Helmets are the rule at our house! If you're old enough to be on a bike, trike, scooter etc you must wear one.
This! Even if it's just a quickie in the driveway, you put your helmet on around here.

I am so sorry that happened but thankful that he will be ok. And I will admit, I am guilty of not wearing a helmet when I ride. As a matter of fact, I don't even own one. But this post is such a great reminder to me that I have got to get one. Riding without one is so dangerous; it's stupid really. I promise I won't ride again until I get one. So, THANK YOU for the message! Miss Ang,
That actually made me tear up. Thank you for that promise!

I am so glad that your husband had a helmet on and is recovering well. This is such a passion of mine! I ride about 100-200 miles a week and NEVER without a helmet. In fact, it is such a passion for me that for the last two years I have organized a "Ride Your Bike to School" Day at my school. I worked with the local Bike Coalition to give away free helmets and teach some basic bike safety. It has been a wild success. Here is a link to the album from this year's event on Facebook.

You're welcome for the comment, but I do mean it. I added "bicycle helmet" to the shopping list on my phone.

So sorry this happened and so glad he's OK.
Our neighbor's mother was riding her bike (not an avid biker and a woman in her 70's - how fast could she have been going?) and fell off. Not wearing a helmet. It was well over a year of her being disabled. She had damaged her brain to the point where it was as if she had a stroke. She's a lot better now, but I don't think a full recovery is possible.
I see her grandson (17) riding his skateboard without a helmet ALL the time. I just don't get it.

wow, how terrifying! Helmets are like seatbelts, you don't need them until you do. Then you really do! So glad your dh was wearing his!
I seriously want to call the cops when I see a family where the parents are allowing their kids to go without them!!

WOW I'm sorry that happened. I hope he heals quickly.
Sounds like you have a lot going on.
Remember not to sweat the little things... No one will think badly if somethings have got away from you.
Hugs

I am so glad he is going to be ok. I don't get it when people won't wear them and worse, when they wear them but don't buckle them.

I am so glad that your DH will be ok. How scary for all of you.
As for getting the house ready for company, it is family coming. They will understand if everything is not perfect. Hang in there.

ER / trauma nurse here.....HELMETS can save lives. I've seen so many bike and motorcycle riders that have been saved because of that little piece of plastic and foam.
I'm glad your dh is going to be ok. He will have a long road ahead of him in the recovery department with the fractures but it could have been so much worse!!
best of luck! meredith

Hope the healing is fast and quick. Brain injuries from bike accidents are so common. They destroy lives. A little boy on another site was biking at his dad's house. Wasn't wearing helmet and wiped out. Prognosis is good but has affected his brain. Helmets are needed.

Best wishes to your husband for a quick and easy recovery. One of my major pet peeves is seeing a family out riding bikes and the kids are wearing their helmets but the parents are not wearing helmets. EVERYONE, no matter the age, should wear a helmet!

Prayers and hugs for you, your dh and family. I hope everything goes as well as it can tomorrow with your family visiting.
When my youngest was little he was putzing along on his scooter (not fast),hit a little rock and fell flat on his forehead. I took him to the doctor and thankfully he didn't have a concussion. But I always remember that and it only takes 5 seconds to put on a helmet to keep your head safe from a traumatic injury cause by something a simple as a rock.

Hugs and prayers for your dh (and you'll need some too!) We almost never see kids riding with helmets around here, and if adults are wearing them they're serious cyclists that are just passing through. My husband refuses to wear one but luckily he doesn't ride much. My kids and I always wear ours. DH's family make fun of us but that's life.
