I wouldn't mind grilling but there is one problem. I am not tall, so while lifting up the lid I am always afraid I am going to light up my boobs. It is kind of irrational but that is my fear with grilling! that too!! Oh I feel better!

I'm the griller in our family!! But, rather than propane, our grill runs on the natural gas from the house. So it isn't that much different than using our gas stove. The ignition doesn't work though and I really don't like trying to light it with a match on a windy day.

I love to BBQ. Lighting it is easy with a very long bbq lighter. I was helping at a charity bbq last weekend and I did all the grilling. The guys were putting to hotdogs in the buns and serving. I even had a couple of guys watching me grill, and were very impressed that every hotdog was cooked perfectly and not burned.
I really miss my gas stove. I could adjust the heat so perfectly, better than on an electric stove.

No way am I doing the grilling around here since the potential for WHOOSH or KABOOM exists. Heck, I won't even open the can of biscuits since it scares the snot out of me.

Another vote for getting a long lighter if your ignition doesn't work. And make sure the grill lid is open when you light it!
I wasn't ever afraid of grilling but it always DH's "job" so I just never learned how to do it. Then, several years ago, I wanted to make a special birthday dinner for him and decided to make a beer can chicken on the charcoal grill. My brother walked me through it over the phone and it was an instant hit. I've been the griller ever since.
I use both the charcoal and gas Weber grills and believe that grilling will make just about anything taste delicious. The kids love when I use the charcoal grill because they roast marshmallows for s'mores in the embers.

Don't like it either. In fact, I could have written your post word for word. No grilling here when I am alone here!

I have never cooked on a grill.
We have a gas one & I am afraid it will blow up if I do something wrong.
I have marinated chicken in the refrigerator & am debating whether I wait until my husband gets home late tonight or heat up the house with the stove.

That can of biscuits is just like a jack-in-the-box. Those things are evil. You know the thing is going to pop, you just don't know when.

I do the vast majority of the grilling in our house. If I waited for dh to get off work we would be eating at eight and in the summer my house is just too hot to cook in.
It really is easy and not dangerous. I like the results, so I'm happy to do it. DH doesn't do as well with it as I do anyway. (Probably the lack of practice because I'm always the one cooking on it. LOL!)

I thought I wa the only weirdo scared of the grill. I am not scared of fire and I have a gas cool top and that's fine (although I was a bit nervous the first time I used it) but I won't use the grill. I'm scared of the propane tank. It's all dh.

Terrified of gas grills. Charcoal I can do, but they are such a pain that I don't bother.

I am also deathly afraid of filling air into tires, blowing up ballooons, and anything that has KABOOM, potential. Yeah, that.

I don't like to touch the grill, but not because I'm afraid of it. DH gets overly invested in his "toys," and I'm not about to risk damaging any of them. So I refuse to grill, mow the lawn, or use the snow blower. I have the camera, and he has the videorecorder. I just prefer to stay out of his "stuff" and I like to keep him out of mine.
Grilling is his.
Yeah, well, there's some of that too.

I'm not exactly afraid of our grill, but of the mice who sometimes come in it!

When we first married DH often got home right before time to eat dinner, very sporatic hours being a real estate agent. That was when I took over grilling duties. We had a weber kettle then but now have a gas grill. I light it with no problem After I take the food off, I turn it on high for about 10 minutes to help clean the grates. One night the timer went off and I didn't hear it and forgot all about the grill. The next day I realized I had never turned if off because there was no propane left. But the grates were sure clean.

Add me to the list. It scares me to light it! Once it is lit I will cook on it.

I understand your fear. I've always loved grilling season and would make dinner every night of the week on it during the summer......but last year my grill caught fire while making some ribs. That was scary! As in flames shooting out the back, front and sides on fire! I still use the grill but am far more cautious now. Before I would frequently walk away from it to do prep work on other items in the house. Needless to say, I am now glued to the grill until the meal is done.

That's me too. I can do just about everything else to include dealing with minor plumbing problems, start/mow the lawn, check my car for fluids/etc, deal with finances/investments...but using the grill has had me stumped for years. To top it off, DH is living in another state right now, so no BBQ for us. :-(

I am petrified of lighting the grill and not overly fond of cooking on it. I will do it if I absolutely have to, but definitely under protest.

I am afraid of fire, so I won't do the grill, won't light a match or a candle! At least my husband isn't afraid of the grill! My friends always tease me (in a nice way) because I won't grill. My husband doesn't like to grill much (loves the way it cooks, but it's a lot of work getting it ready and cleaning it). And our weather isn't great except for a few months in the summer. Either cold or raining.

I do it, if I have to, but DH has to get it going for me. The Whoosh scares the daylights out of me! If I let DH handle all of it, then I eat charred food. He believes hotter=faster. So, in self defense, I grill, but only after it's going. I won't turn it off either. As me to the list of weirdos. looks like good company though!

Not me! DH got me a Big Green Egg last summer and I'm at my happiest grilling steaks at 650. Great gift - TYVM DH - but he's not allowed anywhere near it.

I agree with everything in the OP - I hate all forms of fire and it sucks because I live alone and have gas appliances. It took me a long time to not freak out every time I had to turn on the stove top. I can now do that, but I refuse to grill, start a fire of any kind, light matches, etc. Luckily my mom loves to grill, so when she comes over, she'll grill for me - I love the taste and I even have an electric grill on my patio, but I won't touch it.

After seeing that food truck that blew up in Philly because of a propane tank I don't even want that gas grill anymore. Same here! I agree! I haven't used my grill in ages. I think I'm going to give it away especially after the explosion on that food truck.

So dh is going to be late coming home tonight ... even though it is perfect grilling weather there is no way we will be having that for dinner because I have an unhealthy fear of the BBQ I actually don't feel comfortable around anything related to fire ... fireplaces, fire pits, etc.
I'm OK with candles but very cautious and if I had a gas stove I'd probably be able to cope because I wouldn't have a choice ...
Anyone else have the same issues or am I just weird?
Leanne YES! I have a beautiful BBQ, but I am afraid I am going to blow up the house! My son just shakes his head at me.
