I plan on making a few masks this weekend with left over scrap fabric. DH and I will wear them when one of us goes out to get groceries next week. I'm not convinced the fabric masks offer much protection. The biggest benefit IMO will be a barrier for not touching nose and mouth. I watched a doctor, don’t member which one it was this morning on the news, who said that the masks that people are wearing made out of fabric do not protect that person from Covid. It only protects the people around you if you have it. I think that’s part of the issue is that we are getting mixed messages about a lot of things. My niece who is a nurse in a PICU will use the cloth ones that a friend made to put over her N 95 mask.

When this whole thing started, and I went to the store and saw all the meat and frozen items sold out, I cried.
I have been holding it together until yesterday when the 2 masks I ordered for my 2 toddlers came in the mail. Opening the envelope and seeing these tiny little masks broke my heart, and I cried again.
Now I need to try and find 4 masks for us adults. We really are staying home but my 3 yr old has Epilepsy and other medical problems and I’m not sure if we will have to go to the hospital or not.
This is just awful.
Oh and the person on Etsy who I bought the toddler masks from were 9.00 ea last week, today she has them listed for 32.00, sigh

My niece who is a nurse in a PICU will use the cloth ones that a friend made to put over her N 95 mask. The issue is that many people don’t know they have it until they start showing symptoms which could take days, and all the while they are going about their business shedding the virus. If everyone just assumes they are contagious and wears some type of mask when they go out in public places, it would cut down a lot on how much this thing could spread. From what I understand, the fabric masks aren’t so much to protect you from getting the virus from others, it’s to protect others from getting the virus from you since they trap the germs you could be breathing out while you’re contagious and don’t know it.

Not all brands of the shop towels tested well though. Of course ones we have at the house here for DH’s business are the kind that didn’t work very well. Looks like the good ones were available from Harbor Freight.

Colorado's governor just asked all Coloradoans to wear non surgical cloth masks if they leave the house. www.coloradomaskproject.com/I'm still not going to wear one, at least for now. We have a couple of bandannas we could use if needed. We have had a couple of peas very generously make masks for my DH and his co-workers and for me, that is where the need is. DH is putting his N95 in a Tupperware container between usage to keep it somewhat sterile. The cloth masks over the top at the very least gives them some comfort and could also extend the life and efficacy of the mask.

I don’t know how true this is, but I saw online that the material Amazon uses for gift bags is good for mask making. I saw the info on JD Morgan’s (Neegan and Poppa Winchester) wife’s Instagram page. She is making masks for doctors and was cutting those up. Might be something to look into.

My current work attire. We are all having to wear them now. I need to see if I can find someone to make me some masks this weekend because this one makes my face itch.

He’s always commenting on her posts how much he’s proud of her and how amazing she is. She’s one of my favorite actresses. She was Peyton on One Tree Hill and then when she got together with JDM, who is my all time favorite actor....❤️❤️❤️ I need to look up some of her info on masks. I just found out I have to work from the office two days a week because I think they aren’t seeing the results they expect from our team while we are working remotely...which is true because one of my team members closed one ticket last month and so far, only one ticket this month (in comparison, I closed 50 something last month while having two weeks off for bereavement).

Sorry.. I feel like an idiot.. I see what you said lol But I don't have insta and want to be sure I don't just assume this gigantic bag is safe. Where did you see this? I literally have the worlds largest amazon santa bag due to an inexplicable gift packaging of a fan I ordered last year. It is pearlescent. There are no masks here to be found.
I don’t have a bandanna.
Any other suggestions?

I wore one of my sewn masks to the grocery store and the looks I got...not sure if it was hostility or a combination of fear and curiosity. A few furrowed brows. I don't mind, but I felt a little conspicuous.
I think we have a number of peas in the Boise area where I am - I have 3 batches of 4 masks each if you need them. They're just two layers of quilting cotton with twill ties. LMK if you want them, and we'll figure out a socially distant way to transfer them. They are free. They have been my distraction sewing. (Please wash in hot water before using - we've been home for nearly 4 weeks and have no symptoms, but we do go to the grocery store.)
I would mail to others, but that would require me to go to the postal store. I can do that next week if I sew a whole bunch more - I have about 25 more waiting to be seamed and pressed.

Now that they recommend it I will.
Just texted my dad and asked him to send me some blue shop towels.
On my weekly trip to grocery store I will make a makeshift one. It's the only time I am out.

I cut my hepa filter vacuum bag to use as a filter in a mask.... do not laugh I used a cloth dog diaper(I know, it was never ever used-too small for my dog) It fit around my face, I used rubber bands to hold it in place and then put the filter from the vacuum bag. This is until I can get a real mask!!! Hey, I was desperate! dog belly band

That’s my concern as well. Especially with them being right up against your face. But they're not right up against your face... at least not with the design that I saw. You put a piece of the filter in between the layers of cloth. I need to find the article that I read that rated all the various materials people could be using... the HEPA filters were high up on the list, and also "blended" tee-shirts, i.e., ones that are not 100% cotton. So a double layer of tee-shirt with a piece of the vacuum filter inside seems like it should be pretty good. Better than nothing. I meant breathing them in against your face. If there are toxic chemicals they won’t disperse in the air before they get to you.

It just seems futile - mask, no mask, gloves, no gloves. I severely limit my out time, been to the grocery store twice since March 16. Went yesterday and about a quarter of the people had some sort of face covering. Most of them were constantly touching and messing with their masks, coverings.
Then I saw many entire family groups, mom, dad and several offspring shopping like it was any other day. Kids running around the store. Saw one family who had masks and the kids were taking them on and off, throwing them around. A saw another couple pull off their masks every time they talked to each other.
Then when I was in the checkout line, the bag girl walks within two feet of me and starts to unload my cart! Kindly asked her to back off.

This will be me today too, since a couple of my brothers have asked me to make them some. I hope I have some fabric in my stash that doesn’t have butterflies or bunnies or other girly prints, LOL.
