Is the newest outbreak getting much attention in the USA? There are currently 14 people being tested for it in the UK I believe. 26 people have died in China - at least that's what they're admitting to. The chances are high that it has already spread way beyond China even though Wuhan, the epicentre is on lockdown along with about 10 other Chinese cities.
Thankfully it doesn't seem as though it's a serious virus for most people except, of course, the young/old and immunocompromised.

Only 1 person so far. This is what they are saying the US is doing to help prevent spread. Passengers from Wuhan to the United States -- either on direct or indirect flights -- will soon only be allowed to land at one of the five US airports. They will be screened for symptoms. But these airport screenings might not catch everyone infected. That's because the incubation period can last a week -- meaning it can take a week after getting infected before showing any symptoms.
So sad and scary.

And mutating quite fast apparently which adds to the pressure but the WHO are not sounding overly alarmed at this point so I take that as a good sign.

It's all over the news in Canada, as well.
I'm personally concerned because I am immunocompromised.

It concerns me because I work with the incoming Chinese students and I am immuno-compromised. I had several obviously ill students in my office last week. :: sigh ::

They've closed Shanghai Disneyland, which doesn't happen very often. It's troubling.

From cbc.ca
All performances of Cirque du Soleil's first and only permanent show in China have been cancelled until further notice, citing the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in the country.
"As a responsible actor, it's the thing to do," said Daniel Lamarre, the chief executive officer of Cirque du Soleil.
"It's a preventative measure from the Chinese authorities and it's important to collaborate with them."
* * * ** * ** *
Does anyone remember a TV show from about a couple of years ago where the plot was about the City of Atlanta and they try to build a wall around the area in the city where there is an outbreak of something nasty? When I was watching the news and the barriers that the Chinese people were putting up, resembled that show.

There was a report last night about a suspected case of a man who arrived at LAX from Mexico City on Wed. That concerns me because DH was in Mexico City earlier this week, and will be returning next week.

This morning, there were reports of possible cases at 2 Universities - Texas A&M and Tennessee Tech My son is at A&M and what’s he’s hearing is that the potential people with exposure from the student there is going to be extremely high because they were at registration the day before they went to the dr. True or not, I don’t know. I’m just hoping the student turns out to be a false positive.

But I know how the registration process goes on most campuses; it will be a very high number of exposed people. Even our much smaller student population could expose a few hundred people in an hour.

gosh, this is getting kind of scary. It sounds like they are on top of things though, to try to contain the spread.
I'm following the story too.

I read there were 13 in China and that seems to be a growing number but haven’t seen any reports of US cities on lockdown.

The Chinese authorities are currently building a 1000 bed hospital which should be ready for Feb 3rd! It’s only at the diggers and excavators stage but with fabricated construction should be quick and relatively cheap. I can’t imagine anything like a hospital being built that fast in the UK 😳 I wonder if the planning etc was already done or if this is entirely new!

(let's hope it's not done with substandard materials; just doing it at that speed might cause enough issues on its own.)

I am hoping that it turns out to not be as well. Super scary to think how fast that could go through a college campus.
