Whoa I missed that! was there an explanation of why that is? I just looked it up on CNN: The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million dollars in punitive damages. The jury awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages and no money for punitive damages. Depp sought $50 million in damages and Heard sought $100 million. Punitive damages in the state of Virginia are capped at $350,000, so the judge reduced the punitive damages award to that amount. |

The winners are not clear. Maybe they both won? I know civil cases are so different from criminal. I guess I thought it would be a clear cut win or lose. I'm happy for Johnny but not sure how much of his previous stardom in movies he will regain. I would love to see him pursue his music further. He has a fantastic voice.

I found it interesting that she had a statement so soon after the verdict. Totally expected statement from her. No responsibility. Nothing but his power and how it damages the future for other DV victims.
I think the jury did a great job.

It looks like the judge reduced the punitive damages awarded to Depp. I wonder if the jury was made aware that the punitive damages had a cap. They might have increased his compensatory damages if they had known the punitive would automatically be reduced.
"Punitive damages in the state of Virginia are capped at $350,000, so the judge reduced the punitive damages award to that amount."
Heard's response to the verdict:
"The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband," Heard said.
"I'm even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women," she continued. "It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously."

The one count (2 mil) was because his lawyer overstepped. Next they’ll likely appeal, which is drama free, no jury, just going over the case to check if the judge or jury made mistakes, and mainly done to come to a $$ settlement agreement. Because it’s civil, not criminal. |
