I hate them passionately. I haveADHD and an auditory processing problem (they go hand in hand pretty frequently.)
I have a very difficult time separating foreground from background. So if you’re speaking to me and a wind chime is near by, they are equally loud/important to my brain. To be fair, I struggle with anything that makes unnecessary noise.

I love them and have a set. But with the size of our property and the position of the houses on the lots and where I have ours hung, it can’t be heard by the neighbors.

I'm in between.
While I actually like the sound of the wind chime itself, if there's an occasional breeze and it get's activated, then it's nice...BUT if it's a windy day and they are getting blown around and constantly making a sound and the bits are banging into each other that I'm definitely on the 'hate' side.

I love wind chimes. The metal melodic kind. My MIL bought me a wooden flamingo with bamboo chimes. I hate it. I hate the sound of the wood clucking together. But I can't not display them. So I put them out and left them out for the winter. We will see if they survive. Fingers crossed they don't ...

I love them! We have a beautiful set my dd gave us when we got married. They are relatively small so they don't make a lot of noise, but I do like to hear them.

I’m a hater when it comes to wind chimes.
Fortunately, I live in Oklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plains and the lines to the wind chimes quickly become an inter tangled mess and have to be untangled frequently. Most wind chime owners eventually give up and toss their wind chimes.

I both love and hate them. I like the tuned metal ones in a non windy environment where they only sound on occasion. Here in Oklahoma it is rarely not windy and they move constantly. That drives me bonkers. I have mine hanging inside my house. They don't ring in my house unless a person bumps them.
One night I heard them. Scared the crap out of me because that meant someone was in my house! Took me awhile to realize the sound was coming from outside. My new neighbors had hung a very similar set in a shielded place on their patio but the wind changed directions and was making them ring. They were gone the next day fortunately.

Love wind chimes and have them on the back porch. I live in the city, houses are close. Noise is a given. There is no “quiet”. I also live on a busy street so cars, dogs, hawks, helicopters, sirens, church bells, racing motorcycles are the noises I hear daily. I’d rather hear my chimes, church bells and hawks, but I don’t get to choose unless I move out of the city. I realize not everyone loves the sound of chimes, but that’s part of living in an dense neighborhood. You have to hear noise from your neighbors.

I’m not a fan. Kinda funny story tho... my dad, who passed away suddenly in July, HATED wind chimes. Would take them down and toss if my mom tried to hang them. After he passed.. you guessed it, someone sent me memorial ones with his name on them. I laughed thinking about what he would say about that!

Noise pollution. They make me want to scream.
Aside: I think I got into a fight on the old 2peas about Wind Chimes once! Some lady could not understand why other people might not like them. Does anyone remember a big thread about this year ago?

It depends on the pitch. We’ve got a single bell chime with a deep pitch—more like a gong. The high pitched tinkly ones are annoying to me. I do like the deep resonant tones from larger chimes. I'd pick wind chimes over dogs barking any day! Yes. Yes. Yes. Aside: I think I got into a fight on the old 2peas about Wind Chimes once! Some lady could not understand why other people might not like them. Does anyone remember a big thread about this year ago? That was probably back in the day where even a relatively benign thread could go south quickly. Lots of threads got heated over the stupidest stuff.

I hate them and think they are really annoying. Yes, living in town you are subjected to noise from your neighbors. But wind chimes are constant and the noise occurs at all hours. IMO, it is extremely rude to have them out.

It’s a good thing I live far from neighbors. I love both the sound of wind chimes and the sound of my hounds howling. I never was one to fit in well with everyone else. 😂😂

I'm ok with them - don't love them, don't hate them. But DH absolutely HATES them. Therefore no windchimes outside of our house!

Love them and have a lot. From the small tinkly sound ones, bamboo set from Hawaii, a shell set, and a big set that play the Westminster chimes really loud! Love listening to them in the windy weather.

IMO, it is extremely rude to have them out. I was thinking the same thing. We are in a dense neighborhood, which to me means being more considerate of the noise I make, not less. But for me, being a good neighbor means not letting my dogs bark, not playing my music so loud my neighbors have to listen to it, not letting our kids go outside and scream when they were small, etc.

Funny you should ask... I am currently sitting on my mother’s porch. There is a very slight breeze and the 3 wind chimes are lightly chiming - it is so peaceful and harmonious. I only hear the leaves and the chimes-I could sit here all day. I love them

I have a low sound set hanging on my patio. In the area they are, it has to be a strong gust to make them sound. They are melodious and soothing. To me. What my behind me neighbor thinks? Don't know, don't care. Wouldn't be able to hear what he thinks over his dog barking all.the.time!

Having lived in a city in a very dense area, I don't consider wind chimes as normal noise from a neighbor. I consider wind chimes as more of a "I only care about myself" noise. Like people who constantly foist their excessive noise upon their neighbors rather than show consideration.

I cn take or leave wind chimes, although I like the one I made from coloured glass when I used to do lead lighting. I prefer crystal suncatchers. I used to design and make my own.

You'll appreciate this story. We had our old wind chime in a location that's sheltered and won't sound unless there's a crazy huge gust of wind (very rare and even then it would ring softly), or you manually sound it. Anyhow, one night it started going off... not the sound of an animal crashing into it, but almost like someone or some thing was strumming it. I refused to look out because I did not want to see the gremlin/ghost that was playing with the bars. Exactly!! They’re like a demon warning system. Well if that’s what they are, it might be good to have them in a ring around my house! (Except at my house, the ‘demons’ would probably just be squirrels...)

I love them. We have several. It honestly never occurred to me that there were people who didn’t like them until I read a thread here several years ago that someone mentioned. I remembered being shocked at all the haters (no, I didn’t argue with anyone about it). It just seems like such delicate, soothing, pretty sound. I never imagined some could find it unpleasant. I’m grateful that we are not really close to our neighbors. I would hate to have to remove ours.
Because people who love them feel they sound like music, not noise. It would be like someone asking why you have a noisy CD on while you’re relaxing.

I hate them. The neighbor has some on their back deck and they drive me crazy when I have my window open. I don't love noise at all.
