushing back against our governor. The superintendent herself wrote a letter to all the parents and staff which included: Another letter she wrote in the spring included: When I went to our school counselor last week with my concerns, she offered me the flag from her school-purchased stash of them. 4 of the 6 sixth-grade teachers now have pride flags up. I didn’t have one up when I taught 3rd grade last year, because those students were too young to have those conversations. My 6th graders keep bringing it up, so ready to have someone offer support. So, in my school district, I am safe publicly supporting ALL students. And I thank the people in my community for supporting our superintendent and school board, unlike a school district close by.

Oh no Elaine. I am so sad to hear this about your rebound Covid. Can your doctor give you specific medicine for your symptoms ? Go Buckeyes Go ! Besides Paxlovid, not much to do besides Tylenol/ibuprofen for the headache and saline/guafenisin (sp?) for congestion. Darn viruses!!! If the Buckeyes win, that will help my mood, but I don’t give us a great chance. GO BUCKS!!!

I think you’re conflating issues by posting the polls. Of course we’re concerned about his age. Who wouldn’t be? But we’ll still vote for him because he’s our nominee. It’s that simple. No other Democrat is running and the GOP candidates are Trump or his lunatic back up singers. I’ll tell you this - if the GOP were to nominate a candidate with the policies of John McCain or Mitt Romney today, they would win an election against Biden. But y’all are stuck in some carnival horror house of insanity with your candidates these days. I can’t reiterate this strongly enough.

I, unfortunately, am one of the 10-13% who gets a rebound load of the virus after finishing Paxlovid. ☹️ On Sunday, when I had finished my Paxlovid, I still had a very faint positive test. But, the CDC said I was safe to go to work masked. My class was so far behind after I missed 3 days the week before, so I’ve been in teaching masked all week. Yesterday, I woke up feeling really crummy and congested, so I tested and I am very strongly positive again. Woke up today with a massive headache and no sense of taste or smell. So, no leaving the house for me for the rest of the 3-day weekend - our school district is taking Yom Kippur off. It is the first time in my long life that I have officially been given Yom Kippur off. It is the first time our school district has taken it off as a holiday. They are doing a good job of spreading the religious holidays around this year (Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Hindu). COVID is still very much here in the USA and it can kick your butt. My dh had a very mild case, but I am struggling (given my history with cancer and chemo, not too surprising). I am so upset that I came down with it just 1 week before the new vaccine was made available. I firmly believe that I finally got it because It was just over a year since my last booster and my immunity was waning. Get the vaccine!!!

I had several sets of identical twins in class. One set I couldn't ever fully tell apart and it killed me. They kept saying one had a different freckle. They were covered in freckles. I told the mom at conferences that I was really struggling with it and she just laughed and said that their dad, 10 years later also had a hard time telling them apart. Twins are often born at different weights, so maybe size will be a factor. Would a tiny arm or ankle bracelet work? We have several identical twins in our 120 student 6th grade class. I have one pair that has been in our school since kindergarten and have always been in different classrooms, and this is the first year they are together in the same room. Teachers used to tell them apart because 1 had pierced ears and the other didn’t. Guess what? The other got pierced ears over the summer. It took me 4 weeks to tell them apart and the only reason I can is because 1 has let her hair grow 1/2 inch longer. It is a slight difference and I still make occasional mistakes. All the other identical twins in 6th grade (and the school) are quite easy to tell apart - which has been my experience in education over the years. I will bet that there will also be temperament difference that help the OP’s niece tell her boys apart.

After asking for a strep test when I had a fever and raging sore throat and two kids with actual diagnosed Strep and being denied cuz my husband was deployed and I was probably just tired and a bit whiny…I don’t fucking ask doctors for anything. They’ll just tell me it’s cuz my period is whatever or I’m overweight and peri menopausal anyways. 😬🙄 Sorry have long Covid, ignored, sick of established medicine here. Fuck even when my blood pressure was past stroke level in the ER dr was an asshole lecturing me insisting I must have quit medication and was a horrible non compliant patient. Never had a med diagnosed or extreme high blood pressure before that day but no one wants to hear “post COVID” anything. Just overweight non compliant belligerent patient. 🙄 I did ask my OB about a c section with my first. She insisted even with his foot in my vagina and amniotic fluid leaking for a week that it’d still be a normal vaginal delivery. He was delivered via emergency c section 2 hours later. I’m so sorry. It all sounds awful. I think that every member of Congress - both houses - should have to be on Tricare ( and their family members) with no option for outside healthcare for 6 months. All members and their families. Let them experience it - truly experience it - for half a year. I’ll bet it would be fixed then. That said, I am lucky that we were able to wangle it to have Walter Reed as our assigned MTC and my experiences there are more positive, except when I was forced to have the plastic surgeon who ended up in the last Borat movie because he was/is so awful and offensive for my mastectomy reconstruction.

It is interesting that the house is only 18 years old. The staging is bizarre in some ways. The large top floor room with two full dining room tables?

Oh no. This isn’t what I hoped to read when I re-opened this thread. ☹️ I hope that you are picking up Paxlovid as I type. I’ll send extra prayers that Rachel doesn’t end up in the hospital and that the antivirals make a big difference. Thanks Elaine, I am beyond frustrated right now. Turns out the service who 'assessed' her yesterday did nothing/ made no notes and her specialist nurse is unable to access the treatment- it's centralised. She's now back in a queue to speak to another clinician and I can't see this being resolved today 😥 why does everything have to be so hard?! OMG. I would be crying if I were both of you right now. Can she just go to an emergency room? Do ER’s in the UK prescribe meds? She needs help NOW since she is in so much pain and just had an immunosuppressant. I know that she doesn’t want to be admitted, but if that is what it takes to get help… Here in the US, they still treat you more quickly in the ER if you have COVID. I usually have to wait a few hours to get into a room at the ER - even with a broken bone - and it is an 8-12 hour ordeal. But on Saturday, I was in a room within 25 minutes and on an IV within 90 minutes and was out the door with a bag of medicine 3 hours after that. It was miraculous.

It is like cheating, but I buy the bread machine mixes from The Prepared Pantry: www.preparedpantry.com/collections/breadsEverything is premeasured. You just add water, some mixes call for 3 tablespoons melted butter, pour in mix, cut open and add yeast, and press the button. A perfect loaf every time. I made a loaf of pumpernickel last night in my bread machine from a package of their mix that was 1.5 years old - it still came out perfect. I can’t recommend them more highly. It used to be that they were more expensive than buying loaves at the store, but these days a loaf of Pepperidge farms goes for between $5-6, so it isn’t really more costly. They usually have a bread mix of the week on sale for about half-price. My family personally loves their Loaded Baked Potato Bread, Prairie Sunflower Bread, Dill Rye, and Pumpernickel.

You all have been so amazing and generous- thank you! It's 7.10 am here and I'm clockwatching until either the service we contacted yesterday or her specialist nurse contacts us. She's had a terrible sleepless night with a banging headache, back and leg pain.Totally different symptoms to the rest of us. Nothing I've tried has helped. I'm praying her nurse will take charge and get her the antiviral treatment and that she doesn't have to be admitted, as she had a dreadful experience the last time she went in 😩 The timing is awful as she literally had her Tysabri ( immunosuppressent) 3 days before she was diagnosed. Oh no. This isn’t what I hoped to read when I re-opened this thread. ☹️ I hope that you are picking up Paxlovid as I type. Oh no! I hope that she is able to come through quickly. I will hold her in my prayers. I’m in the midst of battling this new variant - one of my students gave it to me - and it has been really rough on me. I spent yesterday in the ER hooked up to an IV for fluids and anti-nausea drugs. One of the big issues with this variant is the gastro-intestinal issues it causes. It can cause severe diarrhea and nausea. Which can lead to dehydration. I’ve lost 5 pounds since Tuesday. I woke up for work with a 102 fever and tested positive on Wednesday morning. I had Paxlovid by noon, thanks to a local urgent care. Paxlovid is hard on the liver, that is why they want to check her blood work - you probably know that, though. While my respiratory symptoms are mild - just like a head cold - the digestive issues have been brutal. There is no way I would be able to train for a marathon for another few weeks, at best. I still don’t have the issues under control. I'm so sorry Elaine and will add you to my prayers X She was told it's her kidneys they want to check but tbh both the people she spoke to sounded clueless! I get so cross to still see people saying Covid is 'just a cold'. I'm lucky that despite my high BP and asthma I haven't been too bad, but my daughter is in a completely different position, as you clearly are. I'm really cross that she caught it in our home though- my oldest is out at pubs and clubs several nights a week since his relationship broke up. He lives here on peppercorn rent and acts like he's no part of the family. I've just had a word with him about future expectations but that doesn't help her right now! Funnily enough she has no fever and I didn't get one either. Those too - so, they weren’t completely clueless. But, how frustrating, just the same. I hope she gets the Paxlovid tomorrow, first thing. How frustrating that her blood work isn’t available via computer records today! Big hugs to both of you and a swift kick in the rear to your selfish son.
