Joining from here through the end of the year. I shouldn’t even need adhesive. The exception is the monthly virtual crop through Victoria Marie - it’s $8 and 2 1/2 with tons of motivation and prizes. I’ll keep that because I’ll use my stuff! Oh, for sure! That’s an investment in using stuff up. Totally worth it.

I'm jumping into the fridge for awhile.
I've been really good this year about only buying what I actively need for photos, and I have scrapped plenty.
But even the boring necessities of scrapping (page protectors, albums, & adhesives) start to add up when you run out all at once & have to buy them.
I think (don't hold me to it!😁) for the rest of the year, I will just make do (with the exception of photo prints & adhesive) and only use what I have on hand right now. That way I can dent my stash, write a list, and start buying again next year.

But even the boring necessities of scrapping (page protectors, albums, & adhesives) start to add up when you run out all at once & have to buy them. I've been finding that about a lot of things. We've been pretty frugal for many years but we hit a point where things started running out or wearing out - like all of our sheets and towels deciding to shred in the space of a couple of months. It sucks to have to replace/buy everything all at once, and the basics are not very fun to buy. Especially albums - oof! so expensive! Maybe there will be some good deals near the end of the year to get people shopping and we can all stock up on the boring basics then. Or maybe all the companies will be so broke that the Black Friday deals won't be such good deals. IDK. Wishing you luck: use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!

I chose not to buy chipboard embellishments today. They were white with gold foil, and a dollar for a pack of twenty, but in the end I didn't need it. I didn't want to add it to my stash.

I think I finally broke that habit - buying it because it's only $1. I found I never did use it. So WIN for you!

Thinking about being chilly for 2021. Who else is thinking about 2021 spending? Pursuing my chilly ways for 2021 for sure. I'm already working on my 2021 budget and the bulk of my spending money is going into saving for travel when the world is safe-ish again. I hope someone will start a 2021 Frozen/Chilly Peas discussion soon!

Thinking about being chilly for 2021. Who else is thinking about 2021 spending? I have regular product coming in my home and should try to be chilly beyond that. I did pretty good this year with just some splurges when my favorites had big sales. They were hefty splurges though. I would have done those anyway so it’s good the small spending in between was cut. And I’m so critical of every dollar I spend. Long windy way of saying I’m chilly if not frozen for the first 6 months besides my kit clubs.

Thinking about being chilly for 2021. Who else is thinking about 2021 spending? I will be chilly for a few months at least. I’ve been frozen for about a month now. I will only buy the scrappy necessities. The last few times I looked through my supplies or reorganized I felt a little overwhelmed and saw quite a few things that were untouched and forgotten. Really cute stuff, too! I haven’t had much desire to buy what’s out there right now so this is a good time to freeze. So, yeah, I’m in. Maybe in a new 2021 thread we can post about what we’re using from our stash.

I am subbed to Paper Person and the SC Stamp Sub (which I won't renew in the spring.) So other than the Paper Person sub, I am gonna try to really hold back. Gotta use my supplies up.

I definitely need to chill a bit! I've become obsessed with spellbinders after my Mom got me some card kits for Xmas, and I need to step.a.way. (I did sign up for the small die of the month club, but that should help me stay chilled, theoretically......?)

Me! continuing to question every purchase.
I haven't had the time or energy to use some of the stamps and dies I've bought this year. Some I'm very aware of (that puzzle die which I had to have) and others I'd completely forgotten I owned. Ugh! That's not my style at all. Lately I've been able to resist the urge to buy things pretty easily because it actually feels like a burden/obligation to have to make time to use them. Not good. It's partly pandemic, partly other responsibilities, but it's not good.
I have a couple of things on my wishlist right now - a die and an embossing mat to use with dies I already own. Both very useful, but I think I'm going to require myself to use up a certain portion of my stash before I buy them. Because yes, I could make tons of cards with that die, but I could also make tons of other cards with the stuff I already own!

(I did sign up for the small die of the month club, but that should help me stay chilled, theoretically......?) Hahahaha, I also got a little obsessed with those kits. (I bought a few earlier in the year, and then they had two Christmas ones that I got for some stupidly low price this month.) And I signed up for the clear stamp of the month club. I've been doing way too much spending on non-essentials. I haven't made a card in at least six months.... I definitely need a chill. (I will still have the Spellbinders kit, and I do my friend's CTMH hostess group for four months at a time, but I've got to scale back.) I do want to try to make my Christmas cards for next year. I figure 12 a month for 10 months is quite reasonable, especially if I make all 12 identical.

I think we could use a thread on the cardmaking board to encourage this idea. A dozen a month is totally doable! Maybe it could be an ongoing challenge item too, for those who find that motivating.

Thinking about being chilly for 2021. Who else is thinking about 2021 spending? yes - planning to be frozen for 2021 except the boring stuff (adhesives, albums, page protectors, photo prints) -we're (hopefully) closing on a house before the end of the year and my scrapbook budget needs to be redirected into house needs for a while - we're adding a guest room so need a bed/mattress, DD14 needs a new dresser, we're going from 2 to 4 bathrooms (3 1/2) so we'll need more towels, stuff like that plus I need to rebuild my savings

I plan to be frozen for as much as possible next year. I didn’t do too too bad last year but considering I haven’t really made a page in months, it’s bad. Im challenging myself to make 40 pages before I can think about buying something. I do want to try to make my Christmas cards for next year. I figure 12 a month for 10 months is quite reasonable, especially if I make all 12 identical. I think we could use a thread on the cardmaking board to encourage this idea. A dozen a month is totally doable! Maybe it could be an ongoing challenge item too, for those who find that motivating. I love the idea of a thread for this! I wanted so badly to make cards this year but I didn’t have either the time, energy or head for it.

It's funny you say that, because I almost added "would anyone be interested in doing that along with me?" and then I thought people wouldn't like the idea. I would be happy to do a monthly thread for that.

I'm not sure yet.
I spent very little on "fun" things this year. Mostly essentials. Prints, adhesive, page protectors.
I've been trying to use what I have.
I think i might wait until it is safer to shop in person for fun, and then make a trip to Michael's.

I definitely need to go on a freeze . I have spent way too much this year. I don’t even have enough space to put it all away in my scrap room. Having said that I have also scraped more in the last 3 months then I have in the last 5 years. I feel like I am on a roll. I found a new online FB group and I feel like I have found my people. I love the challenges and fel very motivated

Every year I say I need to be frozen (or at least refrigerated), and every year I have a spectacular fall from grace. So what I really need is a way that works for me to slow down on the spending and increases the using up of stuff.

So what I really need is a way that works for me to slow down on the spending and increases the using up of stuff. Good on you for recognising that the problem is finding a long-term system that works to keep your extra spending in check. I really enjoy the monthly sit-down with my budget and analysis of my spending. At least of my spending on non-essentials and feel-good stuff. If you haven't tried this simple method yet, I highly recommend giving it a go for the first trimester of 2021 and seeing how it goes. I set up an ideal (but realistic) budget at the start of the year and then divide it in a way that makes sense to me. You can go super simple and divide it by 12 or you can make it a little more complicated and give yourself a few months with extra allowance and the rest of the months with reduced allowance. I find the latter method to work great with industries that release stuff each season like scrapbooking, literary releases, makeup, clothing, home goods, etc. All you need to do is tally your non-essentials at the end of each month and check whether it was an extra or reduced month. Tick the appropriate month off your yearly count and that lets you know instantly, every 30 days, whether you're on a slippery slope with too many extra spending months in a row or whether you're balancing the extra and reduced months well. I love this free flow approach. Thought I'd share in case it could spark some budgeting and monthly check-in love for others in here. For anyone struggling: January is just around the corner. Fresh chapter. Perfect time to sit down and make/print some very simple expense tracking sheets. Be realistic with your financial goals and spending allowance if you can afford it: it's what works in the long run... You got this!

I need to stop buying for a while. I'm out of space. I have done a lot this year with heritage stuff - my grandfather's military stuff, for example.
I am getting 2 kits during the pandemic, so I can't justify shopping.

Vexedangel, I love this idea ! I am going to try 12 per month scrapbooking or card making . I find in the nice weather ( June- October) I don’t scrap as much but I am sure I could make the time to do cards.

I think a big part of my challenge is mental, because while I know reducing spending (or more importantly getting my stash down to a size where it fits back into my storage with some breathing room) makes logical sense, part of me just doesn't want to, so it's easy to justify the reasons for continuing to spend and increase my stash, especially this year when I've spent less on lots of other things. That mental shift is starting to happen, I just need to get there a little faster, and last longer than the first 6 months of the year.
