Costco had a “smart” mug that I was intrigued by - I’m not sure exactly what it does, but did mean to go back to it to look at as a gift option for my fiancé. I’m your son’s age, for what it’s worth! Happy hunting!

What was your… - first dance? - father/daughter? - mother/son?
… And if you were to pick again today, what would you use? Feel free to hit me with recent winners or throwbacks!

It seems as though you needed to vent and get this off your chest. When you’re ready to look at it with fresh eyes, re-read your last post about a small dent in your bumper. If it won’t work to front the money, perhaps thinking about it as a minor issue that isn’t impacting the function of the car might help you wait it out, if you can’t get any further with either insurance company.
As an alternate option, can anyone lend you the deductible amount?

I am not one with firsthand experience, so hopefully one of those peas will chime in - but I wondered if “coming out” is the right term? I am just thinking that I don’t think I’ve heard it related to this scenario so I’d double check that. What a thoughtful thing for you to make a card for her!

I’m an elementary school teacher. At the beginning of each year, we review addition and subtraction with regrouping (borrowing/carrying). I had a parent come in to talk to me about their child and “why I’m teaching her to start all the way on the right” (as in, in the ones place). I’m sure the look on my face was priceless! I gave a graceful explanation but man! 😳

I think here, the sister store to Plato’s is Clothes Mentor. Steph, there is a clothes mentor on Henderson near the thrift stores and I think there may be one in Pickerington or Gahanna. I’ve had good luck on local Facebook groups. Happy selling!

Instead of cookie shapes or molds, what if you found toothpick flags to meet the theme? I can’t think of the term for what I’m thinking of - maybe “cupcake flag”? Check out the Nothing Bundt Cake website for inspiration - they have darling things they just stick in the top of a regular cake.

I think most graduates would be thrilled to receive $$. It's what I usually give, and with the expenses they will have for college, I know it's going to be used on something they want or need. I will say again, a personal note needs to be included, either written on the back on the photo card or inserted into the envelope. I know that graduates like money. My comment about personalization was that there isn't much personalization in what the grad writes in the thank you notes, since everyone sent money. So then I was wondering if people care if the message is hand written or not. Does that make sense? Part of me thinks it is lazy but part of me thinks it is efficient. I think the overwhelming answer here is yes, people think your child needs to write thank you notes. The “body sentence” of the note can be the same, but yes, if I’m giving a gift, I expect a thank you note with my name on it and an ounce of time taken to send.

I’m a firm believer in personalized thank you notes (as in, a note specific to the gift giver). I would think a photo announcement was a cop out and kind of a waste of money. I don’t need another photo of the grad - chances are you already sent one with the invite, and a picture isn’t a thank you. Sorry if that’s harsh 😬.

I’m in for a hard hitting few days this week! Probably not on the 4th itself, but I’ll be back at it on the 5th. Looking forward to having some company ☺️.

Pretty much as the poll states - do (or did) your parents know your household income? Do you know your child/their spouses’? Don’t want to color the poll with a story - truly curious!

Popcorn is always a big hit in my family, and that Carmel/Cheese corn sounds delicious. Other ideas: GORP (Good old raisins and peanuts - add sunflower seeds and M&Ms), cheese and crackers (could get fancy with that or keep it basic), pretzels, cut carrots and celery, Chex mix. Enjoy!

Boston, Maine, or New York would be my picks from the options you’re tossing around. Washington and New York will both be really hot but maybe worth it. I would strike New Orleans and anything in the south (Charleston and Savannah are great options, but not in August!).

I'd like to test both of my dogs' DNA so I am hoping Embark will be on sale. We did the Wisdom Panel years ago on my older dog but I want to see what Embark will show. I'm also interested in getting a Ring doorbell. Here’s a link for the Embark test: amzn.to/3gLwXyE

For the past two years, I've bought a combo of them from both ALDI and Dollar Tree for our front and back yards. The DT ones are really small, but ALDI has some larger ones in two different styles. It's a seasonal item of course so they sell out fast, but my ALDI still has some. I am looking for a new piece of checked luggage so something in the 26-29" range. Preferably with spinner wheels but must be wheeled at least. Lightweight as it will be used not only for the flight, but also on an off multiple trains. It looks like there are quite a few luggage options. I’m having trouble grabbing a link, but from the main deals page, I see a whole category of luggage. Good luck!

I am looking for spinning shoes (Nike or Tiems) and pedals with spd or delta clips to swap out with the pedals that came on my faux-Peloton.
Happy shopping, everyone!

You need to go back to court. Possibly with a new lawyer.

I have been many times with my kiddos. Hands down our favorite place to stay is the Park Lane. It is right by Central Park. There are subway stations right outside the door. We also love that there is a Whole Foods nearby with a great food court for an easy meal. Do you mind sharing approx. what you normally pay per night here? I just checked the fall dates I’m considering and it seems much higher than some others I’ve looked at - any thoughts?

J Crew (and J crew factory), Loft, Francesca’s, Anthropologie, and Macy’s would be my starting spots... Maybe Lilly Pulitzer? Vineyard Vines?

Not a lawyer, but no way would I sign that. Contact a lawyer now, because she may need to go to small claims to get her deposit.

Noticed your OSU profile pic - is this in Columbus? I had a horrendous service department experience a few weeks ago and wonder if it’s the same place.

I have several co-workers who say “We’ll see you” or “We’ll see ya” when exiting a room that only includes the two of us. If you’re not part of a group exiting a space, there is no we! I am not going anywhere and you are leaving solo.

This seems odd from a few angles - 1. Yes, I agree with the request to ask for the phone number from the voicemail. Check your bill. 2. Did the student not know about this assignment? It seems off that they managed multiple assignments for the other classes, as you explained, but somehow completely missed the largest assignment of the semester? There were no reminders posted, directions, rubric, etc. loaded onto the course page?
