As an observation, it's interesting how many peas know of someone who have interacted with Cosby through the years and what they said about him was similar. Everyone has a bad day and might come off an an ass but it appears this is the real persona.
Also, a part of an interview with an AP reporter has been played a lot in the last couple of days. Cosby trying to manipulate the reporter says this-
"I think if you want to consider yourself to be serious, that it will not appear anywhere," Cosby says. When the reporter gives a noncommittal answer, saying that he'll pass the message to his editors, Cosby adds, "If you will just tell your boss the reason why we didn't say that up front was because we thought that AP had the integrity to not ask."
How could he be so self important to think that he isn't going to be asked about this in any interview or public appearance it's all over the news.

It makes me sad. I got to bring him in backstage when he was here, and they told him that I was his backstage security, and he got a laugh and asked me if I had ever beaten anyone up before. I didn't feel any negative vibes from him. But I do believe the women who are coming forward- especially since they don't have anything to get from it.

Last night was the first time I ever said out loud that I had been raped. I was super naive and trusting back then so I can absolutely understand what those women went through. This was a very brave first post. I hope your disclosures - to your husband and here - help you work through the memories.

Just for clarification's sake, because it has been mentioned a few times on this thread, Bill Cosby has an EdD, not a PhD. I want as few things in common with him as possible. Snob! Amelia Bloomer, M.Ed.

My first thoughts were: Is he dying? A sick publicity stunt for something.
It just seems so strange that it is coming out after all of these years, but I guess I haven't paid much attention to anything about him.

I have a really hard time blaming Camille for any of this, because I have no idea what she thinks, has been through, etc. On another not, I think that "well what did you come to my hotel room for anyway" bit gets played out by Hollywood types regularly. The same thing happened to two of my friends in college. One with one of the guys from 21 Jump Street (he came out of the bathroom stark naked) and the other with a popular singer. The guys who do this are total a-holes.

My only thought is that he needs to start talking. The accuser list is piling up, and previously made deals between him and networks are coming to a halt, and yet he is silent.

The same thing happened to two of my friends in college. One with one of the guys from 21 Jump Street (he came out of the bathroom stark naked) and the other with a popular singer. The guys who do this are total a-holes. What other plausible reasons would there be for (who can be pretty much summed up as a male stranger) to invite a girl back to a room with a bed in it? If you want to get to know someone you do so in different venue. Does it mean that legally a woman is at fault? No, but it does mean she lacks in the common sense department as far as I am concerned. You might be right morally, legally etc to accept an invite to the bedroom of a man you really don't know but if you end up assaulted all that rightness goes out the window because the damage is done (not that she's at fault but that her life is ruined). We live in a world where predators exist and we need to be on our guards. Even though our children are not "at fault" should a crime occur against them we teach them about strangers, how to act if they are approached etc. We teach them to be on guard. I don't know why it's such a terrible thing to be on guard as women.

Why is all this coming out now?? I remember when he settled a lawsuit a few years ago along this line....why now?? Just curious. I believe it has something to do with this: (sorry, I have trouble linking with my iPad) Cosby has been dissed for years, primarily for being out of touch with prevailing black American culture, but little was ever said outside of certain circles about the sexual assaults. His disparaging attitude towards contemporary black youth culture was a slap in the face for many young African-Americans, but Cosby was seen by them as an increasingly curmudgeonly old man, not as a sexual criminal. But rising young African-American comedian Hannibal Buress was among those who wasn't buying the lovable old grump routine. He has been calling Cosby a rapist for years during his stand-up. It wasn't until someone videotaped that routine and popped it up on YouTube that the accusation went viral.

probably creep in a good guy suit I hadn't read this thread before today but it seems America is having a 'Jimmy Savile moment', as described by a columnist in one of our papers today, when a well loved 'national treasure' is accused of heinous crimes by too many people to ignore. There seem to be so many similarities unfortunately. I hope, when this peaks, there aren't as many victims as there were in the JS case in the UK. Independent

My thoughts are that I'm sad, I loved Bill Cosby. I find it very hard to believe with the evidence mounting that he is innocent of these charges.
I'm sad that this is so common in our world, that so many beloved celebrities turn out to be horrible people behind closed doors. What a miss-use of trust and celebrity, and a sad statement on society in which we glorify celebrities to the point where they no longer care to distinguish between right and wrong. Oh, I know there are a lot of creeps in this world, famous and not famous, but I think inflated celebrity egos + money is a dangerous thing.

But it would have been a why now anytime after the occurrence, except probably immediately after. Last month, last year, 5 years ago, 3 minutes ago... why now?

He was developing a new show for NBC where he plays a lovable family patriarch dispensing wisdom and relationship advise to his children and grandchildren and he had a new comedy special coming out on Netflix. Seeing Cosby being lauded as the epitome of patriarchal wisdom was too much for these women to take so they starting talking. Once one opened up, it was easier for others to tell their stories.

I grew up listening to his comedy records, watched Fat Albert, The Cosby Show and all of his movies/specials. As everyone else has pretty much said, I think that there is too much out there to NOT believe the accusations, but it still saddens me. I won't say I looked up to him, but I feel so disillusioned. Just really sad all the way around. Sigh.

Oh, gotcha. Yep, did take it wrong way. You are right in that sometimes things happen forever or over and over and, while few my notice, it is weird when all of a sudden it becomes news to everyone else and then BIG news. Meanwhile, the fore-mentioned few are like... ? as it is old news to them. Someone in the media flip the on switch? Safety in numbers? Who knows.

He had a new project, his handlers were trying to build excitement among the hip youngsters who were born decades after his last jello pudding pop commercial, and by the level-playing-field of the internet, the memes went in a direction his handlers didn't anticipate. Can open. Worms everywhere. And by worms, I mean Cosby. I truly hope that this flips, and he becomes an anti-role-model. That he will be held up to young men as the kind of "man" they will strive not to be.

It has just been reported that Bill Cosby resigned from the Temple University Board of Trustees.
Most likely forced out.

I absolutely believe these women. My Dh was asking why some of the women still continued to have a relationship with him after it happened and I told him what happened to me when I was in my early 20's. I had gone on a date with a friend of a friend. I drank way to much and he came back to my apartment. He ended up raping me and I never told anyone. After that night there were times we were at the same parties and get togethers and I was always friendly (though very aware to never be alone) with him. I was embarrassed and mad at myself and absolutely blamed myself for being stupid. Last night was the first time I ever said out loud that I had been raped. I was super naive and trusting back then so I can absolutely understand what those women went through. I'm so so sorry for what you went through and how long you had to live with it being around him in your life, even if on the perimeter. I hope your dh responded in the way you needed. {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}
