I was just reading that Taylor Swift was named after James Taylor-didn't know that. I was named after Debbie Reynolds--along with about half the other girls my age. I sort of named my DD after the mom on Bewitched--but was a little afraid she might be thought of as a witch (well that only happened during middle school lol). Named my son sort of after a kid I went to school with that I thought was good looking, cool and smart. No crush or anything, just liked that combination.

I was named after my mom’s twin sister, and indirectly my mom (they had similar names). We always shared a special bond.

Yup, after my great great Grandmother. In Sweden, her name is spelled Thyra. When she came to the US, she dropped the H, but pronounced it the same (Tear-ah). Thank God she did that. I go through enough hell getting people to say my name correctly, it would be a whole new level if I had that H in there lol Funny enough my dad was at the cemetery yesterday and sent me a photo of her headstone.

I love these threads!! My son was named after my husband (DH's middle name is DS's first name), and his middle name is after a cousin I lost in his early adult-hood. Daughter 1's first name represents my heritage and she shares my middle name. Younger daughter is named after a place that held good memories from my childhood (also from the Bible), and her middle name is Grace because of her pregnancy/birth story. All 3 names coordinate with each other without being overly cheesy. My Mom, sister and niece all share a middle name.

I was named after my two maternal great grandmothers-Virginia and Katherine. I've always gone by "Ginny" which is short for Virginia. I liked the name Katherine and hated the name Virginia.
My husband's mother's middle name is also Katherine, and her daughter's middle name is Katherine. My sister in law named her daughter Katherine. Katherine now has a daughter named Katherine who goes by "Kate."
When I had my daughter, my mother in law strongly hinted that her middle name should be Katherine and we obliged. (Now I'm glad we did, but at the time I really wanted to name her something else).
I kind of hope that if my daughter has a daughter she uses Katherine for a middle name, but I'm not going to put any pressure on her to do so.

I was named after my Aunt, my mom’s sister. I’m a lot like her in many ways. She passed a number of years ago and I inherited her good dishes. I can’t wait to use them again on Thanksgiving Day 🦃

My mother swears she named me after the Mona Lisa. She was washing dishes one night and overheard the news on the TV that the Mona Lisa was coming to NY for a showing. She decided if she ever had a baby girl, she would name her Lisa. The Mona Lisa did come to NY by Jackie Kennedy's persuasion about 2 years before I was born.
There was a popular soap character on As The World Turns named Lisa and it was the most popular girls name for most of the 60's.

Both my mom and dad. Dad, Dale. Mom, Eileen. So I am Daleen. (Pronounced Duh leen') I have been explaining it for nearly 70 years. Almost no one gets it right. Usually they put an R in it. My 7 younger sibs all have normal names.

My middle name is Anne after both grandmothers, My maternal grandmother had Ann as her middle name, my paternal grandmother had Anne as her first name. For my first name Dad just pulled out of the air. Weeks before my birth they had chosen the name Penny. Penny Anne. Mom said that when Dad came into her room after seeing me for the first time (back in the days where fathers didn’t even THINK of coming into the delivery room) he told her he had seen me and that I was worth more than a Penny - insert AWWWW here. And he wanted to change it. They settled on Peggy instead. Unfortunately, Mom had a bossy maternity nurse and when Mom told her the name they chose, she wrote Margaret on the form. Mom said, no, not Margaret, just Peggy. The nurse looked down at Mom and told her that she could call me Peggy in informal situations, but the proper name should be Margaret. Mom tried to argue, but she was feeling exhausted and hormonal. Then Dad walked in the room. He asked why Mom was in tears. The nurse tried to explain that they needed to write Margaret on my birth certificate and then friends and family could call me Peggy if they wanted it that way. Dad took the form out of her hands and saw that the nurse had written in Margaret. Dad ripped it up and told the nurse to have her supervisor bring him another one. Dad was pissed that this nurse had mom in tears. Dad was pretty unflappable. So, I got the name Peggy on my birth certificate. An odd twist: My friends at my last place of employment called me Meg for some reason. I had never told them the Margaret story. I guess Meg is also an accepted form of Peg? Anyway, by this time in my life, I realized I really liked Meg and I started spelling it Megg because I’m so used to the two gs in my first name. They called me that the remainder of the time I worked there and I still have some online accounts under Megg. I am toying with the idea of introducing myself as Megg when I move to Oregon where only 2 or 3 people will know me. My mother was born as Annie Mary Lastname. During playtime with the neighborhood kids, Mom was the youngest and would have “Nanny Nanny Annie Goat” called out at her as they played chase. She ended up liking Nanny and ended up calling herself Nancy, no middle name. So from Annie Mary to Nancy for her, from Penny to Peggy to Megg for me. I’m just happy that none of us got the family female name that so many of our older relatives on Mom’s side sport. Muriel. My grandmother is Muriel and she named her first daughter Murial. Thankfully Mom’s sister became the final Murial. Dad’s traditional female name was even worse. Olga. They Were originally from the Ukraine and Olga was the popular name. My Dad’s sister got stuck with it and that was the last of the family saddled with that name.

I was a little white girl born to thoroughly southern parents in Mobile, Alabama in the early sixties...
named after Angela Davis of the Black Panthers.
They only had a boy's name picked out for me. Then I turned out to be a girl. My first name is a family name and quite common. My middle name, Angela, was chosen on the spur-of-the-moment by my mama after hearing the news of Bobby Seales and Angela Davis being arrested. She liked the name and picked it on the spot the night before we were discharged from the hospital.

A hospital nurse tried to make my MIL put the proper name Sarah on the birth certificate. Thankfully, Sally was my MIL's 7th child and she wouldn't have any of that! But the nurse's attitude towards my MIL that day has remained a story that still gets told at family parties even though my MIL has passed and Sally is in her 60s. LOL

Yes, my father named me after Yvonne DeCarlo as he thought she was so beautiful. DD is not named after anyone as when she was born, we were having family issues (not us, my grandfather, which affected us down the line). DS was named after his paternal grandfathers (both their first names).

I had two grandmothers.. Edith and Theresa. my parents were going to name me Edith, after mom's mom, but she objected. so they named me after the other grandma, Theresa. Grandma Theresa was dead and could not object. it is pronounced sort of the German way.. not with a short e.. so my entire life, no one remembers or knows how to pronounce my name correctly or spell it correctly. my little sister was given the name Edith (and she actually looked more like grandma edith and I look a lot like grandma theresa).
we had relatives of dh's campaigning at our children's birth about names... we wanted to give them names that were spellable and pronouceable.. so our son was Ben (no one we know had that name). and Gwen... then a friend called after the twins' birth and we agreed to use her name.. so the twins were Gwen and Rebecca. I liked a relative's name--Gwenna--but it did not go with our last name.
Gwen almost has never met anyone else named gwen. my mom was 100% welsh american.

Not me, but my mom was. Her name is Kay Frances, which both happen to be last names within the family from ages ago. My youngest is named Martin after my grandfather and dad. The funny thing is he looks just like my dad and has the same personality.
