I'm just curious because my friend is posting pics of all of his author signed books on instagram. Some of the comments are funny, some just a signature.
Then I got an email from a bookstore with a list of signed books you could buy.
I have books that have inscriptions in them from when they were given as a gift, signed by family members. But I don't have any author signed books. Do you? What do they say? What's your favorite?

Most of mine are books signed by the artist at Comic Con. I don’t have signed fiction or non-fiction books.

I have a couple. One is a picture book Sparky’s Rainbow Repair that was signed by the author/illustrator Max Haynes when he visited my illustration class in art school. The most recent is a book called The Cookie Companion that Georgeann Bell (a/k/a Lilaloa) signed for me at CookieCon last year.

I have several, most with just signatures.
My favorite is my signed copy of David Sedaris’ “Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk”. We waited in line after one of his shows to meet him. He wrote “To Jan—you are like a friend to me—David Sedaris”. I remember our kids were little at the time and he asked us what they were up to that evening. We explained they were staying with their grandparents and going to Red Robin for dinner. He had never heard of Red Robin and it made me feel very provincial. Lol.

Michael Symon (Live to Cook) Garth Stein (Art of Racing in the rain) Tim LaHaye and Jerry B Jenkins (Left Behind series) Ruth Cook (North Across the River & Guest Behind the River) Jake Reuse (The Road to Georgia)
I have a few others but I cant remember them at the moment
(Some of them I maybe related to, but they are still signed)
My favorite is Garth Stein, because that book means so much to me in so many ways and it was such a joy to meet Garth before the movie was even released.

I have one author-signed book: The Persian Pickle Club, by Sandra Dallas. It was set in Wabaunsee County, Kansas, where I grew up.
I have one book that has a signed bookplate: Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. It spent something like three years on the hardcover best seller list and was made into a movie. The book was MUCH better.

Yes, tons.
In the before times we loved going to book lectures to meet authors, hear them speak, and get our books signed.
I don’t buy signed books, it only means something if you actually meet the person.
We’ve met Margaret Atwood, John Grisham, Kate DiCamilo, and many others.

Many! DD has several children's books that are signed, mostly from authors who visited the school Book Fair. Her most prized though is one signed by Eric Carle. He had a signing at a local independent bookstore (long gone ) when she was about 7. I've kept them all separate from the others so they don't accidentally get donated or given away. I have a book signed by David Attenborough from the 80's when he had a signing in San Francisco. Also cookbooks by Paul Prudhomme, Giada Dd Laurentiis, Paula Deen. There are several more from visiting authors for a group I used to belong to. Then I have some quilting books that are signed by authors. We've always been big on books.

My husband has a copy of The Nasty Bits signed by Anthony Bourdain 🥲 He was going on a work trip to NYC and the book was the “invitation” everyone received. There is a personal message written as well.
I have several miscellaneous books signed by the authors, as well as an art book with a message from the artist (a very prominent Canadian artist who was a family friend).

His wife is also an author and I have her books signed also.
I also have a book signed by both Wayne and Walter Gretzky. They happened to be signing books at a hockey tournament my ds played at.

I only have two. The first is signed by the children's author Zilpha Keatly Snyder. I read all her books in elementary school and I totally nerded out meeting her and getting my book signed. She wrote a few Newbury award books like The Witches of Worm, The Egypt Game and Headless Cupid. My book is the Velvet Room which is my absolute favorite about an Okie family who moves to California during the dust bowl.
As an adult I only have Rain of Gold signed by Victor Villasenor. I heard him speak in Santa Barbara.
I waited in line once for Julia Child but I gave up, I didn't feel like waiting that long and gave up.
I just realized all my book signings are from California authors.

I have several children's books by Natalie Savage Carlson. All with personal messages - one or two to me, one to my sister (she didn't want the book when grown so I got it), one to my DS, and several to my mum. Her daughter was my mum's best friend ever since college.
I have a couple of other children's books with just signatures from authors visiting the kids' schools etc...

Just one by Eric Clarke and several of Mo Willems. Most authors I like are long dead, so I don't have any adult books signed.

I have quite a few, but not necessarily because I met the author and had them sign it personally.
Many authors on book tours pass through my local bookstore and there must be an agreement to sign a specific number of books as part of the contract in addition to meeting fans and signing in person. If there are leftovers after their intended destination (I'm thinking internet orders) they put a "Signed" sticker on the cover and sell them at regular price afterwards. I figure, if I'm going to buy the book anyway, why not buy the signed edition? I'm also in one of their book clubs and all of the books arrive signed.
The one author I did meet personally and chat with was Ray Bradbury. I had a nice hardcover copy of "The Halloween Tree" and told him it scared the heck out of me as a kid. He drew me a scary jack o'lantern.

I have a couple. They were all from author speaking events I’ve been to.
Stephen King David Sedaris Salman Rushdie Busy Phillips Colton Whitehead Joy Harjo John Green Alice Hoffman
A local bookstore is amazing at getting multiple speakers every month. They kept it going through the entire pandemic with virtual events.

Yes! I have two from my Outlander collection signed by Diana Gabaldon. She regularly speaks at our local Highland Games and does a book signing as well.
I also have two signed cookbooks - one by Duff Goldman and one from Anna Olsen, a Canadian pastry chef.

I have a book signed by Charlaine Harris (True Blood). She did an event in my area, and I waited hours,, but it was worth it. She talked to everyone there and answered questions too. I really enjoyed it.

Two books... One signed by Melissa Gilbert and a couple of cookbooks from Pioneer Woman. That's it.. Signed books really don't interest me much. Melissa Gilbert signed her book when we met her after she was doing a Broadway show (Little House). Otherwise, PW would be the only ones.
I do remember another one, but it is really one of my kid's books.. The Fault in the Stars which was just purchased signed (I can't remember the author off the top of my head)

I have literally just taken delivery of a signed copy of The Apollo Murders, the first book by the astronaut Chris Hadfield. There is little chance of us meeting him and DS2 will think it's a cool gift even if it wasn't signed in front of him.
When DS2 was in a stroller I took a load of kids to a store to meet and get annuals signed by Darth Vader. Not the most notable of authors but the kids enjoyed it.

I have lost count. I used to go to lectures by the authors and then get them signed. Almost all of them are children's books. One year I got in on Louis Sachar's talk. There were about 30 of us in a small room. I'd read his Sideways Stories to my classes for years and he began to talk and explain how he was a yard teacher in college for credit. Then he whipped out some papers and said he had a new book coming out and did we want to hear the beginning of it. You could hear a pin drop. When he stopped everyone yelled for more. He read another chapter. The book was Holes. They made it into a movie, but the book was oh, so much better. Probably my favorite author experience.

I was completely and utterly in love with Isaac Marion when Warm Bodies was released in 2010 and have multiple signed editions.. along with his self published stuff a few years later.
I think all of my John and Hank Green books are signed too. I know I have multiple signed copies of a few things because I was looking for specific doodles in the bookplates and whenever I would come across one I'd buy it.

We have several children's books that have been signed. No messages, just signatures. My mom worked in a bookstore and would always get my kids a copy if they had an author signing.
My favorite is Patricia Polacco. She lived locally and writes about the area so it was always fun for my kids to "see" what she was writing about. She was very involved in the community with readings, etc.

All of my Diana Butler Bass books are signed by her because she lives not far from me, so I've always gone to her book releases and lectures.
