Yikes! I am glad your hubby is ok. Thanks for the reminder. I don't ride my bike too often but usually only wear the helmet if I am going on trails. Definately going to change that !

I am so glad that your husband had a helmet on and is recovering well. This is such a passion of mine! I ride about 100-200 miles a week and NEVER without a helmet. In fact, it is such a passion for me that for the last two years I have organized a "Ride Your Bike to School" Day at my school. I worked with the local Bike Coalition to give away free helmets and teach some basic bike safety. It has been a wild success. Here is a link to the album from this year's event on Facebook.
That is so awesome! I am just amazed by how many people we see out there riding without helmets. You can tell those that are just riding causal and lots of them are without helmets but then you see the ones who do it for sport that don't wear them either. I don't get it at all!
That is so awesome what you do!

Helmets are the rule at our house! If you're old enough to be on a bike, trike, scooter etc you must wear one. This ^^^ I so sorry this happened and glad he will be ok.

I'm glad your DH will be okay. We are planning on getting our little girl a bike and helmet soon. My DH is kind of "meh" on the helmet thing. I'm going to tell him about your DH's experience. He needs to know the importance of the helmet. I would gladly share a picture of the helmet with you to show your husband!

I am so sorry he was hurt. Thank goodness he was wearing his helmet, and thank you for the PSA. I have a huge head and have a hard time finding things that fit, but need to do this before I get on my bike again. Sending positive thoughts for a speedy recovery!

Prayers for your hubby and you as well! I hope his recovery is a speedy one. And yes, helmets are so very, very important! I used to show horses and people would bellyache and complain when helmets were required, but one nasty spill can change a life forever.
I'm so glad your DH was wearing his!

Hoping your husband has a swift and uncomplicated recovery - it's frightening how many people are prepared to put their lives at risk by not wearing a helmet. I saw a helmet someone had been wearing in a nasty fall on a road and it was sobering to see the impact it took and the damage done to it.

Wow! I bet that was scary. Glad he is going to be ok. My daughter always wears her helmet with out being told. A friend of mine was in a bike accident several years back and she always says that her helmet saved her life.

I hope your husband has a smooth recovery, how very scary! I live in a very bike oriented town and it shocks me the sheer number of people not wearing their helmets. Kids have to, by law, but I see a large number who don't. I am so glad your husband was wearing his.

Thank you for sharing the reminder. DH is an avid cyclist and always wears his helmet. However, we are shocked at all the people we see without them...and they are usually commuting on busy roads with no bike lanes, during rush hour. It baffles us constantly.

I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's accident! I will pray that his healing will be quick and uneventful. My 74 year old father is an avid bicyclist and usually rides his bike on his lunch hour (he still works full time) on the bike trails near his office. 2 weeks ago his bike tire slid on the damp wooden bridge that is part of the trail and he fell off his bike landing on concrete on his shoulder and head. Luckily he was wearing a bike helmet and took most of the injury to his shoulder and knee. He was 5 miles down the trail from his car so he tried to get up, but couldn't. In his words he embarrassingly called 911. The rescue workers came, put him on a stretcher and told him that the bike helmet saved his life. They tossed his bike in the back of the vehicle and gave him a ride back to his car. He (being a man refused to go to the hospital, but wanted to go back to the office. He did go after work though for X-rays and to get everything checked out. The rescue workers told him to replace the bicycle helmet before he rides again-that one was ruined. I must admit I ride my bike maybe once a year, and I never wear a helmet. I will not do this ever again! I will not get on my bicycle without a helmet ever again!! Debbie in MD.

I'm so sorry. I hope he gets better soon, like really soon. Men tend to get so frustrated and angry when they have to rely on others to do the smallest things for them. I'm glad your DD is there to help you out.

So glad he is ok! My husband is a diehard road biker and has crashed several times. Those helmets are truly life savers! We wear them when ever we ski or bike. No exceptions. My 14 year old tried to sneak off with his long board without his helmet. I now own his board.

As avid bikers, my DH and I are huge proponents of wearing helmets. We NEVER ride without one. We take out 10 month old DS in a bike trailer behind our bikes and even he wears a helmet.
My biggest pet peeve is seeing parents not wearing helmets, yet they make their kids wear one. Leading by example is the best lesson.

I make DD wear her helmet when she goes roller skating too. She's just not that steady on her feet. Another mom at a party made fun and it was unfortunate but she had to take her child to the ER when she fell and cracked her head.
I always think about a pea whose son had a bicycle accident and even with the helmet had a bad concussion. Beyond doubt that child lived because of his helmet.
