I know many people have traveled internationally, but I am more asking timing wise for purchasing tickets and such.
I am thinking of traveling from the US to Europe, mainly France, Italy and Germany fall of this year. I did a quick look at tickets prices and they were less than I expected. I just do not know the best times to purchase airline tickets.
Also, am hesitant because we really do not know what may be impacted in the future COVID wise and such. Money wise if there is ever a time to plan this it is now, but there are a lot of other factors that we cannot control.
Plus, I haven't shared this idea with DH yet, so we will see what his response is.
I bumped this to hear about any travel updates and some great vacation stories

I am sticking to domestic travel for now because of the combined uncertainty of COVID and global conflict. I would consider making plans if I knew they were fully refundable.

I would be hesitant to purchase anything for travel to Europe right now because of the situation in Ukraine. I know you are thinking fall, but I still wouldn't put any money down right now. Maybe I would book the hotel, if they don't require prepayment.

I wouldn’t. It feels too risky at this point.

We were going to start planning Paris and Spain in September- but for lots of reasons we put that on hold. I haven’t travelled internationally since just before the pandemic. I still have a lot to see in our country too. So that’s a positive.

Forget COVID, it's the Ukraine situation that would prevent me from even considering travel anywhere near Europe at this point in time.
We're thinking about travelling this year, but we will be sticking to SE Asia - either Vietnam, Thailand, or Bali.

We are hoping to in July. . My son has a credit from a European soccer camp that he was supposed to attend in 2020. However he has a soccer teammate from Germany and the dad was telling me that he spoke to his sister who lives in Germany and she is truly afraid right now. He said she is not one to over react. Anyway, we will wait a bit to see.

We are sticking to domestic travel for now. Part of the issue for us is the requirement to test before returning to the US. We aren't willing to be stuck in another country for a quarantine - at a hotel most likely not of our choosing. The other thing holding me back from Europe right now is the Ukraine situation.
If you decide to pursue a trip, make sure that everything you book (airline tickets, hotel) is either refundable or can be insured for cancellation. If it can't be insured/refunded, then you need to be willing to walk away from that money if things go further South. Only you know what your pain point is.

I have had to postpone my trip to Iceland for the last 2 years. I am going at the end of the month. I'm flying from CA to there so I won't be flying over anything other than the US and the ocean. Unless things drastically escalate between now and then, I'm not cancelling it a third time.

I would not.. also not cuz of covid but Ukraine.. nope...
I just worry about what happens when Russia finally topples Ukraine.. is that where they stop?? Will the keep trying to take over 1 more country at a time??
Not to highjack the thread...

I’ve been tossing around the idea of a trip to London in October with my kids. I want to see what happens with Russia before I commit.

The only international travel I'm planning this year is to Canada.
DH wants to go to Greece this summer but we are holding back for now.

Personally I wouldn't, not as an ordinary citizen traveling. The covid testing requirements, and uncertainty about covid in general. But even more because of Ukraine. If a private citizen gets stuck somewhere it's on you to pay for everything while you're stuck.
My dh is most likely going to start traveling for work again, most likely in April. His first trip is to the Netherlands. But the State Department takes care of the covid tests that are required in both directions, and if anything happened to strand him there State takes care of it. That won't keep me from worrying but at least I know he's being taken care of.

I'm traveling in May.. just gonna do it... I'm going on a cruise and hitting a few islands... It was an offer I couldn't refuse. So... I am just not going to worry about it and enjoy it. (As always, will be careful as much as possible....)

We traveled to Aruba less than a year ago and had no issues. We made sure we stayed at a hotel with Covid testing (Holiday Inn Aruba) and had a great time. If hubby had more time off of work we would go again this May!
Honestly we had a harder time and trip last week going to Disney World with flight and hotel issues than we had going to Aruba!

I just returned from a trip to Iceland. Life is short and while I will be cautious, I won’t be paranoid.

To Europe, definitely not. We have a trip booked to Walt Disney World, Universal and cruising in September but will be cancelling this. We just can't afford to get stuck overseas if we get Covid because of dogs in kennels and kids University and school. We are rebooking for December 2023.

Dd3 is going to Iceland in October (was booked before the Ukraine situation) and dd1 just booked France for July yesterday. I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it but obviously they have different comfort levels!

We did Iceland last summer and a Caribbean cruise in December. But mostly we did road trips, US trips the last two years, drove to Niagara Falls but some US National Parks. We have booked an Alaska cruise this summer out of Vancouver. The covid testing is different everywhere and of course Russia is a concern.

We were all ready to go to Germany in September. Paid deposits and everything. I’ve always wanted to go, as my grandfather was a first-generation American whose mother emigrated from there. We made our plans before Omicron, and when all the restrictions came out we just said, eff it. Everything is so up in the air lately and I didn’t want to get stuck somewhere. So we cancelled. Then the whole Ukraine thing started up and I’ve felt really relieved about our decision. I feel kind of sad that our retirement, and what may be the last of our really healthy and energetic years have been wiped out by all this stuff. But, first-world problems and into each life a little rain must fall. We’ll be lucky if this is the only rain that falls into ours.

We have had a Mediterranean cruise booked for quite a while and we are going ahead with it, in May, unless the cruise line cancels.

We're going to Ireland in less than 2 months. Our tour group sends us updates almost daily. We are also supposed to go to Croatia/Slovenia/Italy in September with the same tour group so we'll see what happens when it is getting closer.

We're going to the Dominican Republic in three weeks. Everything is refundable. We've been tossing around the idea of a European trip as a graduation present for DS, but with the Ukraine situation, it feels too risky. So will have to create Plan B.

Talked with DH and his only hesitancy is the Ukraine situation. Since we are looking at fall he said we can watch what happens then plan from there. We will tuck the money aside for now.
We want to visit out foreign exchange students, so thus will be a big trip.

We went to Iceland in October and in a month are traveling to Belize. Niagara Falls (Canadian side) in June. Trying to decide on a summer trip. Originally wanted Italy or Spain but may end up with England/Ireland or Alaska. Concern is more Ukraine rather than Covid at this point. I work in a school and masks are optional so we are now heading out and about as much as we can.
