So dh is going to be late coming home tonight ... even though it is perfect grilling weather there is no way we will be having that for dinner because I have an unhealthy fear of the BBQ I actually don't feel comfortable around anything related to fire ... fireplaces, fire pits, etc.
I'm OK with candles but very cautious and if I had a gas stove I'd probably be able to cope because I wouldn't have a choice ...
Anyone else have the same issues or am I just weird?

You are not alone. I won't get anywhere near the grill. When camping I have to have a looooooooooooooong roasting stick. We do have a gas stove, and it freaks me out every time I use it. In my defense, my hair caught fire as a small child, and though I didn't get hurt, I think that stuck with me.

I don't even light candles on my kids' birthday cakes, so I am certainly going nowhere a grill! Fire scares me. I'm happy to prepare everything for DH, and will even bring it to the back patio for him, but you won't catch me within 5 feet of the grill!

It's not the fire aspect that scares me, I just flat out don't know how to use the grill. I save that for DH. I know that probably makes me sound stupid, but actually I think it's just more laziness on my part.

My hubby has a high end Weber grill that he loves. We live in Florida so we get a lot of use out of it. He always does the grilling but recently he showed me how to turn on the grill so it could at least be hot when he walks in the door. Apparently I wasn't paying attention because the first time I went to turn it on, a huge poof of fire almost melted my face off. Yea..won't be doing that anytime soon.

I don't like using a grill either. I don't know how to work them/get them started for the most part. I will cook the food if someone else starts it for me though. But yeah, I don't like them.

I wouldn't mind grilling but there is one problem. I am not tall, so while lifting up the lid I am always afraid I am going to light up my boobs. It is kind of irrational but that is my fear with grilling!

I won't start the gas grill but I have no problem with starting charcoal.
After seeing that food truck that blew up in Philly because of a propane tank I don't even want that gas grill anymore.

Add me to the list. I'm a little afraid of the propane thing so I let DH do all the grilling. Which means we don't use it as often as I'd like since he's not home a lot. In my defense, I was singed by a backfire in an old gas oven once. But the charcoal thing was more trouble and I never could get the coals to stay hot.

I do not like the grill. I have done it 1 time in my life. And I was terrified I was going to blow my eyebrows off. I am not a fan of fires in general though, as I did manage to set my hand on fire with a candle resulting in 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

Yes, unfortunately. I love the idea of grilling out, and the delicious food that results from grilling out. But I'm positive I'm going to set myself ablaze if I try and handle it myself.
This is a fear I would love to overcome.

I only get scared when the ignition doesn't work and I have to light it with one of those long lighters. I always just know I'm going to blow the darn thing up.

No, I won't grill. I also won't use the deep fryer. Too risky!

If I waited for my husband to start the grill I'd be eating dinner at 8:00 every night, plus he overcooks everything.
His timing is "2 beers". All food takes the time that it takes him to drink 2 beers.

I used to be until we had a power outage and the only way to feed myself was to light the grill! It is definitely scary at first but now I do it without a second thought.

Confession. I'm another who has never used a grill. My dad did all the grilling growing up and now I just let DH do it. He says it's really easy and will teach me, but I think I prefer to remain ignorant on this one. And he enjoys doing it, so why mess with a good thing!

All food takes the time that it takes him to drink 2 beers. This made me snort! We just transitioned from a traditional propane grill to a Green Mountain Smoker/Grill. It uses pellets and is electric. I LOVE that thing (and I was pretty opposed at first)...everything is so evenly cooked (no hot spots/stays at temperature) and the flavor is amazing! Because it stays at temp, my DH is finally a master (no more underdone/overdone!) Whoop, whoop!

Well saying you are weird would be a bit harsh... If it is a fire thing I understand, though. I am the griller in the family and just got a new smoker for my birthday. I was overjoyed!! I grill year round. Even in the snow and ice time. I just view it as an extension of my kitchen. DH does not do grilling at all!!

We had a Weber grill - it lasted 17 years! But at the end of it's useful life the started wouldn't work - so I'd wait for DH to get home from work to light the grill.

I use the charcoal grill sometimes but haven't even broken it out yet this year and we're in Southern CA. I'm a bit nervous around gas grills. Hannah Storm from ESPN was badly burned by her gas grill so hearing that makes me even more nervous. 14 yo DS wants want pretty badly. We used to have one but haven't replaced it yet. DH has no clue how to operate a grill.

Never used the grill either. Would rather have DH do it. So add me to the list. I have no trouble with lighting candles, though.

I never was growing up , but we had a charcoal grill. When it came time to replace our charcoal BBQ, DH said he would prefer a gas one, and that freaked me out (makes no sense, since we have a gas stove). I was the one that did all the research about gas grills and gas grill safety and that really helped me not be afraid of it. Now, I am the only one that uses the grill, it is my 45,000 BTU baby!

I always ask my brother to do it because it gives me a little break. I prepare all the sides and get the meat ready for the grill. The least he can do is cook it. Besides it makes him feel like a manly man if he grills. Who am I to take that pleasure away from him?

I will only use a charcoal grill, the propane ones scare me. But my DH loves grilling so much I haven't done it in years. I have an irrational fear of the lawnmower, too. I've only ever done it twice in my whole life. That is the lamest, girliest thing I've ever admitted to on the internet BTW.

I'm not afraid of the grill necessarily, but I don't like the initial WHOOSH it makes as the spark lights the propane. That WHOOSH always seems a little too close to a KABOOM!

I am also deathly afraid of filling air into tires, blowing up ballooons, and anything that has KABOOM, potential.
