I don’t remember really having crushes back in the day although there were people that I loved and still do. I never had posters of individual people that I remember, they were more art, music, etc.
But that said Sam Elliot is my man. Sadly we are all old now…him really old. 😆 A young John Prine was also on my list. Back in the day Jimmy Buffett probably was on there.
In those “olden”days many of the TV shows had pairs of guys…a blond and dark haired. My favorites seemed to run the dark haired, while my best friend typically went for the blonds of the pair, which is nice as we didn’t have to fight about our TV boyfriends. 😆. Starsky, Poncherello, Nick Ryder (Riptide), Magnum, etc. where on my list. I definitely had/have a type and it is a darker haired, Jean wearing, a slightly rough and tumble type person I guess.

I ended up inheriting my great grandmothers classic skylark Not to hijack the thread, but my dad had a 1962 Skylark. He loved that car! He bought it new and had it until the 80's, when California started phasing out leaded gas. There was a buyback program, don't remember if it was city or state run, so he sold it. I still remember what the interior of the car was like, and the push button AM radio. Cool car! But, he didn't trust the car enough to let me drive it around L.A. by myself. We had a skylark that my parents almost had to return under the lemon law. They had more problems with that car in the beginning. Once they finally fixed it or eventually replaced the entire engine (can’t remember which ended up happening) it was fine. My best friend’s family had a skyhawk that was kind of beat up that the kids used…we lovingly referred to that as the sky pigeon. 😄

I graduated in the early eighties. We had driver’s Ed in highschool. It was an elective and a semester long. It included class time and then driving time. The driving time was with two other students. Because there was such a want for the class and limited driving space, they gave preference to people with earlier birthday’s for the first semester. Those of us with later birthday’s got the 2nd semester.
You did not need to take this class to get a license but you did get a lower insurance rate.
We had no requirements to get a license other than having a valid permit, which just required being at least 15 and taking a written test. Many kids (farm/rural/small state ) had been driving for awhile on private property before turning 15.

I remember those. I really like those also . Too funny that most people don’t even have a phone book at home these days. 😆 I think he actually went to a pay phone and used the phone book there. You might find those two things in a museum but not in real life anymore. He did go to a phone booth, or like a pay phone in a cafe or some public place. There would be absolutely no way to do that show anymore. I will admit to still having one in a drawer I think. Remember when they even use to give a street address with phone books. I do miss the yellow pages, seemed so much easier, quicker and semi safer than googling businesses in my area. 😉😄

I love them, too. I also love the series that preceded the current one. He used to do 'Everyone has a story' where he drove to a town, opened the phone book (obviously this was awhile back) to a random page, closed his eyes, and pointed to a name. He would look the person up and have them share whatever was unique or interesting. Everyone truly does have a story. I remember those. I really like those also . Too funny that most people don’t even have a phone book at home these days. 😆

With all the news and events happening in the world today so much of the reporting and stories are so saddening, maddening, awful, shocking, disappointing, etc, etc. It can get so overwhelming and heavy sometimes. I just adore watching Steve Hartman’s nice little human interest stories. They always seem to make my day a little brighter when I watch them. So if you are looking for something nice and/or inspiring to watch every now and then and have less than 5 minutes I think his stories are the best. It is a like a little shot of goodness when I need a pick me up. 😄 He does little stories called Kindness 101 - where, with his kids, he revisits some of his older on the road stories. Kindness 101And then his On the Road stories On the road with Steve Hartman

Yes.
I learned to “play” the recorder in grade school in the 70s. I graduated in 1982. My brother leaned in the 80’s. He graduated in 1992. My niece and nephew learned and the are in jr high and highschool right now.
“play” - is actuality perception and not reality. Hahaha.
Hot Cross Buns come roaring back to anyone? 😆
ETA - should have read Merge’s post first. Hahaha.

I would agree that (in my mind) a Po-boy and (I will add) a Cubano are specialty sandwiches…for the lack of a better phrase. I would not include them in a typical grinder/hoagie/sub category even though they fit my description.

😄 agreed. Wow that is so interesting. I have to think we are lazy as we are pretty generic in main term and then you describe. “I’ll have a large grinder, on white, meatball, toasted with cheese”. “I’ll have a medium turkey grinder, on wheat roll with the works and banana peppers”. Or what ever your choice is. Hahaha.

I agree it is strange that he had such an issue understanding what you wanted with the other names. Obviously Philly doesn’t seem to be a prime calling it Grinder area and you can’t be the first to call it by another name, especially at a sandwich shop?

Depends what’s on them so I chose other. If you have a minute at some point and so desire - I would love to hear how you/your area differentiates between names.

I say "sub". Not sure what we used in Pittsburgh because I don't remember this type of sandwich when I was a kid. I went to college in New England so I do know the term "grinder", but I always thought a grinder was a sub with hot meat, vs. cold me for a sub/hoagie... Not sure why I think that though. lol It might be in some areas. We call them all grinders…hot, cold, meat, no meat. 😄

Grinders?! Yup. 😆😆. Not sure why or where it comes from but a lot of people in my area call them Grinders. I am guessing that isn’t going to be a popular response. 😉

Sorry if this is a duplicate. I thought we had this poll before but I couldn’t find it so thought I would ask again. I was talking to someone about what people call subs/grinders/hoagies in different areas (weird topic probably, but we got to it in a roundabout way 😄). I thought most people referred to them as subs but could not remember. What do you call sandwiches on long rolls?
ETA - I refer to them as Grinders as do many in my area. But a variety of names are used.
Thanks for weighing in.

Glad everyone had a great day of viewing. It was exceptional and amazing.
Just an FYi in case some haven’t heard about this, many areas are collecting solar eclipse glasses as there is an organization that takes them and then recycles them to other places in an eclipse path so that everyone can have the opportunity to see one if they can.

I do use CarPlay now and then and use Siri to send a quick text if running late or to do a quick reply, but very very infrequently. I would rather pull over and deal with it if I need to immediately.

I only took one quick picture and it was at totalilty. It didn’t come out anywhere as cool as it was in person but glad I just sat and watched it and enjoyed it.

We had excellent totality viewing I thought. It was a great day. Warm and just some high clouds. It got so cold and quiet for a few minutes. The sky and darkness was so cool and almost eerie. I hope everyone who wanted to was able to view it and enjoyed their experience no matter what they ended up being able to see.

I thought about you and was thinking you were in the perfect range…hahaha. I am in Vermont and we have those darn high clouds coming in from NY so they are going to get to us before you. But it should be so much better than I actually expected it to be and it will be warm! Enjoy!!! How fast can you get here? 😊 We drove up yesterday and already saw some people camped out on the way in. It’s quiet over here in our cove, but DH just went into town and said while in town looks like a July 4th kind of crowd, the grocery store parking lot was packed and all the scenic overlooks look like combat zones lol. I haven’t ventured out today but yesterday I took a quick trip to my parents about an hour away. I was also curious on what the traffic would be as the predicted range has been pretty wide. There certainly weren’t the hordes but there were quite a few more cars and many were out of state plates. I was on roads less traveled so there is that 😆.

Surprisingly ours is looking okay. Quite clear and sunny right now but some possible high thin clouds around eclipse time. They said it shouldn’t obscure but maybe filter it. Fingers crossed they hold off. The wonderful thing is temps are supposed to be in the 50s or higher. All of that is such un-April weather for us, so we are feeling lucky in this area.
Hope everyone watching has great viewing.

It is beautiful. You did a wonderful job. I am in the middle of this process now in my very little townhouse. It has been an at least seven year project up to this point with very little done just because I can’t seem to make any decision. 😬😄. But recently I have at least picked out flooring and have someone working on a quote and plan to replace my cabinets (which I have to do before I do the flooring). A friend has also been helping me work on repainting before I replace my floors. Post and pictures like yours have helped to prod me to get out of my slump and getting working on stuff again, so thank you for posting! Enjoy your new, gorgeous, inviting and reclaimed space! My townhouse isn’t very big. I am so glad I paid someone to do all of the painting. It would have taken forever for me to do it with whatever help I could get. Expensive but definitely worth every dollar! I hope you get your place done soon! I have definitely thought about it and it still isn’t off the table if I don’t get off my butt. 😄 Hahaha There are parts (going up the stairs) that I will have to hire someone to do because of the height and it is well beyond my ability. Therefore I will have the entire upstairs done at that time. It probably more comes down to the laziness of having to get everything out and/or ready for someone to come in and do it all at once. 😄. Thanks for the encouragement!

Well for me it would depend. Coming from small towns and often limited street parking and/or places without much onsite parking there are often places you know you can park and walk. Many times there are public lots or places where there are often a ton of spaces open. If in the industrial park they had a lot of spaces and you were not taking spaces close to the business there…I would, especially if it wasn’t a long visit. If there were only a couple of spaces in that lot then No I wouldn’t park there.
ETA - but I agree with myshelly and would ask about parking when I get inside.
