Nope I love to grill. I usually am the one to grill, unless we have steak. I suck at grilling steak.

Get a Traeger! It uses wood pellets and plugs in ... Best. Thing. Ever.
You can do anything on it, today someone made cookies on it at work. :-)

I love love love to grill! I'm pretty good at it too!
I don't mind charcoal or gas either. I'd prefer to cook on some charcoal but my gas grill is pretty good and I don't get a big gas taste when I cook and it is easier and quicker for me to light and get ready to throw the food on.
If we need a Grilling 101 class, let me know

My dad taught me to grill as a teenager and I've been loving it ever since. Charcoal, propane, camp fire, whatever. The little pyro in me messes with them all. DH is an impatient griller and cooks at too high of a temp to get things done quickly. I do most of our grilling because of that.

Dh has never grilled in his life. I do all grilling and I love it; learned by watching my Dad.
I only do charcoal though, I'm not comfortable with propane/gas. I prefer the flavor of charcoal grilled anyway.

I do somewhat. I get nervous if I can't see the lit flames, like in the daytime and then I wonder if it's really lot even though I "think" I heard it catch and then I think I'm gonna blow the house up. But once I know it's lit, I'm good. So I'm in the "I'm only partially weird" camp.

I am a fire nut...could start a one match fire when I was 10...spent a season as a forest firefighter and firelook. in fact, in the lookout I had a propane refridge...which I had to connect up along with a propane stove. I have a charcoal grill which we use occasionally...but have no problem with propane anything. it is too cold to stand outside grilling..so we just do it sometimes and eat inside.

Propane makes me nervous. It's dumb and I need to overcome it, because seriously, I'm a grown ass adult and it isn't really more dangerous than using a gas stove. DH likes to "own" the grill though, so I haven't really tried.

I don't grill (or run the smoker) just because I'm no good at it and DH is excellent. I have a hard time just leaving food alone to cook when I can't see inside the cooker. I'm not at all afraid of fire, though - I *love* making s'mores and such. We have sealed gas fireplaces in our house just b/c DH didn't want to fool with chopping wood & hauling ashes out. We don't ever have candles burning in the house, though, because we have 3 cats and don't want to take chances with their curiosity.

Nope. I don't have any problem working with fire. Be it a wood/charcoal fire or a gas one.
I will admit that whenever I light a gas flame I cringe right when it catches. I grew up with a gas stove and whenever the power was out, we'd have to light it with a match. Hated it. Same when I light our gas fireplace. That initial "whooosh" of flame is always a major pucker moment. And when I used to make glass beads, I hated lighting my gas torch. I'd do it at arm's length.

Nope, you're weird Forgive me, but that really made me laugh! My husband works crazy hours and if I had to wait for him to get home to light, clean and cook on the grill, we would never have a grilled meal. I really enjoy the taste of grilled food and would miss it. My husband makes certain that we have a spare propane tank and I have been known to swap it out when the one attached to the grill goes out. I certainly understand your fear though! I mean, it is fire after all!!! I never quite knew how to cook on one at first, but by trial and error I became more comfortable. Pace yourself and perhaps you will get there one day too!

No way am I doing the grilling around here since the potential for WHOOSH or KABOOM exists. Heck, I won't even open the can of biscuits since it scares the snot out of me. Get out! LOL! I have to admit, I open those darn cans with one eye closed!!! I am glad that I don't make them very often!

I wouldn't mind grilling but there is one problem. I am not tall, so while lifting up the lid I am always afraid I am going to light up my boobs. It is kind of irrational but that is my fear with grilling! Ah ha ha! I almost spit my sip of tea out!!! That is too funny!!

It's not the fire aspect that scares me, I just flat out don't know how to use the grill. I save that for DH. I know that probably makes me sound stupid, but actually I think it's just more laziness on my part. My husband's grandma is exactly this way! She is one of those super traditional housewives that is an awesome cook and baker, but she has never learned how to use the grill. Even though her husband has been gone for 20 years now. Me? Not so much. I love grilling in the summertime.

I am the griller at our house ... unless you enjoy your food burnt to a crisp, which is how DH does it. I hate propane tanks so we had our grill plumbed with natural gas. Best thing ever, and much cheaper in the long run.
I'm pretty good with the grill, if I do say so myself. Living in Texas we grill year round.

A bbq, known as a braai, which is hugely popular here. We braai indoors in winter and outdoors in summer. The meat is cooked on a fire made with wood or coal. Needless to say it's normally the men who do this.
Popular foods to throw on is chicken on sticks (sosaties) and sausage which is the poor mans version of a braai. (AKA my version) We normally serve with potato salad, coleslaw and cowboy sandwiches or garlic bread.

You're not weird. I know a lot of women that are afraid of the grill. I don't really understand why, but it seems fairly common. I love grilling and I'm the first to jump up and get things going. I use both gas and charcoal. I don't really worry about blowing myself up.

I'm afraid to grill too....yet have no problem lighting up my firepit, so there IS no excuse. I think it is the propane tank though. AND, I do have a fear of fire, so NEVER light real candles...am very happy with the flameless candles! Then again, I only cook on a gas stove, so I AM weird.

We have a huge BBQ and I love it. I am the only one who seems to know how to use it. I use it for everything except roasting a leg of lamb. I want to learn how to do this.
We have a side burner too which I use to do everything else that can't be done in the summer heat in the kitchen.
I had to get over the fact it was a BBQ and it was using gas. It isn't hard to use and I have a certain method I use to BBQing food on it. I kind of guess how long something is going to take and i am usually right. But it is a trial and error thing too.

Well saying you are weird would be a bit harsh... If it is a fire thing I understand, though. I am the griller in the family and just got a new smoker for my birthday. I was overjoyed!! I grill year round. Even in the snow and ice time. I just view it as an extension of my kitchen. DH does not do grilling at all!! This! I can't imagine not using my grill. I do all of the cooking for my family - if dh has to be in charge of lunch for the kids, tuna salad it is. We would never have grilled food if I didn't do it. We have a Weber Genesis that I love. In fact, since it is around 13 years old, I just ordered some parts and replaced the ignition lighter myself.

I'm a little afraid of the grill. However, I am the one who opens the biscuits can, as it always freaks my SO out and he does most of the cooking.

I don't mind either, however I love the ease of a gas grill.
When I was married and lived on a farm, whenever I lit the charcoal grill, every barn and neighborhood cat would come running. Oh what a pain. It didn't matter if I had just fed them, they'd wind between my legs and beg the whole time. Once, a bugger tripped me up and the whole plate of perfectly grilled brats and burgers ended up on the driveway. There wasn't time to save the food - those cats grabbed every last piece like they had planned it.

Since my husband passed away I have taken over grilling duties. I have to admit, I'm a little intimidated by it. Even on the lowest settings it seems to be running to hot. I'm wondering if something is wrong with it or it just needs a good cleaning.

Nope, you're weird Okay, maybe not weird, but there is really nothing to be scared of, it is quite safe, so long as you do not let your skin come in direct contact with flames. But I understand your fear, it is mostly (from the sound of it) based upon not having the experiences and knowledge. That can be fixed. I'd do the grilling if DH isn't around... fire does not scare me, nor do open flames or gas. Now those flat top electric cook tops? Forget about it!

I don't have a fear of the grill. I have a fear of the lighter fluid that people put on the briquette before lighting them. We have a gas grill and it is hooked to the gas line through the house. It is just like cooking on a gas stove. My daughter (21) has been grilling food for about 5 years now. Husband taught her how. She was really interested in it so he taught her. we also have to smokers oldest is a briquette/wood smoker and the newest one is a wood chip smoker. It kinda works like a wood chip stove that heats the house but you grill on it and use food grade wood chips. I've used the oldest smoker but I haven't used the new one yet. I leave that one to the husband.
I usually do the inside stuff while husband and/or daughter do the outside stuff.

I am the grillmaster at our house and I perform my magic on a stainless steel behemoth my kids christened the SS Beef. LOL
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to a fellow Pea who posted a PSA several years ago after she was burned when the hose from the propane tank to her RV stove had a split in it. I had never thought to check the hose; I just checked the tank seal each time I changed it. DH and I checked our hose that night, before I started grilling for the year, and discovered a 3 inch rupture in the hose. I could have been severely burned without the timely PSA.
It took us 2 years to find someone who could replace the hose! I bought a replacement hose right away, but the Jenn-Air design is so bad, we couldn't find or reach the connection. I finally called our local Ace Hardware and they sent a young man who moonlighted as a handyman and he fixed it in less than 20 minutes! He had a tool that fit just right. LOL He also checked the extension to the side burner and the rotisserie while he was there. Best $20 I ever spent! Since then, I've pretty much taken all of the rest of the grill apart and cleaned it.
I have no problem lighting the grill, even when the igniter battery dies and I have to use a long handled lighter to start it. But I could no more strike a short match or light a regular lighter than I could fly to the moon. My mom says I got burned, not seriously, playing with a lighter as a child, and to this day I cannot force myself to light either. My kids used to joke that I would be the fan at the concert waving the Aim and Flame rather than the traditional lighter.
I also have to force myself to open a can of biscuits. Just can't stand the knowledge that it's going to POP!!

I agree! I haven't used my grill in ages. I think I'm going to give it away especially after the explosion on that food truck. Gave it away to friends yesterday. I've had it for a few years but hadn't used it more than 4 or 5 times. They sent me a photo of them using it last night.
