I’ll play along. How many carbs are you shooting for a day? I’m thinking between 100-150g. I’m not going hard core (30-50). I love carbs, so this is hard for me, I’m really trying to limit sugar to under 25 g a day—except for an OCCASIONAL treat (because life is short).

I’ll join. I need accountability oufside of my husband who will not kick me in the ass when I need it. 😄
I am shooting for 20 net carbs or under per day. And my calories are set to 1363/day. I have been doing really well with this since Jan 1. Only 1 day in there where I went over on carbs and calories.
I have blown my day because I am stress eating. (Peanut m&ms and Twizzlers). The boys both have the flu and double ear infections. I’m trying to clean everything because the rest of us CANNOT get sick this week. Hubs is turning 40 on Thursday and I’ve planned a gathering of friends for him. Can’t back out! 😬
I’ll be back on the keto train tomorrow.

I started last Monday. I am trying to keep carbs under 25. So far ok. I am slowly learning. I have had a lot of cheese this week. Not complaining but I will be trying to decrease cheese next week.

Do you know that cheese is awesome on low carb diets? Keep the cheese. It has calcium, good fat and low carbs.

Yes, but a ton of cheese and not much in the way of high carb fiber can lead to wicked constipation. I have a feeling her comment may be related to that and/or the calories involved in cheese.

This is something I've just started looking at. What do you all have for breakfast? I like my breakfast to be quick and easy and I don't want to cook in the morning so I think it's the meal I'll struggle with most.

I have dabbled with this in the past, but always seem to get off track because my family loves to feed me. lol I want to get on the wagon and do it more of a lifestyle change. I have been cleaning out the cupboards of bad stuff and getting ready to do a good grocery shop. Breakfast ideas: avocado half, pre-cooked sausage patty, bacon or ham slice, cheese, hard boiled egg, I was going to attempt the eggs in a muffin tin as they are freezer friendly. lifemadeketo.com/low-carb-breakfast-egg-muffins/link Any meat, like a left over chicken breast, tender, slice of roast, etc.

Agreed about cheese being constipating. I think just more vegetables and water are needed??? I am not sure. But elaine I agree 100%.

I like my breakfast to be quick and easy and I don't want to cook in the morning so I think it's the meal I'll struggle with most. I have also started intermittent fasting...so I am skipping breakfast. I tend to run late and skip breakfast a lot anyway, and when I do eat it, it’s usually carbs and sugar. So it’s not that big of a switch for me. I have lunch at 11, and dinner at 6. A few healthy snacks in between. I stop eating by 7. I’m not doing Keto... I really don’t think I could do 25 g of carbs a day! I’m trying to eat lots of healthy veggies, very little (if any) bread, pasta, white potatoes. I’m going meatless for at least 1 meal a day (probably several meatless days a week). Cheese and eggs in moderation. My carbs are coming mostly from beans, sweet potatoes and a little fruit. And I’m really watching my added and hidden sugars. But like I said, I’m going to allow myself occasional treats. I’m just going to be smart about it. My goal is to lower my A1C so I don’t cross over into the pre-diabetic range. And if I lose weight...bonus!

I am strict keto, 20 total carbs a day and my carb sources are dark green leafy veggies, cabbage, zucchini, cheeses and salad dressing. For dinner tonight I made homemade hamburg patties and I chopped mine up and put it in a salad. My biggest challenge at the moment is eating only when really hungry. I mean true hunger. Not because social norms dictate I should be eating because it's breakfast, lunch or supper. My family is supportive.

Just finished logging for today in carb manager. I really only count carbs and calories. I’m sitting at 1218 cal for the day and 14 g net carbs. If I’m hungry, I may have a two good yogurt later. That’s a little higher than I’ve usually been eating but I was pretty hungry between meals.

I’ve been doing this (i would say I’m more low carb than Keto because I don’t focus so much on fat and protein and absolutely will eat plenty of low carb veggies) for almost 3 months now and I’ve found I’m not hungry in the morning anymore. I have coffee with cream and that’s it until lunch. Over the holidays when I was eating high carb lol I would wake up starving.

I do love cheese and have no problem eating it. My comment was really about finding a variety of things that are low carb and not relying on cheese as my only go to. I am also use to eating crackers with my cheese and I miss that. I may have to bake the cheese and get the cracker crunch. I have not tried that. I have tried the dried cheese in the bags at Costco but they all seem too salty for me.

I don’t do keto, but I did do Atkins religiously 18 years ago and many of the dietary restrictions are the same. I ate a lot of eggs - love them - in addition to cheese. I also liked roll-ups where you take a slice or two of deli meat and smear one side with cream cheese and then sprinkled some grated carrots or julienned cucumbers on top of it - you could also smear avocado too - and then roll it up and eat as a wrapless wrap (wraps weren’t much of a thing 18 years ago, so it was somewhat novel). Have you tried chaffles yet? You should give it a try and see if you like them. It helps to have a waffle maker, but you can make them like pancakes if you only have a skillet. I’ve tried them and really like them a lot! www.wholesomeyum.com/keto-chaffles-recipe/

DH has done The Dukan Diet a few times. This was well before the Keto craze, and it's similar, but healthier. All you need is the book!!! DH has dropped 18 lbs this time in only 2 weeks and his stats are stable!! For the constipation, he has 2 tsp of pure oat bran each morning. Those are his only carbs each day for now. He can add the oat bran to eggs or make a gallette (sp?? It's a pancake) out of it. It completely helps solve the constipation issue. I highly recommend the Dukan Diet vs the Keto diet. It's not fat-laden and it's better for the long haul. It has a plan for reaching your goal and adding a little bit of healthy carbs back in on certain days. Makes sense!! Basically he has no carbs daily except for the tiny bit of oat bran.

What is carb manager? it’s a carb tracking app. It’s similar to MyFitnessPal...you can set it up with your macros and enter what you eat. They have a rating system for how keto friendly any particular food would be.

Also, I would just like to point out that my blood work and my BP had perfect numbers when I got the results in about 6 months after starting keto last year. The BP was a big deal for me, because I’ve had highish blood pressure since my mid 20s (not high enough to warrant meds, but enough where the drs got twitchy). I am curious about how to add carbs back in once I hit my goal and go into maintenance. I haven’t read anything yet about what to do when one gets to this point. I have a long way to go though, so I have lots of time to read up on it.

I looked at my own words and felt that I did not explain my thoughts the way I meant too. Anyways, I will look into the chaffles. I have used the cheese folio wraps from Costco and they are good. I do eat eggs everyday. I am just trying to tweak things so I get the right balance for me and then I will have a list of the main things I will eat with some variation. Wine yesterday was not my friend today, lol. Back to being on track.

So lunch today was left over shredded pork, I topped my meat off with several dashes of Hobanaro hot sauce, sour cream and 1/4 cup shredded mexican cheese. Then tonight I made a homemade broccoli soup. Pretty easy.. boiled broccoli and onions in chicken broth, put it in my blender with a small pour of whipping cream and a few finger grabs of cheese. It was pretty runny for a broccoli cheese soup as I didn't use any thickenin agents but it drank well lol

I’ve tried them and really like them a lot! www.wholesomeyum.com/keto-chaffles-recipe/These are a game changer- it's like having bread again. I was making chaffles with cream cheese and eggs in my regular waffle maker and they were good but flimsy. Using the little Dash makes them so much better because they're smaller and thicker. It never occurred to me to use regular cheeses until I found the Facebook group. Now I have a bun for my burger and rye "bread". I do "dirty" keto and eat a ton of eggs and cheese. I do struggle to get enough fats in.

I am not doing Keto or counting carbs, but we have stopped eating any processed carbs at home, or foods like white potatoes, rice, etc. They don’t even come in the house, and that really helps. Oh, except DH’s creamer. But that way, if we want it we have to get off our butts and go get it, and we rarely want it that much. We treat ourselves to a couple of meals out a week and have things like potatoes there. We don’t go crazy, and the splurge has to feel worth it. I’m not eating crap tasting bread during my cheat meals! But mashed potatoes during dinner and sharing a slice of butter rum cake for dessert? Sold, totally worth it. One of my cheats is almost always an excellent warm sandwich. Mmmmm.
I did this before, as well as really restricting carbs with little to no fruit or high carb veggies. My blood sugar went from over 10 or 12 to 5.0 and I lost a lot of weight. My crazy could-eat-a-horse-level-hungry cravings got under control, and I found I just didn’t want to eat as much in general. And I didn’t feel as if I was missing out or restricted or anything. It really felt like a lifestyle change rather than a diet. But when I started adding back good carbs for nutrition purposes like berries for breakfast, butternut squash or sweet potatoes a few times a week everything went out of wack again and then just snowballed.
We’ve started up again, but without limiting quite as many healthy carbs at the offset this time and it seems to be going well. We have abut 1/4 cup max mixed berries with breakfast. He makes a sandwich at work for lunch, I do various salads at home. For dinner we have starchy veggies 3-5 times a week, but in smaller portions to go along with a large serving of non-starchy veggies. Fruit on our spinach and chicken salads a couple of times a week.
Doing this I have gotten a few starving-hungry cravings, but not as many as usual. I’m not losing weight as quickly, but I’m still losing. I’m hungrier than the last go-round, but not as hungry as I usually am. So we are going to keep at this pace until we stall for too long and will see what we need to do to jumpstart it back. Maybe IF a day or two a week, we will see. But for me, super low carb like on Keto wasn’t sustainable.
