Spin off the thread about the young lady who is missing.
Long distance driving.
What the furthest distance you driven alone? If you were enroute somewhere with someone, and for whatever reason they could not continue on, would you continue to the destination alone?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Until I was 53, the furthest I'd driven alone was 60 miles each way, there & back, as well completing the errands I was there to do, all in a few hours time span. When I was 53, I went on a road trip alone....several hundred miles road trip to the beach/coast. I stayed on the main freeways, and did not venture off on any side road/back roads short cuts. I also wrote down directions, "take freeway 1 to freeway 2 north, to freeway 3 west, etc..." just in case my phone map lost signal.
I am confident I could do a cross country(and back, if necessary) if I had to. It would take me longer though, because I would not be comfortable in driving alone at night in "unknown to me" places. I would wrap up the day >> find a room, unload the car, have dinner, etc... well before dark.

300 miles, it took about six hours when I was 23. From where I lived at the time, to my hometown for a bridal shower, and back. It was freeway driving the entire way, and I stayed with my mom...

Total mileage of the trip? About 2500 miles in the western US. DS was with me, but he was 10, so not an asset for driving I could do any distance of road trip on my own without hesitation

Does it count if I’m the only adult with my kids?
I haven’t driven anywhere far alone, but I’ve done 11-13 hr trips as the only adult. Driving firm Dallas to Denver tomorrow.

2300 miles from Montana to Massachusetts. I love to drive, though.

At 20, I had a summer job 6 hours away. I drove back and forth several times alone.
This summer, DH and I drove from NY to TX together. Then I drove MIL from TX to CT while DH followed us. We got split up in NYC coming off the George Washington Bridge and I drove the rest of the way alone. Well, with MIL but she wasn't driving.

About 950 miles, from Louisiana to NC, took about 15 hours, in one day, because of all of the construction and Atlanta traffic . I was alone on the road and the only stops I made was bathroom which I tried to keep to a minimum by not drinking much. I refused to eat because I didn’t want to take the chance of getting sleepy. I turned the music on an sang the entire way. As long as I sing, I’m awake.
The trip was made due to a pending death. A family member was on hospice and the end was very near.

When I was 19-22, I had to drive from Los Ángeles to San Francisco every summer to help my brother move out of dorms/rented houses. I was a super inexperienced driver and I can’t believe now that my parents let me do that.

I’m racking my brain - I don’t think I’ve done any super long drives by myself.
I just drove back from Bend, OR and it was 8 hours. I think 8 hours is the longest (multiple times to So Cal and Oregon) — I went to school on other side of country but I flew. And I’ve never done a cross country move. I’ve done a lot of road trips (even across the country) but always with people.
My 20yo niece lives in Orange County but goes to school in Boulder and she routinely does that drive by herself.

By myself, probably 600-700 miles alone. Do it in one day.

Oh, I also drove to college one year (from Seattle to south of Minneapolis). It’s about 1700 miles, so less mileage than my other trip, but that was spread over a week and this was just 3 days/2 nights.

I've made a couple of trips that were about 6 hours each way from home. Many trips 3-5 hours each way. I could do further, I'd just rather not. The older I get, the less I enjoy a long road trip.

I agree that 8 hours is about 3 more than the max I can handle now. Though pod casts help tremendously as does pretty scenery.

Alone 500 km. With 2 little kids, 1200 km each way for summer vacation, I think I did this 4 times. We're 70 km from the city and live in a fairly rural place so that is a trip to town not a trip alone around here.

In May I drove about 900 miles to meet my kid who was making the 1500+ mile trip home from college. They had a buddy with them until our meeting point and then we caravanned back home, so I was alone in my car for the entire 1800 mile trip. I was run off the road in rural Tennessee on that trip. Astonishingly, the guy who did it actually stopped and acknowledged he was completely at fault. My car seemed ok, but on the return trip we noticed my front bumper was falling off. The kid and I used zip ties and duct tape to manage until we could get it checked out and make it back home. I was glad to have someone else around then!
When I was 18 I made the 10-hour drive to college by myself. It was the first time I had ever traveled anywhere alone, or really driven outside of my hometown. Definitely not in a big city, which I had to cross on my journey.
I generally don't mind driving and do it a lot by myself, often in rural areas for work.

Furthest trip I've been on the road for is cross country. Coast to coast. Furthest I've personally driven is 100 miles. I don't like driving but I love road trips.

Last month I drove from Vancouver BC to San Diego (1400 miles/2250 km) by myself.
I've done it numerous times before with just the kids and/or DH and we change up the route to explore on the way. This time I stayed on the 5.
Driving north DD(24) was with me and did most of the driving by choice.

In my 30s, I did a couple road trips by myself that each totaled about 4000 miles. That was in the days before GPS and navigation systems.

In my early 20s I drove about 600 miles from MA to VA alone for a short vacation. I had only been driving for a couple of years at the time.
I drove about 675 miles with my kids when they were young, from MA to Nova Scotia.

-3-1/2 hours round trip alone (in 1 day). -9-10 hours one way (and then back again), just me and then-13 year old ds and several other times with all 3 of us. -15 hours one way (and then back again) with all 3 of us. That distance will never be driven again!
I do nearly all of the driving due to some hellacious car-sickness.

For most of my adult life I have driven the 300 miles to my mother's home alone. I do that 3 times per year, at least.
I was in the car alone, but following another vehicle and drove from Dallas to Columbia, S.C. Then, 2 years later, did the same thing, only had a 30 day old infant in the bassinet in the front seat with me.
I have driven the entire trip from Dallas to Ottawa several times. I had someone in the car with me but I did all the driving.
I like road trips and driving.

In college, I regularly drove about 400 miles each way to come home on the weekends. Was through lots of small Texas towns, often late at night and I was comfortable with that…but my parents and boyfriend (now DH) weren’t. I love driving, and enjoyed my solo trips. As an adult, the longest I’ve driven alone has been about 700 miles one way, from Springfield to the San Antonio area. I was definitely more aware, but again enjoyed myself. Would have enjoyed myself more if I wasn’t old and in pain

I’ve made the trip from Washington to Utah several times with just my kids. I’m not sure how many miles it is? 700-800? It takes a full day.

Back when dh was in the army, he was at AIT over Thanksgiving. He could leave base for a night but couldn't leave town. I drove by myself from Michigan to Maryland in 12 hours. Got there right at the evening formation and managed to park across the street from where he was. Poor guy. He saw my car drive by and then saw me sitting on the hood, waiting for him. Dismissal was taking forever! I was 23.
Before that, it was 3-4 hours at most.
After that, I think the longest was 8 hours. I would've gone longer but after two kids, I didn't have stamina I had 5 years prior. I stopped for the night knowing I had at least 5 more hours to go.
I can do 10 hours easily IF it's a shared driving.

2300 miles (3700 km), multiple times. But, I mentioned that in the other thread.
That was before cell phones or satellite radio, so I would buy books on cassette tape (and then CDs when CDs came out) and play them in the car while driving. Unabridged books that were over 12 hours long were what I looked for. I also loved the complete symphonic recording of Les Miserables when that came out, because that was a full 3-hours that I could sing along to.
eta: I would spend 2 nights in hotels + 1 night with my friends in Omaha in each direction.

I hate driving, and the longest I've driven in one go is 4 hours, which is about 350km. Once it gets past 3 hours or so, I start feeling really drowsy. I did actually fall asleep behind the wheel of the car once, many years ago. I could have very easily killed my friend and I, not to mention other innocent people in another car, had a car been coming the other way. That's one of the reasons I hate driving long distances. I just asked DSO what's the longest he has driven in one trip. He said when he drove from one side of the country to the other, from Perth to Melbourne (stopping once halfway overnight, somewhere in South Australia). That's a total of 36 hours driving time (not including the overnight stop) and over 3,400km. No freaking way could I do that! For US peas, that's a bit further than Los Angeles CA to Jacksonville FL. DSO just said "Why do you sometimes ask me stupid random questions?" I told him if I'm ever sitting here typing away on my laptop, then ask you a question, it's because I'm responding to a thread on Two Peas!
