This is a spin off of the biking kid/stalking dad thread where it was mentioned several times that someone should always have a phone.
I am not attached to my phone at all. I never know where it is around the house. I run off and leave it all the time. I'll leave it in the house when I'm out working in the yard or swimming for hours on end. And I rarely have my phone when I walk. My best leggings don't have pockets, and I have a protective dog to scare away strangers. I have envisioned him tripping me and running off while I lay bleeding in the street, though. I guess I'd be dependent on some stranger with a cell phone.
I figure I managed to survive the first half of my life without a phone within reach 24/7, I can get along for a 40 minute walk around my neighborhood or trip to Target. My kids, on the other hand, can't imagine being away from their phones for more than 5 minutes.

My phone is virtually always with me. Yes, I lived without one for the first half of my life, but life is very different now and a huge chunk of it goes through my phone.

I generally try to have it within arms reach, especially if I’m working outside. I definitely bring it along on neighborhood walks. I suppose I got the habit from bringing a baby monitor when I mowed during naps, or a phone 24/7 when hoping for a phone call when ex was deployed, or phone calls from the school with sick kids, or being able to just toss it in the stroller pocket when I went on a walk. As far as on a walk now, I’d rather have the ability to call in case of an emergency (my own if able or as a bystander), or if the kids need to get ahold of me.

My phone is always with me, even sleeps beneath my pillow, I’d feel naked without it! 😂

I always have it in my purse when I'm out and about. I usually have it when we take walks. I do turn it off at night before I go to bed.

Always. And I grew up in the Dark Ages before anyone owned one. Actually, that would be the Dark Ages before anyone had even imagined one. haha

It is usually near by. If I am out and about it is in my purse or back pocket. At the office, on the charging pad next to me. At home, on the table next to me. At night, on the bedstand charging. We don't have a house phone and with our bedroom at the back of the house, I like the phone near me ICE.
I am also Moogle for the kids. Google Mom. So if there is a question, they call me.

I voted no because I cannot have a personal phone at work. So eight hours a day it's in my car. Otherwise it is with me 90% of the time or nearby.. the other 10% is me LOOKING for my phone. I also use it for my alarm in the morning. Yes I lived without it for the first half of my life, but times have changed and I feel I need it nearby. I would never go for a walk without it... I fell down pretty bad once and broke my arm.. My DD who was only 8 or 9 at the time freaked out. Thankfully I could use the phone to call husband, call the off hours emergency number to my health care place, etc. Could I have lived without it, yes, but why? I pay a fortune for it, so I use it.

nope - it's usually on my desk in the craft room - I never take it outside in the yard unless I'm planning to use it as a camera. I usually but not always take it with me when I leave the house.

Usually close by. Of course I use it for much more than a phone - process time sheets, jot notes, calculator, flashlight...it’s a very useful tool for work and personal tasks.

No, I’m bad about it. I leave it home or leave it downstairs frequently.

I almost always have mine within arm’s reach. I went to the supermarket without it a few days ago and felt very strange!

My phone never goes in the bathroom and isn't immediately at my side in the house unless I'm expecting a call. Half my daily steps may come from running up and down the darn stairs to answer the darn thing. I never used to take it outside when working in the yard until one day I accidentally locked DS and I out. Thankfully he had his phone and the friend that has our spare house key was near enough to swing by.

I checked no because I don’t always have it on my person when I’m inside my house or yard but I do always have it with me if I leave the house for a walk, to go shopping, etc. I do that mostly because my shopping lists and other apps that I use are on there but also so my kid can get in touch with me if she needs something or if there’s an emergency.
ETA: We also don’t have any phones in the bedrooms at night, and we put them on do not disturb.

I am really bad about remembering to bring it. At the gym, I leave it locked in the car. You have a better chance leaving a note on my windshield wipers than me seeing your text or email.

Yes, both in the home and while not at home.
I live alone, have a 2 story condo and spend a good amount of time outside on the terrace this time of year. Also, I have no home phone. It is used as a hub for music and speakers as well, and I almost always have music playing....otherwise I hear everything going on elsewhere in the building.
On the rare occasion I forget my phone at home, while freeing for the day, it also feels odd. If for no other reasons that I rely on it for music and navigation in my car.

My phone is always with me, even sleeps beneath my pillow, I’d feel naked without it! 😂 Ha! I should have just said *me too* instead of typing out my own reply. Except mine is on my nightstand, a whole 18” away 😉

It is always with me and practically always in my hand. I use an app for tracking things like feedings and diapers with my son so there’s usually one or both of those things happening and I like to have it recorded so I don’t have to think about when the next feed is and what side to put him on. And scrolling here, Facebook, and Instagram is what passes the time while I feed him.

We no longer have a land line in our home - so yes it is always with me in case my kids are trying to reach me - even at night.
Just wondering - in the poll - what does the OPRAH option mean? I have seen it on a few other polls on here

I’m always surprised when people don’t take their phone on a walk. For me that’s one of the most crucial times to have a phone for emergencies. On a lighter note, there might also be a cute bunny encounter that has to be documented.

I have a terrible memory. If I don't keep it with me, it's a whole lot of trying to remember where I left it. No fun.

I voted no because I cannot have a personal phone at work. Wow! It's like they don't trust you I'm a teacher and need to use my phone just to get into my attendance page ... I could use a landline but I never would ... I don't play on my phone during work hours but it is always nearby At home I always have it ... it's just second nature now ... I also grew up in The Dark Ages

I usually have it with me 95% of the time. I forget it sometimes. DH and I go for walks regularly. One of us always has a phone with us. DH gets points at work for capturing small exercise sessions during the day (short walk, quick bike ride, etc) so he will use his phone to track our walk to send in. I don't always take my phone on those walks.

I voted NO. I am not a slave to my phone but always take it with me on walks to the beach or around the neighborhood. Not to use it, but in case of emergency. Doesn't matter where I go, I have my phone in one pocket and my i.d. in another pocket. My phone has a label with my husband's phone number on it and "if found, please call this number."
We live in wildfire country so I usually have my phone nearby in case of alerts. I have horrible allergies half of the year and we keep our windows closed. I could easily be oblivious to a fire next door or heavy smoke in the area. I do check our local online news site a few times a day during the worst of fire season, which is pretty much year round now.
Very grateful for this technology, although we have really lousy reception in our home.

I answered no because that is my norm and what I will return to someday. Currently, I try to never be away from a phone - my cell if I'm outside or away. If I'm in the house, there are extensions on all floors and one of us always answers. The only reason I'm tied to a phone is because I'm my Mother's healthcare POA and I must be available if something happens and they have to transport her to the hospital.
After growing up in a family business and years of working where not answering the phone was practically a firable offense and years of my own and DH's business, I'm really tired of being tied to a phone. When the hopefully far off day comes that I am not responsible for Mother, I may never answer a phone again.

if i leave my house, yes. always. i have turned around and gone back to get my phone if i forget. i don't ever want to ask strangers to use their phone and i don't want to hunt around for a public phone (if those even still exist).
if i'm at home, it's on it's charging base but i'm either in front of my desktop or on my ipad. so yeah, i'm never without a device near me.

Yes, I always have my phone on or near me. My life before cell phones doesn’t exist anymore. It’s essential that certain people be able to reach me. I upgraded my Apple Watch to include the cell data plan so I can wear it when I’m out in the yard, walking or if I forget my phone. It’s a necessary tool that I happily pay for because it makes my life so much easier.
ETA - we haven’t had a landline in years.

Plus I don’t wear a watch so my phone is my time keeper, it’s also my wallet, my appointments diary and my Covid contact tracer. I’m also constantly googling things while shopping 😂

I do, especially when I leave the house (at home, not so much). Do I use it all the time I do? No, but you never know when you or some else might need it. I don’t want to be caught without it should I need it.
