I finished my Attic24 Dune blanket and a continuous granny square throw. I’ve got yarn kits for two more blankets on their way from Wool Warehouse so I pushed to finish these. Beautiful! Is the stitch soft against your skin? The Shell one.

I am going to start a new craft hobby this month. I know I want to try embroidery but I am waiting on that a bit because I have something specific in mind for my first project and I can’t get it right now. So I am debating between knitting and crochet. I was watching beginner tutorials and reading opinions about each trying to decide which might be better for me/what I like more/ease of learning on own. Any opinions? I am going to make a scarf- a chunky one preferably. I would probably only do scarves and blankets - I would love to do a hat, etc but it seems too complicated! I am a better knitter than I am crocheter (knitting since I was a child, self taught crocheter for 2/3 years) yet I crochet more because I like how quickly things can make up and there seems to be more appealing patterns. Do you have a local wool shop where they will let you have a play or maybe offer tutorials to help you decide? YouTube is a great resource for learning and practicing too. I bet you will be making hats before you know it!

Do you have a local wool shop where they will let you have a play or maybe offer tutorials to help you decide? YouTube is a great resource for learning and practicing too. I bet you will be making hats before you know it! I have crocheted for about 10 years, and recently decided to try knitting. I found it pretty easy to learn the basics of knitting (cast on, knit, purl, garter stitch and stockinette stitch), but I wasn’t as happy with the finished product as I am with crochet. Crochet also seams to work up much faster for me. This is a bonus because I get distracted by other patterns and pretty yarns, so I can finish a crochet project quickly, then move on to the next thing. gillyp has some good suggestions of visiting a local shop to do some research, maybe asking questions and looking at books, and check out YouTube as well. Maybe you can take a beginner class on both knit and crochet, then decide which suits you best. Some projects, like hats, look intimidating, but once you get comfortable with the basics, you could easily learn to make them! Im sure you will enjoy your new hobby, whichever you choose!

I'm plugging away on the Hydrangea blanket.
I made this one recently and decided to keep it for myself. It was so easy, but so gorgeous.

Thank you for the opinions about knitting and crocheting. I looked online and a nice local craft store has classes for beginners for both knitting and crochet. They also have a weekly free time to come and work on your projects with others - I could see that being valuable for a new beginner! I think I will go down this this weekend and look around and decide which class to take. Hopefully someday I’ll be posting a picture of a project here.

elaine love your colour combo, I don't think we are alone with the learning curve on this square. I'm not on Facebook but had a look at the public Facebook page and there are a number of charts being added by some the crafters. I had to write row five and seven out in my own shorthand because I kept losing my place when I looked from the pattern to the yarn and back again. To anyone curious this square is only ten rows and it's quite a time thief. I've finished one square, I've seen others posting photos of ten sqs done. I'm going at my own pace, I'm doing it to relax not feel stressed! How are you coming along? I’ve been crocheting 3ish hours per day and only have 8 done so far. It is faster, but still an hour per square. The switching back and forth every other stitch on rounds 7 and 9 is the huge time sink. And then having to check the tension a number of times on the color that you have been carrying on all the rounds that involve color changes to be sure it isn’t too taught or too loose. I wish she had started with a shape that was possible to finish in 2 weeks. Only people who have gobs of time will be able to come close to finishing the 36 squares in the first clue. I hate that I am going to be behind from the get go even though I am consistently spending time at it.

elaine a square and a half!! The reason is because I decided to crochet an animal blanket for the Australian wildlife effort. Two strands of yarn with a bigger hook than I'm use to, it's a bit hard on my shoulders for some reason.

That is stunning!!!!!! Wow! I'm almost done with the rows on my quilt. I have 1 more to do, I'll do that tomorrow. Then starting the columns. My son was cute tonight, I laid it out so I could get the next row of squares laid out. I pin them on to make it easier so I can just crochet each row without stopping to figure out the next square. Anyway, my son wanted to help, so he helped me straighten it all out. He was so careful and took his job very seriously. He keeps saying this is HIS blankey, so he is very invested in my work lol It's not perfect, at all. I'd never gift this. But for my very first quilt after just learning how to crochet I am proud of it 😁

tyra your little guy is so cute! I knew you could do this blanket. When it's all said and done, you won't see any mistakes. I made mistakes too and it's all part of hand crafting an item.

I remember a while back there were temperature blankets making the rounds that were rows of crochet or knitting. I just saw a quilted one - here is the link to the instagram post if anyone is interested. It's a free pattern.

LOVE the idea of a temperature quilt! I like the half square triangles with high/low for each day. I’d make it king size so I’m not using tiny shapes. Our bed is a Cal King. It needs a new cover. If I do it, I’ll do the first year DH and I were together,

I picked up a crochet hook tonight. I already have some yarn to use. I’m going to try to follow along with YouTube and see if I can get anything going. If not, I’ll sign up for the crochet class.

I am such a bipolar crafter! I swear I'm up early this morning. Got all my coffee drank and my well thought out plans made for today. And I just keep hearing that brand new whirl in my ear going...please please make something with me. I have two other projects going so it's not like I need to start a third. But damn the force is strong with this one. I am leaning toward this V is for vintage shawl. www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/v-for-vintage

Do it! Do it! Do it! Only because I promised myself before Christmas not to start anything new till I’d finished some wips but yarn arrived yesterday . . . And I started something last night so I need an accomplice to stop me feeling bad. Now I’m not sure if I like what I’m doing so I’m going to finish the pattern section and decide whether to carry on or frog and make something else. Honestly, in most of my life I can be decisive and stick with a decision. My crafting life is full of ‘try this’ ‘do that’ indecision.
